We all know how powerful the 2T4 bonus is but has anyone considered using [Wolfshead Helm]?

A post in the WoW forums mentioned it and I started thinking about how to use it. True you give up a standard dps helm but is the 20 extra energy worth it? The following ignores lag/misses which will of course mess with the cycle.

Standard Rotation:

Time...Ability........Energy
......Energy Tick.....100
0..........Rip..........70
1.......Mangle........35
......Energy Tick.....55 + Rip 1
2........Shred.........13
3.........................13
......Energy Tick.....33 + Rip 2
4........Shred.........11
5.....Power Shift.....40
......Energy Tick.....60 + Rip 3
6........Shred.........18
7.........................18
......Energy Tick.....38 + Rip 4
8.........................38
9.........................38
......Energy Tick.....58 + Tick 5
10.......................58
11.......................58
......Energy Tick.....78 + Rip 6
10.......................78
11.......................78
......Energy Tick.....98 + Rip 6
Repeat

With the [Wolfshead Helm]:
A slightly feasible rotation that requires 2T6 would involve an extra mangle while keeping 100% rip uptime.

Time...Ability........Energy
......Energy Tick.....100
0..........Rip..........70
1.......Mangle........35
......Energy Tick.....55 + Rip 1
2........Shred.........13
3.....Power Shift.....60
......Energy Tick.....80 + Rip 2
4........Shred.........38
5.........................38
......Energy Tick.....58 + Rip 3
6........Shred.........16
7.........................16
......Energy Tick.....36 + Rip 4
8.......Mangle........1
9.....Power Shift.....60
......Energy Tick.....80 + Tick 5
10.......................80
11.......................80
......Energy Tick.....100 + Rip 6
Repeat

This one comes at a cost of 483mp5 or 11600mana every potion cooldown. I'm usually in a BMx2 rSham sPriest group so that would help since you do get VT mana returns in forms. For my group setup it might be possible and would certainly be a dps gain since I'm gaining an mangle at the expense of the helms contribution to the damage over a 12second cycle with 100% rip uptime. I don't have Rawr at work but I'll run the numbers when I get home. There are probably better rotations out there but this is the best I could throw together while keeping the energy waste at a minimum.

My apologies I can't seem to get it to paginate the table properly.

Question on fire resist gear and how buffs stack. I know that Mark of the Wild does not stack with Fire Resist aura. Do either of those stack with Flask of Chromatic Wonder?

Yes. Chromatic wonder stacks with everything I can think of. I used it to get SR capped because losing my elixirs was far less of a loss than losing a piece of gear.

Yup, it's additive straight up additional FR you'll get from the flask.

Excellent. In that case, I think I've found the easiest way to get Fire Resist capped for the Flames of Azzinoth without sacrificing too much.

Head: [Vengeful Gladiator's Dragonhide Helm] with [Steady Talasite] and a metagem
Neck: [Amulet of the Torn-Heart]
Shoulders: doesn't matter, as long as it has [Greater Inscription of the Knight]
Cloak: [Wyrmcultist's Cloak] + [Formula: Enchant Cloak - Superior Fire Resistance]
Chest: [Vengeful Gladiator's Dragonhide Tunic]
Wrists: doesn't matter
Gloves: [Inferno Hardened Gloves]
Belt: [Blastguard Belt]
Legs: [Inferno Hardened Leggings]
Boots: [Inferno Hardened Boots]
Ring: [Phoenix-Fire Band]
Ring 2: doesn't matter
Trinket 1, 2: doesn't matter
MH, Idol: doesn't matter

This set by itself is 263 FR and is uncrittable. If you are not scryer, you can get the glyph of the gladiator to take care of the resilience. The merciless set will work just as well, and with the S4 set the S2 set will be purchasable with honor. With a flask of Chromatic Wonder and a paladin aura, you will be at 368 FR. Given some average equipment otherwise (T5 shoulders, band of the swift paw, Wildfury greatstaff, badge of tenacity/violet badge), no other enchants and rare gemming only, you'll be around 16.2k health - and that's using the MG set. Enchanted with cheaper enchants (clefthide, knothide kits, glyph of the gladiator) you'll be at 17.4k with only the chromatic flask buff, along with 22.8% ddoge.

This will cost you 70 badges, about 33k honor (in S4), require you to complete the champion of the naaru questline and do a small amount of grinding for costume scraps in Blade's Edge. It also requires 4 heavy knothide, 6 fel hide, 3 primal earth and 3 primal water. That's not too bad and gives you a fair amount of good threat given the PvP gear and some of the better slot items.

If I remember correctly, resistance can stack like this: (Buff/aura)+Consumable+Passive (Gear and maybe racial/class skills)

All consumables do not stack. I tried using [Magic Resistance Potion] a couple weeks ago. The flask does, but is hardly worth using once the required boss is on farm status. So, I just use an extra piece of FR on Illidan now.

I'm not sure its worth it. You're not only losing stats, you're losing the meta gem too. While Rawr doesn't currently model Wolfshead Helm's bonus, I can tell you factually that my DPS numbers go from 1303 to 1206 by simply unequipping my Cursed Vision of Sargeras.

How huge is that? Well, in my current item setup, which uses 4x T6, 2xT4, 1xCursed Vision, Swapping the T4 chest to a T6 chest (aka breaking the T4 bonus) results in only a 50dps loss.

If I set "Powershifting" to every cycle, my dps is 1374. If I set "Powershifting" to none, my dps is 1289. Just to give you an idea how huge the 100dps loss from replacing Cursed Vision is.

Has anybody actually seen Shadowed Gauntlets of Paroxysm (and therefore Gloves of the Forest Drifter) drop anywhere in Sunwell? I was looking over the various item databases today and they have no data on this believed-to-be trash drop. Does anybody have real data on these gloves?

Is that DPS number unbuffed?

Hi everyone,
I have read a big part of this megathread but there are still things not very clear to me.
As we are trying Kalecgos and I am one of the tanks I would like to be sure of something: does the resilience really works in pve battles? I always thought it was only a pvp stat so i was going for def rating; however if resilience works for pve it is SO MUCH better (because according to Rawr it seems 1resi = 3def rating).

The World of Warcraft Armory

For example I had to switch to this lame chocker to be uncriticable. Btw I don't understand why would anyone be using def rating gems as 10resi gems would be AWESOME to reach the uncrit cap.
If it really DOES work I think I will have to change many gems/stuff to trade def rating with sta/agi (and maybe a little expertise).

It dropped off Muru for Premonition, world 3rd. http://www.premo-guild.com/images/killshots/muru.jpg

Yes resilience does work in PVE, and is a great way to make up for the general lack of defense on our gear. I think it's 39.4 resilience for every 1%.

I was wondering if there was a general consensus on the best dps gear set post sunwell. I suppose it includes 2t4, 4t6 and two of the new feral pieces of gear but wondered specifically which parts should be selected (which t4, which t6, etc...).

Well, I think its more interesting, what you can do to maximize your usefulness during progression. You could wear, 4xT6 + 2xT4 + 1-2 Sunwell/BT random items, if you had 2-3/6 in Sunwell down.

Sure endgame post Sunwell might also be interesting, but this will end up to be our gear to level up to 80.

That's what I meant (i.e. post 2.4, best dps set up for Sunwell assuming you have access to the first few bosses in there). Sorry if it wasn't clear.

Haste in bear form

I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but if I missed a post on my question, my apologies in advance.

What effect does haste have for BEAR - i.e., threat generation?

I just got my first piece of T6, so I'm considering replacing my T5 pants with Tameless Breeches. I'd miss the hit, to be sure - I'm not hit capped. However, considering that in bear form we have a sluggish 2.5 attack speed, I'm wondering if the haste will at least offset it reasonably.

I'm concerned because I've had trouble with threat lately. I switched to the SSO hit/expertise neck, and got Pillar of Ferocity, which helped immensely. Still, I have to really push it - hit my timing as much as possible - to have Omen show me above 800 unless the neck is procced.

So now that I'm no longer protecting my 4 piece set bonus, is this a decent upgrade? Furthermore, should I look at haste in other slots in any capacity?

Thanks in advance!

(P.S. Feel free to armory me and give any other sage advice you may have - we're in early BT (Downed Teron) and are working on Archimonde in Hyjal. Also, I'm generally a bad - I started post-BC, so that says something right there.)

Defense Rating is good because it provides Dodge and Miss - avoidance, in other words.

Not a lot. It only increases your white attack speed and your maul attack speed. Keep in mind that haste is a consistent stat no matter what. In other words, if you reduce your speed to attack by 10% you will attack 10% more often in the same period of time no matter what your weapon speed actually is. Given that white attacks/mauls are about 25% of your overall threat generation, each 1% of haste increase will increase your threat by .25% or so.

This is about 3 times worse than what hit and expertise do for your threat generation before they're hit-capped, so if threat is an issue I'd recommend going with hit and expertise, not haste.

Gah. That makes Sunwell really back-loaded for ferals, gear-wise. Thanks for the information, though.

Not to mention that if you stack classes for Muru, it's unlikely you will have a Feral present for the drop at all.

I don't see why not, but I haven't seen the fight yet. I don't see why a druid can't tank one of the humanoid sides though, based on Exodus's kill.

I am pretty sure Toskk in the comments to his calculator on the druid-wiki was asked to value this like 6 or so months ago. Look there.

Unfortunately if you armory me you will only see my dps gear currently, but for expertise i have 3 pcs: earthwarden, expertise necklace, and shard of contempt and have 71 hit rating.
It's been awhile, but when tanking Leo I used to just use my DPS gear with a few modifications because he basically hits like a sissy. Since I had duplicates of a couple T4 items (one gemmed/enchanted for tanking, the other for DPS) I used the tanking versions for those to keep a bit of stamina, but everything else I just used DPS versions. I also used the [Shapeshifter's Signet]. Since I was in effectively DPS gear I was hit-capped anyway, so I just tried to build expertise. If you have to sub out more DPS gear for tanking gear make sure that there is an improved faerie fire and/or scorpid sting on him at all times, or just use the +hit food. When I did Leo there was no [Shard of Contempt], so you should have things a lot easier.

As far as tactics go, Spookeh and Zeln hit the big ones - have DoTs up and the totems make a HUGE difference. Just make sure that you try to keep them centered for most of the fight so there's a greater chance that he'll stay in range of them. During the final phase put them away from the demon form.

For whirlwinds I made sure that I refreshed Mangle and Lacerate right before he started. As soon as he would start spinning I cast Regrowth on myself, dropping out of bear form. Taking the WW here was ok, because it meant that the Regrowth would actually have something to heal. The 21 second duration of Regrowth meant it would be going strong after the WW. As soon as the Regrowth was cast I would hit him with a Moonfire. Since the 12 second duration perfectly matches the length of his WW, the fact that I spent time casting a Regrowth meant that at least one or two ticks of MF would go off after he stopped spinning. Finally, go back to bearform and Enrage. If he happens to come close to you, refresh the Lacerate, but don't go chasing after him. Stay between him and the searing totems. When he runs past you to get to the totems (if your regrowth/moonfire/lacerate don't already pull him), hit him with a Maul and Mangle. Oh, and Feral Faerie Fire well before he gets in melee range so that the GCD doesn't prevent you from using Mangle. If he's too close then don't bother with the FFF.

Leo almost never got loose once I started using this strategy, but if he does get away from you, don't panic. Make sure that your DPS knows to wait for you to call DPS before they start attacking and stop if Leo gets off of you at any time. Feral Charge usually results in you charging to where he was 2 seconds ago, so just try to corner him away from the majority of the raid so that you can hit him when he eventually tries to run past you.

Also remember that when he's about to go to demon form you want all of your DoTs to wear off of him first.

Spookeh covered exactly what I use for the demon to elf shift - get a Rip running at the right time so that you will get a couple ticks after he switches, then go to bear, Enrage, and build up Lacerates. Save Mangle so that you can use it as soon as he switches. You can also time Maul to hit right after the switch too.

HTH!
