Moonkin: FAQ and Thread Index
I'm getting rather tired of the huge number of repeat questions that are cropping up in the Moonkin threads, so this is intended to answer all those simple/stupid questions and provide an index of the Moonkin threads in this forum so you know where you should be looking for things. This thread means there should be no excuse for shitting up the other Moonkin threads with general questions or questions that are answered here. This is not intended to be a megathread, just an index of current posts.
If you have a question that hasn't been answered, then ask it and once you get an answer I'll add it to this post. A lot of questions can be answered by reading the first post of the Dummies Guide (especially gear wise). If your question is answered in the first post of the Dummies Guide then I won't bother answering it here. I've also included the "How to use the Search function" thread just in case anyone missed it (it's a sticky in the Public Discussion forum). Thread Index
Questions and Answers Q1. If I'm running with a shadow priest, is there any benefit in Improved Faerie Fire? A1. Improved Faerie Fire provides 3% crit whenever any Faerie Fire is on the target, including Feral Faerie Fire (source). If you do not have a feral, then you should be providing Faerie Fire anyway for the armour debuff. You should always be getting the 3% crit bonus from this talent whether you're using the 3% hit or not, making it well worth the points. Q2. What rotation should I be using? A2. Generally the rotation used is IS -> MF -> Wrath until Eclipse -> Starfire. Refresh MF at any time, and refresh IS in between Eclipse finishing and the internal cooldown (ICD) finishing. - Further discussion on this question/answer can be found in posts 2-5 of this thread. Q3. What is the hit cap? A3. For Horde (or Alliance without a Draenei) the hit cap is 10% (263 hit rating). For Alliance with a Draenei the hit cap is 9% (237 hit rating). Q4. Is haste or crit better? A4. In a raid buffed situation 1% haste is approximately equal to 1% crit, but haste rating is better than crit rating due to the rating -> % conversion rates (~46 crit rating per 1% crit, ~33 haste rating per 1% haste). |
Shouldn't you use MF first before IS, because of the time that it ticks?
|
By using MF first you get the maximum duration in which to extend it through the Starfire Glyph. This is important when using Wrath to proc Eclipse because it means you have a better chance of being able to extend Moonfire through Starfire.
To explain it another way: The Moonfire initial duration is 15 seconds, of which one GCD is used on the Moonfire itself. Then you need to cast one Starfire before the end of the Moonfire to be able to extend it, so you get a window defined by: 15 - (GCD) - (Starfire Cast Time). If you cast IS after MF, then it looks like: 15 - (2xGCD) - (Starfire Cast Time). |

Edit: The above poster did explain why it might be otherwise for casting MF before IS. Either way, though, my other point still stands. |
The MF tick that gets refreshed has a DR on the SF glyph it though so it's purely based on you're crit chance and how fast Eclipse procs from Wrath. Does that make it to where it doesn't matter what order you cast it? I meant the extra GCD doesn't completely make sense to me because it has the same DR as if you casted it after IS.
Let's say we're using Duke's Rotation, and you have a bad crit streak and you don't get an eclipse proc in the first duration of the ticks of your IS. Your wrath procs an Eclipse as you're refreshing IS and your MF has what? A GCD before it falls off? Then, you'd lose the GCD because you used IS first wouldn't you? In any case, it seems that they go hand in hand after thinking about it. I was just trying to clarify that matter. Thanks. |
