I did yesterday a overhaul from my UI, and I also wanted to start to use some macros for Dot-ing. By doing this I got to the Moonfire/Sunfire problem, googled a lot, but didn't find a solution to my problem:

I want to assign a focus-target and want to cast my 2 dots on this focus-target. With Insect Swarm there is no prob, but I don't get moonfire working. If I do "/cast [target=focus] Moonfire", there is the "Spell is not learned" in Nature Eclipse. And if I use the common "/click ActionbuttonXYZ" I cannot assign it to [target=focus] ("/click [target=focus] ActionbuttonXYZ" -> the Dot is still landing on my current target, and not on the focus target)

So that's my question. I am really new with macroing, and I also found nothing about this problem on google/wowwiki etc. Is there a way to get the macroed Moonfire assigned to the focus target? And if it's not possible, a simple "there is no way to do it for now" would save some trouble for me.

Thanks

Another way of doing it is using the focus modifier key option, and simply holding that button down while using your normal buttons. It has other advantages too, such as being able to quickly throw a wrath or starfire on your focus as well. Imagine that you are doing Valiona & Theralion, and have the airborne dragon as your focus. If you don't have another source of the spell damage debuff, you probably want to throw the occasional wrath or starfire on your focus to keep up Earth and Moon.

I've set it up with the ALT key, but you can choose between several different buttons.

2: insect swarm
ALT+2: insect swarm on focus
3: moonfire/sunfire
ALT+3: moonfire/sunfire on focus
R: wrath
ALT+R: wrath on focus.

Here's a picture of the relevant part of my ui: http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/7517/timers2.jpg

The big frame is my target, and the small one my focus target. The timers (using NeedToKnow) above the big one is for my target, and the ones over my focus frame is obviously tracking my focus.

When entering an Eclipse state it doesn't matter if you put up Eclipse buffed DoTs right away, just so long as you do it some time during the buff.
I would just like to add that it's best to hit moonfire just before entering a solar eclipse and then sunfire just after you enter the solar eclipse as doing so leaves both DoTs on the target.

This is not true at all. Sunfire and Moonfire overwrite each other, and will just clip if you cast one after the other.

There's actually one interesting little issue here. Because Sunfire and Moonfire are different debuffs, when you overwrite one with the other, you don't get the benefit of a Cataclysm-style DoT refresh. i.e., the new DoT clips the old one and you lose a remaining tick, just like in the old days.

Do people use anything to keep track of the mushrooms they've put down? I was running into an issue tonight on Cho'gall where I'd put down three mushrooms for the upcoming Blood of the Old God during the Corrupting Adherents phase, then I'd get back into place, the Bloods would spawn, I'd pop my mushrooms and....nothing would happen. I'm assuming something destroyed them in the meantime, a corrupting crash maybe? I wasn't even aware that mushrooms could be killed like that, but I know I placed them, I know where I placed them, I know the mobs were over them, and yet popping them definitely fizzled. Maybe something else happened that I'm not thinking of?

So is there any good way to know whether/how many mushrooms I currently have placed? I generally try to keep an eye on them visually, but there are enough effects and mobs on Cho'gall that I sometimes can't.

At Cho'gall it's very easy to run into range issues while exploding your shrooms depending on where you tank Cho'gall and where you kill the adds at. Personally I use nibPointDisplay to keep track of my shrooms. It does have one issue though, or more of an annoyance than an issue in that it doesn't remove the points until the shrooms actually die, which is a second or two later than they actually explode so I end up tapping he explosion key more than needed.

A little experimentation today with /framestack and I got a handle on the frame name. It is TotemFrameTotem and is essentially the same frame Shaman use for totems attached to their player frame.

So steps to make it visible:

Download MoveAnything mod and install. Disable your unit frame mod temporarily.
Cast WM to see your Mushrooms.
Type in /move to enable MoveAnything mod and type in "totem" in search field
Select the mover for Shaman Totem Timers and move the frame with your 3 mushrooms wherever you want it.
Deselect mover when done.
Log out and re-enable your unit frame mod.
Wa-la and done.

I just find this useful to ensure that all 3 Mushrooms did in fact get planted before hitting Detonate and it's been bothering me not having the view. Hopefully this helps anyone else this has been bothering.
That might help?

I use the default Totems frame as described in that post. I just put it near my spell timers.

I have noticed that something kills them at Cho'gall, but I'm not sure exactly what. Maybe just Bloods meleeing them with their random targeting. I just drop them right beforehand now. The usual plan is final Starfire on Cho'gall to proc Solar and Astral, then spin around, plant 3 Mushrooms just in front of the Blood pile and blow them.

Usually to check whether Mushrooms actually blew I just look at the cooldown on WM (or at MSBT).

I have a power aura to keep track of my mushrooms being down and when the detonate is off cooldown.

I've been having a issue with using Starfall effectively ever since getting 4t11. After 3xSF to abuse the buff, I try to prolong Lunar while it's up by placing mushrooms, dropping trees and doing whatever else I can to elongate the Eclipse phase. The trouble is that after the first Starfall (I usually head to Lunar first on most fights) the CD very rarely lines up again with Lunar Eclipse. Is it best to use on CD, is there an accepted delay period to get the Eclipse buff on Starfall?

Using SF/IS/MF primes SFall/Focus/Rebirth major, I don't think SS is optimal since you delay the cast so often.

You just have to use your judgment. Trying to get Starfall during Lunar when possible is one of the things you take into account when sequencing your spells. Don't obsess over it; Starfall is less than 4% of your damage on a single target when not using GoSS.

There a bunch of fights where GoSS is good. Most things where there are multiple targets, or where you aren't on one target long enough to use GoSF effectively.
