As of 2.3.13, Rawr combines armor-value-increasing modifiers incorrectly, such as Toughness, Frost Presence and Austere Earthsiege meta. It seems to be combining them additively, instead of multiplicatively like the game does. For more details, see Rawr - View Issue #16902: [TankDK][2.3.13] Armor calculation incorrect. This discrepancy results in both the total armor of the character and contributions from individual items to be off compared to the game.

Rawr also has an issue when an item is refreshed from the Armory. Armory data doesn't split the total armor on an item into base armor + bonus item, but only provides a single total armor stat. Since modifiers only apply to base armor, this results in Rawr evaluating items incorrectly that were refreshed from Armory (in addition to the first issue above). To work around this, make sure you refreshe items with bonus armor only from WoWhead. (Note that the default cache, as of 2.3.13, has some incorrect item data, for example T10 i264 DK tank chest).

Thank you... I've assigned that defect to me to research. I know we've had some various tweaks so it's entirely possible that the values are off.

I'll also see about the Armory import code. Dunno if they provide the needed info to split the Armor & Bonus armor, but I'll have to look.

Rawr 2.3.14 Released:
* No Defect: Update Threat values table from in-game research and matching tankspot post.
* No Defect: Off-hands were providing value in certain cases when 2h-ers were equiped. Finally rooted out the problem.
* Defect 15770: Fix for the blood funny business in RSVs. I believe that we should finally see the RSVs settle down for the Blood tree.
* Defect 16902: Update Bonus Armor in the Armory parser. Update the way I was handling new additional armor multipliers. The stats object is correct, but just my implementation was flawed.

The fix for problematic RSVs for Blood has been a thorn in my side for a while, but I'm not seeing it anymore in my blood spec, nor in a few of the others that have written up defects, so if you see problems, please write up a defect and include your character XML so I can work on rooting it out.

Rawr 2.3.15 Released:
* No Defect: DS health restore was not contributing to mitigation, which it should be.
* Defect 16231: Additional work on the new abilities work-flow.
* No Defect: Another wave of base abilities checked in for new combattable. Still have more to do, and they aren't complete, but this gets placeholders for most of what's on the rotation UI.

I haven't heard any feedback on the Blood Spec RSVs, so I'm assuming the fix last release worked out ok.

Rawr 2.3.16 Released:
* Defect 16231: [EXPERIMENTAL] Additional work on the new abilities work-flow. Additional data available in the summary pane to support improved visability, only available when the new code is enabled. Fleshing out a number of the abilities on the rotation. Optimizer results make slightly more sense when optimizing for Talents, which is a bit disturbing since it's in-complete.
* Removed a bunch of "TODOs" that are being handled by the re-work.
* Defect 15913: Finally! Fix for Acclimation
* SortaFix for 14553: Put in some code to have some automatic adjustment of the rotation back into the schema. This helps when comparing different complete Talent Specs, but is broken when looking at individual talents on the graph.
* No Defect: Better rotation time allowing for a more accurate Threat value. Most folks will see their threat decrease to more reasonable numbers.
* No Defect: Additional work for the updated CombatTable - Initial comparison functions to allow sorting abilities by various values.
* Defect 15192: Integrated Parry haste calculations in the new combatTable code so that in-theory, Parry provides a very slight amount of threat. It's not much, but the math is there, and we're seeing additional white swings provided by the parry haste. In some situations, for really slow weapons with high avoidance rates, this is preventing RS from being capped by # of white swings.
* Fix for defect 15845: Created a switch in options for enabling/disabling onUse abilities.
* Fix for Defect 16231: The rotation viewer now knows what strikes are available via talents. This improves some bit of the talent optimizer.
* No Defect: Noticed a threading issue in threat caused by the auto-rotation bits.
* Stats cleanup - removed a stat, and properly categorized a bunch of DK stats that were all in Additive that should have been multiplicative.

Alot of fixed/changes this time. Let me know what you think.

* Fix for Defect 17837: Dual Rune of FC issue.
* No Defect: Missing part of the Fallen Crusader Rune. Adjusting special effects to better handle PPM.
* No Defect: Improved Rotation selection
* Defect 17964: There were certain talents that were showing negative at odd times. So I fixed that.
* Fix for Defect 17762: Performance issues

2.3.21:

* Performance Improvements by making 14 of 15 constantly recreated SpecialEffects into static variables
* Defect 18255: Offhand items were showing a slight gain in mitigation when parry-haste was enabled.
* Rawr3.BossHandler: Worked in the last of the options that have already been programmed into the boss handler onto the pane. What you see is what there is. If you want more options to be considered, post in the forums on the designated threads or make a feature request in the issue tracker.

2.3.22:

* Defect 18454: There was an array problem in the VB static Special effects. Everything should be sorted now.
* Defect 18507 & Partial for 18340: Had a bug in my evaluation of Abom's Might. 50% per point rather than 5% per point AP buff.
* Partial fix for 18507: BonusDamageMultiplier was not in CombatTable so certain buffs/SpecialEffects had no value.
* No Defect: Had the sign wrong on Frost Presence DamageTakenModifier.

How are you guys using the optimizer, exactly? I've been scouring Google and various posts and not really coming up with any viable results.

For example, expertise. I wanna keep a minimum of 26. Or defense - Mine is way over the cap at 570, yet it keeps suggesting I gem for it, haha.

I would like to set it up so it's following the guidelines set in the DK Tank thread (in particular "gem all stamina", or things of that nature)

I believe you're approaching the problem from the wrong direction. The idea of "Gem all stamina" or "Keep Expertise over X" is sound given a certain set of circumstances, however, it's really a means to an end. The End being: "Maximize Effective Health" (Survival in Rawr terms) or "Ensure the target can't Dodge." So if you are looking for those goals, keep those as requirements into the optimizer.

For the first option: Instead of Going for "Overall" set primary valuation as "Survival"
Next, you'll still want to ensure that "Chance to be Crit" <= 0 so that you stay above def cap
Finally, for your expertise requirement set "Target Dodge %" <= 0.

This will get it so it meets your requirements, however, it is not always the best option. The optimizer is setup so that it generally provides the pest overall value. Something like Chance to be Crit <= 0 is a good addition as well. So if it's suggesting alternative gems, there may be a reason. EG you meta may require a gem of a different color than Blue. Or the socket bonus may be worth socketting with a gem to help achieve the bonus. Not every socket bonus will fit this criteria, but there are those that will.

So in summary, try to think at the over-all picture, not just the "EJ says to gem stam so I want Rawr to tell me to put solids in every slot," mentality. You need to balance Mitigation with Effective Health with Threat. The tank models in Rawr attempt to do that given the fight conditions provided. If you have any specific examples or concerns, please write up a defect at: http://rawr.codeplex.com/WorkItem/Create

The problem here is, your model isn't perfect either (although it'd be a much more interesting game if it was). Stam is the major thing we want, with pallies sometimes getting Stam/Defense and rarely Stam/Dodge, bears sometimes swapping full stam (which scales exceptionally well for them) with agi/stam (not enough experience to comment on the warrior module, and the dk module doesn't seem to like defense :/). And beyond some hit or expertise when low on either, we don't need much. I do hope Rmsx takes your advice, though.

Another problem is the general ways in which we have to test this, basically, we don't have encounter models in Rawr (can't see how long we can survive against Steelbreaker's Fusion Punch, if it isn't dispelled quickly, as a defunct, if simple example). Another problem is that there is no general robust 'tank' module, with partitions and changes based on paladins, bears, dks, and warriors; So while the bear tanking module is great, the dk one isn't. :/

I agree that TankDK isn't perfect, but I'd like to think it provides pretty solid recommendations. Much of the core ideals are paralleled among the different tanking models. Re boss models: We do have Boss Handlers that you can see starting to flesh out in Rawr3. I haven't had a chance to plug the TankDK to it yet on Rawr 3, and not all the bosses are fleshed out yet either. Many things on the Todo list still for Rawr 3.

2.3.23:

* Defect 18638: Provide optimizer options for Resilience and Spell Pen. Also provide UI element for Resistances.
* Update to handle 1-h Triggers (CurrentHandHit, MainHandHit, OffHandHit) It's not perfect, it's in there.
* Partial 18340: Update Haste math and GCD calcs in the Shotrotation.
* Rawr3: Added a new flag for comparisons to show Partially Equipped, like Talents where you have points in it less than Max or You selected a Buff like Trueshot Aura and we can show that it conflicts with Unleashed Rage and Abomination's Might
* Rawr3: Added a new Chart comparing Talents from Max against Zero (most people put all the points into the talent, not just one or two, so now you can see what the full talent's value is)

RAWR crashing constantly now

Not really sure what started it, but I'm guessing it was when I moved 3 points into spell deflection as thats when the problems first started. I have deleted the saved xml profile and redownloaded my character from the armory and resaved as a new spec profile only to get the same result, that being when I try and switch gear, enchants around for comparison, rawr will crash. System is win 7 64 bit ultimate and characters name is Daxbender of Korgath realm. I should be in my tank spec for some time to come and I would appreciate if anyone could download my character to their rawr and see if they can replicate the issues I am having. It doesn't happen on every item/enchant switch, but it does happen eventually. Thanks in advance.

Another thing I'm slightly confused on... I have the 4pc T10 tanking set. The shoulders are the i251 piece, and I have the Gunship 264 tank shoulders as well.

Rawr is recommending, or overall, that I drop the t10 shoulders and use the gunship ones, breaking the 4pc bonus. Is that right?

I know in the past some of the tier bonuses have been kinda "Eh", so that could be the case here. Just kinda peculiar is all.

i get the same problem. i notice on my windows sidebar that my cpu usage goes up to 90-100 % and Rawr freezes. i usually have to restart the program or completely stop using it, in hope that given some time it will work properly again. i havent been able to figure out whats wrong though, if anyone has any information, please do tell, its really annoying and slow when i need to check upgrade real fast

Heya, this is the same Shazear as above. My old e-mail isn't working anymore, so can't get my password sent to me. So let me see about getting to the bottom of this crash. I haven't noticed anything along these lines in my working on the model either in Rawr2 or Rawr4.

If you would please open a defect on Rawr - Issue Tracker and include your character .xml file(s). While most of my time right now is focused on getting the cata changes in Rawr4.

It does seem undervalued. It is a good bonus, unfortunately, the numbers make it look weak. I use it all the time while workin' on HMs. I am looking at a way to better show how these kind of CDs can mitigate the burstiness of a fight.

With the patch coming this month and that talent being removed from the dk's talent lineup, theres no point in your wasting any time on it. Stay focused on Cata and I'm sure we'll all be very happy with the new release.
