Feral Glyphs

This is for discussion and analysis of the various glyphs available for Feral Druids through the Inscription profession. This initial post will contain a list of all Feral glyphs (and any non-feral glyphs that may be of signicant interest to Feral druids), what they do, and any special notes about game mechanics that may be unclear from the wording of the glyph. Due to their nature, all minor glyphs are included regardless of what spec they technically fall under.

At level 80 all characters have 6 glyph slots, 3 major, 3 minor. There is no extra glyph slot for being Inscription.

Also note that any ability that increases the duration of a DoT/HoT does not alter the damage per tick of the ability unless specifically noted.

Major

[Glyph of Mangle]- 'Increases the duration of Mangle by 6 seconds.' This affects both the cat and bear forms.

[Glyph of Frenzied Regeneration]- 'While Frenzied Regeneration is active, healing effects on you are increased by 20%'

[Glyph of Rake]- 'Prevents afflicted targets from fleeing.' This is has not effect on players, is merely prevents mobs from fleeing, as many humanoids do at low health. If the mob fleeing is part of a scripted event, this glyph will not alter the event.

[Glyph of Shred]- 'Increases the damage dealt by Shred to stunned and incapacitated targets by 20%.' This includes targets affected by Pounce, Maim and Bash as well as similar affects available to other specs/classes.

[Glyph of Rip]- 'Increases the duration of Rip by 4 seconds'

[Glyph of Growl]- 'Increases your chance to hit with Growl by 8%' This has no effect on Challening Roar.

[Glyph of Maul]- 'Your Maul ability now hits 1 additional target.' Any procs, such as bonus rage from critting and Infected Wounds, work on the second target. Bonus threat is apparently divided among the targets.

Glyph of Berserk- Increases the duration of Berserk by 5 seconds.

Glyph of Savage Roar- Increases the damage bonus of Savage Roar by 6%.

Minor

[Glyph of Challenging Roar]- 'Decreases the cooldown of Challenging Roar by 30 seconds.'

Glyph of Aquatic Form- 'Increases your swim speed by 50% while in Aquatic Form.' This additive, making the swim speed bonus 100%.

[Glyph of Dash]- 'Decreaes the cooldown of Dash by 20%'

[Glyph of Unburdened Rebirth]- 'Your Rebirth spell no longer requires a reagent.'

[Glyph of the Wild]- 'Decreases the mana cost of your Mark of the Wild and Gift of the Wild spells by 50%'

[Glyph of Thorns]- 'Increases the duration of your Thorns ability by 50 min when cast on yourself.'

I plan on mainly tanking for my guild, so my setup is going to be:

Major
[Glyph of Maul]
[Glyph of Frenzied Regeneration]
[Glyph of Growl]

Minor
[Glyph of Challenging Roar]
[Glyph of the Wild]
[Glyph of Thorns]

Nothing groundbreaking there. For the major glyph slots you really only have three choices for tanking. For minors you can skip Dash and Aquatic Form entirely since they really do not apply at all. So the choice here is Rebirth or Thorns. I went Thorns since Rebirth doesn't really do anything, and I can just kill one mob to get the gold to buy a reagent.

I went with Rebirth for one simple reason: it's one bag slot. In raids I'm rarely the one casting GotW and the mana cost wasn't all that special anyway.

Because of the large beneficial effect in cat form I'll likely take rip over growl unless there are future fights where a taunt resist is particularly important.

Finally, note that when maul hits two targets the static threat is split between the two targets. Not usually a huge deal, but something to note.

Anyone know when Glyph of Mangle will appear? Or is it live already? I can't find it anywhere, and it is not at Dalaran trainer. Very frustrating to have it missing as feral dps, especially since there are no other descent glyphs to fill the spot with.

It's a discovery glyph so you'll have to wait until someone discovers the recipe.

Rather than turning this into a here's my glyph setup thread, I have to ask why you'd take the GOTW glyph over Dash for the improved mobility. Furor does have a more limited raid use now, but even if your the only druid(and therefor have no imp motw/gotw) there's always time to gain enough mana before a boss for any shifts you'd need to do at the beginning of the fight(after the first 30 sec iLotP should take care of your mana).

terminalman 11/19/08 1:41 PM

I took Wild over Dash because I tank 99% of the time. Anub'Rekhan is the only fight that I can think of that Dash would have an effect on, and it would not cover each Locust Swarm. I can still dash every three minutes, cutting 36 seconds off it doesn't seem worth it for what I expect to do. If I planned on being in cat form much in the next few months I would take Dash over it though.

Just dropped the Glyph of Maul today after a rather not-fun encounter in Heroic VH involving tanking a caster boss with two CC'd mobs in close vicinity and no corner to run around. If Naxx25 and 10 is anything like the 40-man version there'll be tons of CC thrown around, which means:

Mangle - long cooldown
Maul - can't use with the Glyph active
Swipe - hell no
Lacerate - yeay
FFF - not with a Shadowpriest throwing up Misery
Autoattack - better hope you don't accidentally hit that Maul button

Anyone care to rebut my argument?

Tecton 11/22/08 8:55 PM

My rebuttal of your argument is that CC is for sissies.

Seriously, though, it's not a problem to tank mostly everything (also, I'm assuming you're talking about Erekem, and tanking the adds with him is fine), apart from a few packs, and if maul breaking CC is an issue, move the mobs.

Abradix 11/22/08 9:15 PM

Having done every raid and every heroic, I can honestly say I haven't seen CC used a single time, and I absolutely love my Glyph of Maul.

This is accurate. The only time I was in a group that used CC was when I was specced for kitty and coerced into tanking. Otherwise, go maul crazy and your tps (and dps, coincidentally), will skyrocket. I topped our first KT 25-man kill while dpsing KT in tank gear then OT'ing all 4 adds. Go figure.

Maul + Rip + Mangle are the majors I went with.

david0925 11/23/08 5:28 PM

I'm using Rip, Maul, and Rebirth because we have a full time Trauma warrior, which makes mangle glyph marginal at best.

Rebirth glyph is very nice for progression raids (which is what only matters to me in WoW), as well as rezzing the people that died to "invisible void zones" during farming.

Caniki 11/24/08 11:42 AM

I agree. Maul is it's own CC.

I'm currently using Maul, Mangle and Rip as my majors. Aquatic Form, Rebirth and Thorns as my minors.

Changer_executus 12/01/08 7:01 AM

To be honest i don't know how i coped without Glyph of Maul in the past - i absolutely love it. I havn't actually used croud control in a heroic or raid yet so it really is a non issue.

I honestly believe that frenzied regeneration glyph is also priceless - it really does make a world of difference in tight situations. I can use frenzied regeneration, survival instincts, my lifeblood from herbalism, a potion and with healers on top of that i really can be kept up through the tightest of situations - it makes off tanking the last 10% of Patchwerk quite trivial.

My other favorite is Rebirth - as someone has already said - a free bag slot is always valuable to druids, and not having an embarrassing "out of reagents" moment is worth its weight in gold.

Teldarion 12/15/08 5:08 AM

Got to agree with all the other glyph of maul lovers here. The glyph is totaly worth it if you plan on tanking. Be it heroic or raiding.

Currently as a cat druid i am using the following:
Rip - Speaks for itself. One of our two main finishers.
Mangle - All warriors i have met so far is fury, and i rarely do instance/raids with a manglebot. So keeping mangle up myself is esential
Innervate- The value of this one is debateable, but dropping out of cat form, throwing innervate on a healer and then dishing out a few heals have saved the group a few times.
