[Resto] 4.3 Gear Discusson (Dragon Soul)

This is a list of the available gear for 4.3, including new quest items. This is not a BiS list, this is literally everything we can equip. For stat weightings, please read the first post of the Restoration guide by Hamlet: http://elitistjerks.com/f73/t110354-...3_dragon_soul/.

As a forum we will not be doing a formalized BiS list. Discussions can definitely happen, with critique of gear selections for each other. However, BiS are generally useless for a few reasons:
  • Most people don't have access to absolute BiS because they won't be doing (all of) the heroic modes
  • BiS lists are great for Orgrimmar & Ironforge, but are essentially useless for progress -- which is when your gear matters most.
I'm sure some folks will list what they're aiming for though, and then there will be discussions that follow. So, if you're looking for a BiS - READ THROUGH THE THREAD.

The 4.2 gear list can be found here: http://elitistjerks.com/f73/t124011-...4_2_firelands/

Primarily most of the conversation will likely be Resto Druids trying to maximize secondary stats due to haste-capping. So if you're a balance druid odds are you won't find much of this thread useful beyond the first post.

Okay, here is the mostly finished product. I'll get to weapons over the weekend since it's a pretty monstrous list. I purposefully included the unimplemented gear so we don't end up with "Where do I get X?" when X doesn't even exist. If you want additional trinkets added, please PM me. If you find that I linked something incorrectly (if I didn't I'd be shocked), please PM me.

Same rules apply as the previous iteration. Do not ask "WHAT IS BIS?" unless you'd like an automatic 72 hour ban.

When looking at the trinket "Seal of Seven Signs" is there any haste breakpoint we should get (other than 2005) that would give us another tick of Wildgrowth or swiftmend with the proc of 2904 Haste and/or Nature's Grace stacked.

I picked it up Tuesday and want to use it as optimaly as possible.

"[Deep Earth Gloves] - 397 | Valor Vendor (1250) - Hit + Haste, 1 yellow socket" is listed as a ring.

Assuming you are sitting at 2005 right now, it'll take you past the following breakpoints (assuming 5% raid haste buff):

13th, 14th and 15th ticks of LB.
10th tick of WG/Efflo.
6th tick of Rejuv.

Beyond that, you'd need another 577 haste to get another breakpoint (5th tick of Regrowth at 5486).

jula 12/01/11 5:12 AM

Assuming 2005 haste, 2904 Haste proc gives these extra hot ticks while active:
3 extra lifebloom ticks
1 extra WG & efflorescence tick
1 extra tranq hot tick
1 extra rejuv tick

add 584 haste (2589 rating) and get another WG & efflorescence tick.

The problem is that a 20 second uncontrollable proc with a 100sec ICD is not going to be very reliable unless almost every boss has large damage events starting at 2/4/6 mins.
SoW was great because you could time it and maximize the gains (which if you keep the the WG glyph is almost halved in potential) on AoE with only a short cooldown between them which really made the haste an incredible boost at times where it was most useful.

Tecton 12/01/11 7:23 AM

Yeah, I came to much the same conclusion after getting it last night. I'll probably use it on something like Ultraxion where the proc is unlikely to be wasted, but it's pretty niche other than that.

Sprucelee 12/01/11 9:55 AM

The other options are not really that impressive either, honestly I only see using windward, which has a proc. that can be wasted as well.

Because of the "passive intellect only" restriction for the list of trinkets, [Will of Unbinding] is unlisted. However, it is definitely worth discussing whether, combined with 3/3 Genesis and 3/3 Moonglow, 990 Int (880 on normal, 780 on LFR) is enough to warrant us using 1 GCD and 8% of base mana every X seconds.

The initial issue to consider is whether [Will of Unbinding] builds/refreshes automatically from DoTs. As I never got my hands on one during the PTR, I can't confirm it, but if it works like [Necromantic Focus], it will. Assuming it works like the Focus, this would mean applying IS once every 28 seconds (18s duration of IS + 10s duration on the trinket). If it doesn't work like the Focus, a forced application every 10s will likely make it unusable by resto druids.

The second issue to consider is the throughput gain. There are actually two sub-issues to consider in this determination. First, 990/880/780 Int is far greater than 517/458/408 Int (the next closest passive Int trinket), but [Will of Unbinding] does not include a Haste or Heal proc effect. As one who always values consistency and predictability from my trinkets, I'd personally lean toward the uniform application of benefit from [Will of Unbinding] over the uncontrollable proc effects of the others. Second, one has to subtract the loss of 1 GCD every 28s in relation to the HPS benefit. I actually have no idea how to model this, as that extra Rejuv you could throw in is unlikely to be 100% effective.

The final issue to consider is the mana loss. 8% of base mana (reduced by talents) every 28s is certainly something that will negatively impact our pool, but the question is whether it unreasonably does so.

The above should serve as a focus to the discussion of the trinket for resto purposes.

Carebare 12/01/11 6:35 PM

I'm fine with adding the other trinkets. I guess I wasn't clear about that. It's more that it took me about 3 hours to put this together and for the sake of my own sanity I stuck to passive intellect. If you PM me a trinket that you think needs to be there, I'll add it. (I'll add Will of Unbinding this weekend when I do weapons.)

World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis

If anyone is interested in a 10 man log with the new chance to heal raid member trinket. Pretty solid % considering how skewed my healing breakdown is with Yseras buff.

EDIT: Also, tested the mace off of deathwing Maw of the Dragonlord in lfr 25 lastnight and on Zon'ozz it came out as 7.7% of my healing being assigned to the melee group. The cap on targets for the heal seems to be somewhat non existant and a very short icd. This mace is going to be up there as BiS for sure for any fight with stacking in terms of out put.

It didn't stack from DoT ticks on PTR, it did only proc from offensive spell casts there, thus rendering it fairly useless for a healer.

Dav1l 12/03/11 8:51 AM

Regarding Will of Unbinding and its proc:
1. Applying IS or MF gives you 1 stack.
2. DoT tick of IS or MF gives 0 stacks.
3. Any direct cast that deals damage gives 1 stack.
4. Exploding 3 shrooms (assuming they hit a target) gives 3 stacks. Didn't have a chance to test on multiple targets.
5. Hurricane and Faerie Fire don't seem to be considered as 'harmful spells' oddly enough.
You can forget about this trinket. It's pretty useless for resto druids at the moment.

If anyone is interested in 25m log with [Maw of the Dragonlord] mace here are some:
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis - Beth healing up top.
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis - Rhyo.
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis - Shannox.

Some facts about the mace:
1. Seems to be 15 sec ICD. Never procced before that, almost always procced straight away when I had WG, a couple of Rejuvs and LB rolling.
2. Can crit. Seems to take your crit chance rather than some predetermined number.
3. Works like paladin's Light of Dawn spell, I suppose it even has the same 'cone'.
4. No target cap, no diminishing on number of targets hit by it.

There's also a VP trinket [Bottled Wishes], which will be the only way to reach 3967 haste breakpoint.

P.S. You have a chest piece listed in trinket section.

Noldy 12/03/11 10:10 AM

Speaking of which, this is what I came up with for the 3967 haste breakpoint.

* It skips resto 4 set bonus and gets 2 pieces from moonkin set and 1 from Tier12
* Had to use haste enchant on gloves instead of mastery / Haste enchant on feet instead of lavawalker.
* Few haste gems but not losing any socket bonuses.
* 6 items with 397 ilvl instead of 410 / (not an ilvl freak, just pointing the +int alternate cost there)

Will make another profile using 2005 haste breakpoints and getting max ilvl gear / 4 tier pieces to see the difference when I have time. Feel free to PM if I missed some better options for any slots.

Edit: Some tough Russian guy with the soft name Torty, corrected that you can actually downgrade to T12 Shoulders and get away with not gemming haste. Also totally missed the mace with haste, all corrected.
