Alright folks... I am getting pretty down frustrated. I have been reading the forums here and the Moonkin Beginners guide and I am still lost. I keep coming in last during raids after the other boomkin in my guild and I can't figure out why. My rotation is IFF, IS, MF, Wrath till Eclipse then Starfire... once the actual Eclipse is over and is on CD I continue Starfires while tring to refresh my IS and MF.
Can you please look at these WWS and tell me what is going on and how I might improve... also if it is a gear issue or talent issue please.
I just scrolled through the first Ignis attempt and saw, that you periodically do absolutely nothing, e.g. here for about 8 seconds after a flamejet which you fully resisted. The first wrath hit Ignis another 8 seconds later. Thats far too much idling.

This is the Ignis Kill you posted, with a simple search that shows your Eclipse, Wrath, and Starfire spells.
1. The first eclipse that procs you only get one Starfire cast during it.
2. As the above poster said you go very long times without casting anything, you also start off the fight using Starfall. You want to use Starfall while eclipse is on iCD to maximize NG uptime
3. Make sure you are using Squawk and Awe or something similar to track Eclipse and the iCD.
I would work on making sure you are ALWAYS DPSing and if you do not have the mana for it and you stop casting to conserve it I would recommend putting points into Intensity.
I was looking at what you said and was confused... I thought I was using Starfire alot more then it says... as soon as I get an Eclipse I am doing nothing but Starfire but that is not what the report shows.
Wow this is frustrating but I am not going to give up, I have been told by my GM that he notices I stand there for a sec not casting and I am working on that and I have no idea why.
XT hard mode tonight. Didn't get a single bomb on me and had to stop to res but yea. Must say constant dot refreshing was getting to me, may have to go back to using starfire glyph over starfall.
Not bad was one of my first fights with the new eclipse. For a stop casting fight I'm thinking that 6k isn't bad at all. The change is really good and it makes crit just that much more important. 12k wrath crits are OP, especially when you can train 4-5 of then together and its a 1 sec cast for them. Makes me wish I had threat reduction abilities like other classes.
As soon as i get the WWS from our steelbreaker kill tonight I'll post that. 6.4k and I only got to stand in 1 rune for runemaster plus I brez'ed a tank during bloodlust.
Usually I'm pretty low on damage done but one of the top for dps. Pretty pleased with that, even managed to get up some dots from time to time and use eclipsed rotations in crashes heh.
Long time reader, first time poster and such. I've been able to improve my DPS quite a bit but since I'm trialing with some pro folks and I would like to be less of a scrub.
Few things off the bat I know are incorrect. I am WAY over hit capped. I'm looking to replace some of my gear (staff in particular) asap to get rid of this problem.
I recently acquired the Idol of Lunar Fury and am incredibly happy with it.
My attempted standard rotation is IFF->IS->MF->W until Eclipse procs->SF and so on. I'll reapply dots once they fall off to avoid clipping and only do so if I'm moving.
Any advice and/or violent criticism would be very much appreciated.
HM Iron Council 20 wipes and a kill, I am averaging around 6k on this fight, I tend to lose a few seconds on eclipse occasionally due to being RL and looking at what others are doing but apart from that I don't think I am doing anything wrong. I can be a bit random when I activate Starfall, I was popping it in the rune in P1 to e-peen the meters. This was my first time trying out Hamlets Eclipse macros so you will see the eclipse times cut short as well.
I'm basically at the end of my rope, I don't feel there is much more I can do here but get better gear. I keep up MF at all times, IS is usually only refreshed during lunar when there is 6+secs left on eclipse, otherwise its up as much as is possible/convenient. I even used a potion of speed here, though not under heroism.
Hopefully, there is something wrong with my rotation of FF->dots->starfall->wrath->lunar ->solar rotation, and there is something other then gear I can tweak to boost my dps.
Wrathcalcs gives me a theoretical dps of 7000. I only got one light spark on XT, though I was pulled back by someones bad gravity once as well. I'm still disappointed with my dps, and think that on a fight like XT I should have been a lot closer to 7k dps then I was, esp considering the dmg boost on heart.
Another interesting fail is Ignis, I never manage to do good dps on that guy, I never get interrupted, never get slagpotted but I still feel like a fish out of water.
The last noteworthy fail was Hodir, and mostly I attribute that to my suckage at getting the storm power buff. It always seem like whoever has it runs away from me as soon as I run towards him :p Anyone use other tactics for spreading it?

Well, rotations are the basic thing and they are easy to get right with some dummy practise. The bigger part of doing good dps is to understand fight mechanics and develop your cooldown usage and other gameplay strategies accordingly.

Not to hijack the thread and make this a "help post on rotations" I'd advise you to reconsider when you use starfall. Currently I use it about 2 seconds before my first lunar eclipse is about to end. I'm not alywas so lucky in proccing a solar one rigtht away.
Hodir is RNG also.
Moving on, World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis our first Freya HM kill, overall shitty damage from me but okish dps. Didn't die so not sure what was up with that in all honesty. Then again 2 nature's fury and conservator tanked in silly places away from me didn't help I guess
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
North Beasts, had some fps issues on first of the three
Lord Jaraxxus managed to do the last 30sec+ without proccing eclipse
Faction Champions forgot to use innervate early went oom last 3-4 champions
Twin Val'kyr
XT major fps issues
Kologarn
Algalon wipes
Tried to stick to max uptime on both dots. Tried to refresh dots as much as possible inside eclipses or anytime while moving, same for starfall. When I combined on /use haste from trinket with lunar eclipse I tried not refreshing insect swarm when not having to move. Currently a little under haste soft cap. Average results compared with my guildies, but I'm pretty happy with atm, just need solve my fps issues.
~4200 dps on kills (I tend to mostly ignore failed attempts and trash in performance evaluation, my own included) isn't "oh my god they stink" bad, but it still puts me in the bottom third of my guild's dps. I'm the GM, so my raid slot is secure, but I'd really like to be setting an example of excellence(or at least acceptable performance) rather than just scraping by.
In terms of rotation I do: IFF, dots, wrath to eclipse, starfire through eclipse, and until wrath eclipse procs, wraths through eclipse and until starfire eclipse procs, etc. I refresh dots when they expire and fire off my instacast starfires when they pop.
Some of my thoughts/questions on what might be wrong are as follows:
-I have very low fps in raids (around 13), how much of a dps loss is this giving me? If it matters, I have very good latency ( around 35 ms).
-I have a low eclipse up time percentage compared to other moonkins
-I am still using a sub-optimal spec for single target dps (I don't have IIS, but probably will respec for it next week, since it does give an increase in DPS and eclipse up time, and the dreamstate was added several gear upgrqdes back when I had almost no spirit at all) My Armory if you want to look.
-I never get the focus magic buff, because all our mages are fire and believe that it increases their dps more than it does mine. Is that still the case in 3.2?
-improved gear will help, of course, and I should probably have 2 piece t9 after next week, but I think that there is something beyond merely gear(which isn't all that bad anyhow) that is harming my dps.
P.S. as long as people are looking at that log, if some one feels like looking at the resto druid Basia with suggestions on how to improve her healing and would like to toss me a private message about it, I'd appreciate that as well, even if this is technically the moonkin wws thread.
WWS Iron Council Hard Mode
Hey,
I've linked a WWS of our recent IC Hard Mode (we didn't kill them). I've got quite a few complaints lately from officers in my guild that my DPS is too low, so I've tried to step it up a bit, and where as I've gone up from being last all the time (I was on par with the tanks is some fights) to being in a reasonable place, as you can see, the other 2 moonkins who were in the raid with me did way better DPS (they have better gear I guess, but we'll get to that).
Note: Sudocrem had connection issues, and after DCing too much was replaced, hence his low presence, but when he was there, he topped the meters.
So, any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Any gearing advice (my available gear is Ulduar 25 no hard modes other than maybe Flame Lev and XT, and ToTC (10 and 25) all current content cleared.
Any Speccing advice (after this run I've moved points from Gale Winds and Typhoon to Owlkin Frenzy, dunno if that was a good idea, but that's the tip I got).
Many thanks in advance for your advice.
Edit: I didn't get the new MF idol because Rawr said it's a signifact DPS loss over the SF idol. Is it true? Should I get it?

Get the new idol. Rawr does not model it properly to my understanding. It's uptime is near 100% so just set it to give a static 200 crit rating. This should give you a general idea of it's value.
That said,
This is a WoL of a XT-25 Hardmode I participated in last week where I ended the fight just shy of 7.2k DPS. Was my crit rate abnormally high? I had to move once. World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
I'm new to Boomkin so my ability to analyze my own logs is pretty poor. Thanks-
Well Vinen, looking at your log you concentrated solely dps'ing XT so having higher DPS isn't unheard of. I have reached 8.2k on that fight when I concentrate on nuking XT so I don't think it has anything to do with an abnormally high crit rate as much as a stand and nuke fight where your minimally interupted due to only have to move once (in your case).
Our guild's first 25 man Hodir hardmode kill, in which I managed 10k dps. I was raid-leading, so wasn't focussing fully on my personal DPS (we'd missed HM by 1-2 seconds in previous weeks in which I wasn't raid-leading, so I was quite jumpy and calling wipes relatively early if I thought we weren't on track, which you can see if you track back through the other logs). I combat-ressed someone in the middle of the fight (which was wasted, since it turned out that he'd DCed).
I wore full crit gear for this fight (four set T7.5, two crit trinkets + offhand) and aimed to benefit from Storm Power as much as possible. I'd previously tried focussing on standing in Moonbeams, but found that I had to move so often for icicles that I wasn't benefiting from it as much as I'd hoped. I'm aware that my spec could have been improved for this fight by speccing out of AoE talents, and into Brambles/final point of IIS/ImpMF instead of Moonglow--I have a generalised 'everything' spec which covers most of Ulduar nicely, but falls down on maximising single target DPS.
I was five hit rating below cap, and missed with one Starfire--time to regem my T7.5 again.
Things I noticed:
-I only had a Moonfire uptime of about 2 minutes, but I had an idol-proc buff for 2 minutes 30.
-I don't think I EVER stood in a moonbeam, but I'm unable to judge accurately since it doesn't appear in the combat log.
-I had the Storm Power buff three times, which made my crit less useful than if I'd managed a higher uptime on it.
Hi guys, real quick, i am going to link a parse of Algalon attempts for this week and if someone could help me understand why my dps seems rather low it would be appreciated.
Ok, here's a neat log from today. Stationary 100 second burn with Bloodlust at the beginning--8500 DPS (the fight is Anub'arak 10-man normal; we transitioned him before the first Burrow): World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
What I want to call attention to is the 100% Starfire crit rate. That's not luck. When you're at 100% Lunar Starfire crit, and you're running WiseEclipse, and it's a stationary DPS burn such that you can hit every WiseEclipse transition, you can reliably go for long stretches with 100% Starfire crits (as you never cast a non-Eclipsed Starfire).
Even on fights with heavy movement, you can keep non-Eclipsed Starfires to a minimum if you're very cognizant of how WiseEclipse works--always make sure to cast a Starfire that will end at the right time (<2 seconds before Lunar ends). Try to time movement, DoT refreshing, etc., around this. Here's one from tonight that went well: World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
