I disagree, but not about the choice. +hit is the best stat per itemlevel. But in this case we see two vastly different levels in itemlevel. Obviously 'lesser' stats can overcome hitrating (even when fully useful) if there is just enough of it. And in this case there certainly is.

Not to forget the ArP. That is a good stat in it's own right, so Garona's only provide hitrating while the Signet provides crit, AP and ArP. And of course more Agi for scaling.

This might sound silly, but being hit capped comes in handy on Misdirection pulls too. I mean the type where the boss' aggro radius is larger than 35 yards, and he's already running towards you when you fire the first shot. Missing that first shot can suck, and it did happen to me once.

There's really nothing to disagree with that's not covered in Kom's post - hit rating is best on a point-by-point basis, but it must not be looked at in a vacuum, which the people who advise "hit rating > all, get to the hit cap before you do anything else" often do. Hit rating is just a DPS stat as any other, albeit the cheapest one in terms of item budget. An item that provides more DPS is better, no matter if it has or doesn't have hit rating, regardless of item level.

For gems, "hit > all until capped" is a good guideline because they provide about the same amount of stat points per gem, but you rarely have perfectly itemized gear with the difference being that one item has hit rating while the other has an equal amount of "something lesser" rating. But that's what spreadsheets are here for, plug in gear, and if you're not sure whether an item with hit rating really comes out on top, compare it to another item without.

Everyone always coming to Zathras with problems. Great responsibilities. But Zathras does not mind. Zathras trained in crisis management.

Sorry if my post was misleading, but we are saying the same thing. I certainly agree that hit rating is very cheaply given on the item budget, and I exploit that fact as much as I can with my own gear. But as me, you and Lord Loom said, theres a point when another stat becomes better, and in this case that point is crossed. So in conclusion I think we all said the same thing in 4 different ways, haha.

I've got a question as a raider; my dps has been slacking a bit and i wanna find out why. i'm currently bm, with no haste and a 3.0 seconds bow (both illidan's and archi's), wich is quite slow, wondering if i should turn back to my Xbow Of Relentless Strikes, or get an other faster weapon (wich i cant find). the macro im using right now is:

"/script UIErrorsFrame:Hide()
/cast !auto shot
/castsequence reset=2/combat/target Steady Shot, !Auto Shot
/castrandom [target=pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Show() "

Another (noob) question is:
Wich purple gem is best: +10 ap and 2mp5 or 5 agi and 7 stam
and wich yellow or orange or whatever is best.. (when hit capped ofcourse)

Try switching to a /cast /cast (3:2) macro, and see how that works out. As for the gem, the 5 agi will be better, since it scales with BoK.

Bad macro for using a slow bow. Just use:
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/castrandom [target=pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/cast Steady Shot
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

Also get a 4th piece of T6, and your good to go.

I've used the macro with both Xbow of relentless strikes and it does more dmg with it then 3.0 bows. so gonna use that for a while

another question is what's best weapon for BM, i calculated dps:
1= 86.57 DPS; 2.6 SPEED
2= 96.88 (+1.3 DPS of hit rating= 98.18) DPS; 2.8 SPEED
3=97.9 DPS; 3.0 SPEED
4=97.7 DPS; 3.0 SPEED
so first one is 10 DPS lower but is much faster so dunno wich i shoud use..

ps: thanks for answering

Agility capped?

I've been looking through most of the forum and haven't yet spotted anything about this. So just had to ask

I'm a survival hunter with 811 Agi unbuffed. And was thinking if there is an agility cap? Or a point where more agility doesn't give you more benefits?

I'm thinking like hit raitng can be capped at 95 as Survial and 146 as BM/MM.

In my eyes there shouldn't be a cap on agi, but of course there might be another reason for not going higher. Well I'm curious and couldn't think of a better place to ask then here.

Thx in advance.

Absolutely NOT. There is no soft cap to agility, no hard cap to agility, and no diminishing returns to agility. Sooner or later you will hear some hogwash about "after X agility, stack something else" or other such foolishness. Do not be so gullible!

Hunter DPS is proportional to some linear function of both AP and crit chance, for all attainable values. Agility provides both AP and crit chance, and Hunter DPS is therefore quadratic with respect to agility. In addition, Rogue/Warrior/Pet/Enhance DPS are all also proportional to some linear factor of AP (for all values), which EW provides via agility. Stack it to high heaven.

Stack it to high heaven.
And just to take it one step further,

2 points in agility is worth more than 2AP + 1crit rating! Thus if you have the option to stack 100 stat points in any combination of agi, crit or AP, take 100 points of agi ALL THE TIME!

Badge bow VS. BBS

I'm currently running with 78 passive haste and the badge bow, bringing me to a 1.93 speed. Unhasted it's usually 3:2...QS brings me to 1:1. I'm confused as to why so many people are using 3.0 wep speed over the badge bow. I have used my BBS in raids before and the DPS is a huge loss, mainly due to it being nearly impossible to get it to a 1:1 with QS and it isnt as tight of a rotation as with my badge bow (2.07 speed with BBS and passive haste).

I would like some responses other than "go to cheekys" because I have done that multiple times and I still cannot answer whether or not my badge bow with a 1.93 speed is better than my BBS with 2.07. Please keep in mind I almost never have drums since lately ive been the only hunter and am being thrown in the damn tank group with no beneficial buffs whatsoever.

What attack speed is the best for a 3:2? What are the ideal amounts of haste to have with a 2.8 and with a 3.0? Is it worth it to not have 1:1 with QS up when using a BBS? (1.80 with QS)

Tricky,

I'm at about the same point as you and am just pillaging my brain to get it to understand how haste works FOR ME. Everyone seems to have different experiences even with the same passive haste and weapon speeds.

What I've found most important is how well you're buffed and composed in group. I find the best results happen when shooting slower but having a group that helps you stack haste (drummers and shammies) combined with having a lot of ways to temporarily boost haste yourself (RF, QS, haste pots, DST). For this, I'd keep the BBS and your 2.07 shot speed (an excellent 3:2 speed I find).

What I have ended up doing however, is basically going to boom and removing all items that can give haste procs and ran on viper. I then run a test or two for 6 or so mintues (popping mana pots to keep going) just spamming the 3:2 macro. I start the first test using zero haste, then 25, the ~50, 75, 100, etc. And calculate my shots per second, seconds per shot, whatever. You can then get numbers for any set attack sped you can achieve (which can also occur under haste procs) and figure out the % more shots you can get in by having more haste or by getting a haste proc.

It is then up to you to decide whether it's worth it to stack more passive haste to shoot faster and if that speed increase is worth the tradeoff in other stats you could otherwise have. (i.e. going from 25 to 100 haste with the badge bow sees a 7% increase in the shots I shoot... for me that's better than what I can achieve with agi/crit instead... But since I get drummers and shammies I can achieve this additional 75ish haste passively from drums and so I don't bother equipping it on my gear.

This is what people mean when they say you have to figure it out for yourself... And like you said, cheeky's simply doesn't model the changing outputs of the /cast/cast macro at different haste ratings very well at all. Gotta do this on your own.

It can take a bit of time but it gets you concrete answers that

Misdir vs Blessing of Salvation

Hi fellow hunters,

It may be a very stupid question, but the offical things and my exprience is not fitting at all. Yesterday we were on Archimode, and I was MD-ing the MT after the pull (ok, MT runs ahead, I'm a bit behinde him, and becasue archi aggro range is so huge, he pulled before I could shot), it helped him gain init aggro, and stablize the boss. I had BoK and BoS as raid buffs from the paladins, and after many tries and wipes, our shammy CL suprised by the fact I'm pulling with Salva on me.

We had a little disagreement because he said, MD-ing with salva is not proper, because the tooltip says:

Misdirection:
"Threat caused by your next 3 attacks is redirected to the target raid member." and of corse Salve is decrasing my threat.

But my experiment shows that not my threat but the dmg I create transfered to the target of the MD. Many times the aggro showed for the Tank in Omen I'been md-d is equal with the 3 shots I've done. Since Kara I'm the cl and main puller in our guild.

Can someone confirm my exeperiment with MD or the shammy CL is rigth? Any advice, idea welcomed.

Ps: Pls tell me in your guild how do you do the pulling, with or without salva? And pls forgive my bad english...

I think you are too much worried about the pulling mate.
To be honest I have not checked how much does it redirect, so I have done MD's having salvation on and off - as they say, it just gets the job done.

I noticed that you had Kings and Salvation on, but for next time I would suggest you asking Kings and Might instead - this way you can do more damage and so called initial threat redirecting is bigger.
This is my blessing lineup:
1 blessing : might.
2 blessings: might and kings.
3 blessings: might, kings and wisdom (can be swapped with salvation if you have judgment of wisdom running).
4 blessings: might, kings, wisdom and salvation (although some people prefer healing blessing over salvation).

Oh, and do not be afraid of not having salvation - you will be fine with fake death.

That highly depends on your gear level, your tank's gear level and what other buffs you have. Also depends on wether you have a resisted FD. On Archimonde it's probably better because you're doing a lot of running away from fire and such.

There have been times, personally, where I have taken salv over might or wisdom on fights like Brut when we only had two or three pallies so that I'm not in danger of pulling off the tank before my FD cooldown is up.

Survival help

Hi all,

I have basically been raiding as a Survival hunter for about two months basically in SSC/TK/MH.
Here is my link: The World of Warcraft Armory

Basically, I am using one macro: Castsequence AS,SS,AR,AS,SS,AS,SS,MU,AS,SS

And I use a ravanger as pet…

I normally use agility food, agility potion and scroll when I can buy one .
So, during raids I get pretty much around 1050 agility buffed…

But, my dps is always low in my point of view and I do not believe my gear is that bad…

My question is: should I be using a different macros? Should I be using two different macros (one for hasted and other for unhasted?) what theses macros would be? My average dps is about 860 varing during the fight (Wow Web Stats

What I am doing wrong? Should I be in a difference group with a shammy (my mana goes down quite fast), feral druid shadow priest to sustain dps?

Thanks for any help.

The threat from MD is directly proportional to the damge done by those 3 shots. This *threat* is modified by Salvation, but not the damage done (wouldn't THAT suck).

The thing is that the extra threat from MD is nearly useless during a fight for helping the tank hold aggro. I still use mine during fights because every little bit can help.

MD really shines during the initial pull. The amount of threat mitigated by Salv from those 3 shots is not going to be a big deal unless the tank already sucks at holding aggro and someone jumps the gun with dps. Otherwise the threat will be plenty to direct the boss over to the tank and get things started.

As Squinky says it's mostly conditional. If your tank sucks or you have no threat issues during the fight,go with Might/Kings. If your tank is fine or if you're threat capped a lot, go with Salvation. Your Shaman CL is wrong to insist on never MD with salvation.

Well, thanks for all the responses. Our MT is really good, he is a maniac, with huge excel sheets and calculations about his preformance. As far I understand our shammy CL was correct in theocrafy, but as my (and yours) expericene shows, it is doesn't really matter. About paladins buffs: off corse I do really prefer BoM, and BoK, but we were just trying Archimode, and the little hp boost is helps.

If any of your DPS are threat capped, then every point of misdirected threat during a fight directly increases their damage done. In fact, because those threat-capped DPS have salvation and inherent threat reduction modifiers, 1 point of misdirected damage will result in about 2 points of extra damage done for every threat-capped DPSer in the raid. Therefore, if people are threat-capped, misdirection is about the best way you can spend a GCD for raid DPS.

Aborigene,

As SV, your shot rotation is EVERYTHING! As SV, your pet only deals about 10% of your damage as opposed to a BM's 25% or so. That means the pressure is all on YOU to ensure you're putting out top damage... plus your rotation is harder! It will definitely take some practice to get used to SV.

Your cast sequence macro shows me that you know the correct rotation to be using... but my guess is that using that macro you're having trouble executing the right rotation throughout the fight (i.e. during different hastes and after Feign deaths).

If I were you... I'd try to learn to use just the auto-steady 1:1 castsequence macro and manually shoot your multis and arcanes when they're ready. It's not as hard as it first seems. Manually weaving has the benefits of 1) being able to still shoot specials on trash (Multi breaks cc... especially in SSC/TK) and 2) your rotation becomes more flexible and can change more easily depending on your haste.

Generally, you should be shooting the 1:1.4 rotation you described during normal haste and a 1:1 or 3:2 when significantly hasted. Your first focus as SV should be how to shoot these two rotations and transition between them quickly so you're firing on all pistons the whole fight.

Afterwards, practice timing your cooldowns/potions/Rapid Fire/Readiness/etc. so that you are hasted as often and as long as possible (a heroism works wonders here!). You should probably be specced 0/20/41 at this point in progression, picking up readiness at the bottom of the tree. As SV, you should also have enough mana regen (through thril of the hunt, mana oils, buffs, judgement of wisdom, etc) to not need to use mana pots even when running the whole fight in aspect of the hawk. If you're running on viper, you're losing a lot of dps. Pop mana pots when you get low and haste pots the rest of the time.

That's all I can offer for advice right now. It really does just take practice to get used to SV though... different shot rotation, more complex cooldown/potion rotations, but much more fun I find:P

I've been confused by something I've come across in the other TC threads. Does Haste really not decrease the GCD (down to 1sec) of Steady Shot as it does other spells? Is this a special case or were physical abilities simply not changed as spells were in the recent patch?
