I just switched from Dps to Tanking and would like to know what gems are best for the following gear. Before putting this gear on my health is at 23731. Currently I have the following.

[Tempered Titansteel Helm]

[Girdle of the Pallid Knight]

[Legguards of Abandoned Fealty]

[Breastplate of the Imperial Joust]

Kinda vague, but I'll try to help you out. As you're starting out, Stam is what you want, after becoming uncritable (getting 540 defense, or close to that with some resilience).

Firstly, get to 540 Defense (you can skimp on this somewhat with Arena items & the Arena enchant, the latter is apparently used by quite a few tanks, and costs 10k honour, a real bargain). So, if you don't have the 540, try to get defense gems. The Thick cut is pure defense, Enduring is the Stam/Defense cut, Resolute is your Expertise/Defense cut (Yellow, Yellow/Blue, and Yellow/Red respectively), but really, you shouldn't need to gem too much for defense, as long as you've got the badges, and you've farmed ToC a lot (normal and heroic). Really, most gemming will probably be for stam, expertise/stam, and hit or avoidance and stam. There's some decent information about gemming in The EJ DK FAQ, so take a look in there, and check the gear list that Jhneoh created on the previous page for some excellent gearing choices.

Only while the Brewfest is up, Coren drops two different 170 stamina trinkets (that can be stacked) as well as the badge 84 dodge + dodge clickie trinket.

DK - Ashbane Failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.

I didn't see this mentioned in the thread but [Silver-Plated Battlechest] from the quest Junk in My Trunk in Utgarde Pinnacle.

For the life of me I can't remember if it is from Heroic or not, but from what I looked up players have solo-ed it to get the quest items (Thottbot > Comments > Quests > Junk in My Trunk [13131] > Re: Jun... - Thottbot: World of Warcraft) so shouldn't be too bad to get your hands on. Plus the +74 def and the +22 def chest enchant really helps those trying to reach the def cap.

Hello, the MT of a guild I was in a while back directed me to a very useful website that I used when gearing up my dk to tank instances. Forgive me if this has already been posted, I kept an eye out for it but did not see it.

Kaliban's Class Loot Lists: Death Knight

It will have you choose what you are looking for so in this case, you'd click on 'show only tanking gear' and it automatically filters what items you should be looking for level 70+.

This helped me tremendously when I leveled knowing which instances I should try and farm and which ones I've already farmed the hell out of, which I didn't need, etc. - even has a tab for heroics, quick synopsis of each boss fight, map, glyphs, and faction/reputation items.

And of course this website is also very useful for other classes as well. The only drawback that I saw was that it did not list items to get if they were crafted but I think the pros outweight the cons.

just a quickie...

the two trinkets listed in the 3.2 post above OR two of the 170sta trinkets? The sta trinkets give an enormous boost to hp pool is this better or worse then the like 1% dodge from medal?

In terms of overall survival/EH the two tankards are a better bet, imo. Using overall settings on RAWR, the only thing available outside of Heart of Iron and ToC25 trinkets that place above the tankards is Black Heart and that's also very easily accessible. Honestly, I don't remember how the triumph badge trinket ranked.

That doesn't mean it's not useful to keep a dodge use trinket available, though.

Something to note about the Rawr values is that some of the procs haven't been modeled correctly. And for the upcoming 2.2.24 (23 was released today) I just made some pretty significant changes to hopefully improve the rawr TankDK values.

Also something to note: adjusting the incoming damage and/or changing the surivival weights will shift the focus from EH(Survivability) to Mitigation.

The current build may still have some pretty serious issues that I hope will be fixed w/ this new build. It may be valuable to use 21 or 22.
