Since I have 25 hit rating to play around with after getting my T5 gloves, I decided to swap my [Fiend Slayer Boots] for [Sunrage Treads]. These seem like a pretty decent (if not better) alternative to [Star-Strider Boots] which I was surprised about. Also, since I'm hit capped they might even outperform the [Quickstrider Moccasins]. I'm a LW so I can also make myself the [Boots of the Crimson Hawk] but I'm always irritated by items that don't give enough crit rating for 1%.
This brings me to 384 armor pen so I'll play around with crit and armor pen gear to see if I can notice much difference.
What are your opinions on boot progression?
Allow me to disagree on Sunrage Treads being better than Quickstriders; this is, indeed, true at the moment, when you can spare some hit rating, but Quickstriders are basically a tier ahead, and they fit quite nicely in the context of that tier.
It's very easy to dismiss +hit when you're capped, but keep in mind that, while in tier 4 and 5 content, most of the tier pieces sport hit rating, none of the direct upgrade pieces of tier gear in BT/MH don't have any hit rating. That's at least 4 pieces of gear you're losing hit (if you're going for Cursed Vision + 4/5), maybe even 5 pieces, if you're going for Bow Stitched Leggings + 4/5 tier pieces. So where then can you get the hit cap from? Boots, belt, bracers, weapon slot, etc.
The problem is you can't even get hit rating on bracers using mail, so you can likely wait a very, very long while to get a leather bracer. The tier 6 quality cloak, necklace and rings that sport decent amounts of hit rating will also be highly contested by rogues, dps warriors, ret pallies, enha shamans, heck maybe even ferals for killty dps. So, again, there's a significant chance you're not gonna get one of those the first few times they drop.
Quickstrider Mocassins are quite a cheap way to get hit rating, along with Boneweave Girdle and Halberd of Desolation.

I never thought of using it for farming, but now that you mention it, having an instant pet heal in addition to the HOT could be handy for seful soloing elites.
That's a very good point Enova. I've taken a couple of month break from raiding recently and all of a sudden my guild are in T5/T6 territory and the gear selection is rather overwhelming.
Anetheron is the next boss on our kill list and I will be going for the quickstriders since this will allow me to upgrade my kara neck with a crit one or the shattered sun exalted one (depending on the proc rate).
I think I made the mistake of using Lurker as an opportunity to test my new ArP gear forgetting that trolls get a 5% dmg bonus to beasts.
My question was never an AP vs ArP one however, I will never go below the hit cap for raiding and currently my highest priority is getting my AP between 1900 and 2000. I was mostly interested in other hunter's opinions on the spike dmg increase of crit vs. ArP. Though I do realise this is hard to model correctly to include the effect of crit on pets and the lack of ArP having an effect on arcane shot.

The very non scientific answer about this is crit > ArP, simply because Crit scales with your pet, and because regardless of spec, more crit will have its perks. Kill Command, Go for the Throat, Expose Weakness, Thrill of the hunt, extra pet critical strike chance, etc. Also, you get benefits from Relentless Earthstorm Diamond and Mortal Shots on every single crit.
However, ArP will apply to all your attacks, rather than just crits. But it is also susceptible to increasing returns. More you stack, more benefit you get.
The thing is, though, that you'll very rarely be faced with sacrificing crit over ArP, anyway. There are quite a great deal of wonderfully itemized pieces in the end game, where either haste or armor penetration are the cherry on top of the sundae. The choice usually comes down to haste vs ArP, seeing as both of them benefit from stacking a bit more than a single piece.

Hey, I've been reading these forums forever, but this is my first post. I'm having a dilemma with what I should buy first with my badges of justice. Obviously the bow is a given, but after that I'm struggling. My guild currently has Azgalor on farm and Bloodboil is the next target in BT which means I'll have access to items equal to or greater than the badge legs, gloves, and chest relatively soon (already for gloves and legs), however I don't currently have any of them. Right now, the Blade of Harbingers is looking the best, but what does everyone think about that item. I'm leaning toward the 2h axe because it seems to be the top item I can get before sunwell while the others can be replaced fairly easily. Would I be right in taking the Blade of Harbingers with my badges? Sorry if this has been discussed, but I have looked for answers throughout the hunter threads and haven't found much.
The best thing to do is download Cheeky's spreadsheet, input all your talents, shot rotations, pet stats, and gear. Then it's pretty easy to play with your gear and see how changing one item will effect your overall damage. As far whether to buy a badge item or hope for a drop - that's going to be up to you, but the spreadsheet will really hep.
Hello, I've been reading a lot about the 3:2 macro, and how it works. But can't seem to find an answer to my question. Hopefully someone knows and could help me. I'm trying to decide whether the new Badge bow would be better, or if I should hold out and wait for the Archimonde's bow (BristleBlitz). When I input the BristleBlitz(which is 3.0 speed), i get a higher DPS than when I input the new badge crossbow(2.8), using the 3:2 macro.
So my question is which combo would do the most DPS:
a) new Badge xbow with ~50 haste rating using 1:1
b) BristleBlitz bow with 0 haste rating using 3:2
c) BristleBlitz bow with ~80-100 haste rating using 3:2
Cost me 20 DKP...no Melee Shammi there and no other Hunter today!
I think 3x 10Agi would be the best choice for me as SV Hunter?
I would then also switch Belt of the Black Eagle for Belt of Deep Shadows to maintain my Hitcap...

if i replace my sonic spear with the blade of the harbingers and continue using sunfury bow of the phoenix, instead of replacing sunfury bow of the phoenix with crossbow of relentless strikes, will my damage output be lower than doing the latter? I simulated both cases using warcrafter and saw that my tooltip dps was 397 when i used the blade of harbingers. it was 395 when i changed sunfury for xbow of relentless strikes. Please help me!!!

Your comparing upgrading an excellent item (WSR) for a super-duper item (CoRS) to a crappy PvE item (S1 gloves) for an excellent item (GoR). Of course it's going to look better. If you have no other options for upgrading your hands slot, do that first. But if you are raiding at the T5+ level you'll have other options.

I haven't raided heavily since pre-BC, so t5 is not an option for me currently. Thanks for the explanation though, makes sense.
On another note: anyone else annoyed at having the s1/s2 crossbow for pvp and a gun for PvE, and having to swap ammo pouch to quiver all the time? That's part of the reason I was excited about the badge crossbow, myself.

Frenzy effects. Enrage is not frenzy. Make sure to spam that at people whenever they whine about you not tranquing random enrage effects. As far as what it removes...
edit: apparently it doesn't show mobs. Going off the top top of my head, some of the Colossi in SSC, Murlocs in SSC, Aeonus in Black Morass, Bear trash and the Lynx boss in ZA (maybe Zul'jin's lynx phase as well?).

I would play around with the rotations you're calculating this with or check your hit rating.
I'm quite surprised that there is a 30dps difference between Bristleblitz and CoRS. I would be exceedingly happy if this is true though, I've almost got my badges collected.
I also had that problem. Last night I tried to post my first ever WWS log. A guildie gave me a tip: before each pull I would cast a flare, so in order to trim the combat log to only the kill attempt, I just did a FIND for "flare". I then trimmed the lines above and below the kill and uploaded it, thinking I was doing the right thing.
No matter how many times I tried this method, pets would not work.
Finally, I tried to just upload the whole nights worth of attempts, and not only did pets exist, but it also recognised the Brut kill too! So that would be my recommendation: make sure you havent trimmed it, because it might need some combat log event/line to match pets with their owners, and your kill attempt may not have it, but previous ones did?
I have *zero* knowledge of WWS parsing, but hey, it worked for me so give it a shot I reckon.

I checked out several rotations, too (1:1 Auto/Steady, 1:1.X with Auto,Steady, Arcane, Only Auto) and the results were the same...the numbers I postet are based on the 1:1.X rotation with Auto, Steady and Arcane...cause thats what I'm using right now...
Even [Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle] would increase my DPS from 967,88 to 997.68...which is way more than Legionkiller would give (and much more DPS than Arcanite Steam Pistol...)...but this is probably because of the dwarven racial (+1% Crit to guns)...

As promised, here is a WWS of my DPS on tonights FLK attempts in SSC and is well above my theoretical limit in Cheeky's spreadsheet. I'm not sure how to explain it, I always calculate with full raid buffs as I would be in the encounter.
Having mostly Kara gear and topping DPS charts with almost 1500dps, I'm pretty darn pleased with myself tonight.
Looking for tips on where to upgrade my gear, first thing is pants (T5 or VR Greaves) then I'll replace Sunfury with CoRS. Not sure after that point.
Tonight was a guild 1st for FLK, we hope to be done with SSC in about 3 weeks (started only last week with Hydross and Lurker). Next week is Morog and Leo.

But the fact is, that I get these numbers for the 1:1.X rotation I use as Survival, I triple checked it...and I really don't know what else to change...or where the error should be...
Perhabs someone with a bit more understanding of the sheet could import my Armory (Vallerian - EU - Azshara) into the sheet and check the results, because +30 DPS would be great...and if Bristleblitz or Legionkiller drop I really want to know which one is worth taking...
