Just to clarify this, the GCD of aspects (as it is described in the post above) willl not be reduced to 0 seconds. They will however be taken off the Global CD and be given a separate CD for aspects that will last 1 seconds (in other words, you have to wait 1 second after having activated/changed to an aspect to change to another aspect).

None that I can see. I spent a fair amount of time w/ the target dummies and did 4 rounds each (to OOM) both with and without "/cast !Auto Shot" in the macro but with all else the same and there was nothing to indicate any relevant differences in sustained dps.
It did have the desired effect of launching auto attacks (and defensive pets) right off the bat instead of waiting 2s. I also avoid clicking most of the time - dropping HM on the target while following the raid assist, so !auto has a home again on my mouse wheel.
I've seen several people mention that putting rabid on auto is broken currently. I did similar tests with and without Rabid in the shot macro, and there was a > 100 dps difference, and the combat log showed the obvious. If you run with a Tenacity pet, a simple macro is still called for.
The same tests with and without Rake in the macro yielded no differences, pretty much as expected.
I need to test it more and look at the actual combat log. I only tested once disabling "auto shot/auto attack" and spamming SS didn't show any real difference (versus spamming SS with the configuration enabled). I'm sure that was statistically meaningless, but I wonder if they slipped a fix in there. More a careful review of logs tomorrow should tell ..

Great, thanks for the info Difool!
Then I will just keep my rotation and do not listen to those guys on the official forums that try to tell me using a rotation macro will get me lower dps since 3.0.2.

So I was looking at the pet talent calculator on wowhead and supposedly at 70 you are supposed to have 16 points for your pet without the 51 point BM talent, but for some reason i only have 13...anyone know what would cause this?

Your pet will have 13 points at level 70. It'll increase to 16 at 80. Remember, pets only get one talent point every four levels, starting at level 20.

I searched as best I could but couldn't find any info on this one.
with regard to marked for death, does it have to be your mark? I know it has to be your sting for serpent-chim shot(obviously), serpent-LnL, and the SS glyph, but MfD, there doesn't seem to be any info.
I believe it should be able to work even if it's another hunter's HM, because I was spec'd for imp hunters marks with the glyph for a while and I noticed mine did over ride others. However I can't confirm it. anyone?

HM and Improved HM are shared, per their description. MfD does not mention raid or party. I'm BM spec and on raids with a MM I have never seen MfD. This isn't solid confirmation, as I've missed more obvious things for far longer, but nothing in the game mechanics indicate this is a shared ability.

I would like some theory crafters to give me some numbers what backs up the fact that the trinket is just as good for a BM hunter as it is for a rogue. I kno it is but my word is not good enough so I need some theroy behind me, I mean basically its another Drake Fang Talisman/Dragonspine Trophy all over again so anyones input is much appreciated. Also to add the guild was on muru pre 3.0 and our best attempts were getting entrope to under 10% so its not like we are undeserving of the loot since this patch has come.

Five months of changes...
I've been away from the game for five months (I work on ships), and I'm trying to make sure I understand how to deal with the changes from 2.4 up to 3.02
i think I've got the essentials, but I'd like to confirm my conclusions.
Could one (or more) of the nice, helpful gurus of the EJ forums please confirm the ideas I'm getting from more than a day's worth of reading?
As a BM Hunter:
- to max DPS there's no more shot rotation, macros, or weaving: just mash the steady shot button unless you need a special for some reason. I suppose it's fine to trigger all the cooldowns together for max DPS too.
- 50/11 and a Scorpid is a good general choice for max DPS.
- Cat may be max DPS too, but there is a need for a macro due to problems with "Rabid." Should be fixed soon (fixed in 3.02?)
(Question: can't I just put a Rabid button on the bar and click to activate?)
(Question: I'm lame with macros and have always just copied others -- is there now a big DPS difference from button pushing, or just convenience?)
- Weapon speed does not matter for shot rotation any more, so for more DPS I should use my "Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix" instead of my "Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle"
(Question: does this mean that weapon DPS is now the accurate stat to look for, instead of weapon speed first?)
- Now that all tenacity pets have "Charge" my Pig is nothing special, may as well drop him for a Scorpid (and eventually a Gorilla for grinding, when I can tame one at 75).
- Windserpents are now mostly good for PvP. My TK resist spec WS is no longer as good as a cat for raiding.
- Hit Cap is still the most important stat. After that 1 Agility is better than 2 AP. Then Crit, which is better than Haste.
(Question: I use "Romulo's Poison Vial" to get hit cap 142 for raids, and change it for "Hourglass of the Unraveller" for grinding. I suppose I should hit cap while leveling up to 80, right?)
my armory, if anyone cares to comment or advise:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sh...alas&n=Werdnaa
(Yes, I'm too stupid to know how to make links)
It would be great if I could get confirmation (or correction) on the list above. I really have tried to read up on things, but I have not seen a simple summation on what the new changes mean, so I'd like to refer it to the experts.
Thanks all who spend their time helping confused people like me.

This is true.

Also true. Nerf incoming soon, but Scorpid will still be a good choice.

Cat will probably always be a good choice for high dps, but with changes coming (nerfing cats/scorpids, buffing exotic pets) it might no longer be king.
You sure can have Rabid on the pet bar and push it to activate, but it'll be a pain since the pet gcd interfers. The general opinion is that it's for the best to put it into a macro together with your Steady Shot.
No macro will probably increase your dps by a whole lot, as it did with Manito's pre 3.0. But for the convenience of getting Rabid casted evey cooldown, it's common to put it into a macro together with Steady Shot.[/quote]

As far as I know, this is also true. Given the same dps, I would go for the slower weapon as Steady Shot will hit for more.

Boars are still good for tanking, even though the Gorilla's Thunderstomp is probably the best tanking ability we've seen in a while.

Still decent raid damage, but not close to that of cats/scorpids (again, nerf incoming, but still probably will hold true)

"Hit Cap > Agi > AP > Crit > Int > Haste" will probably be the most general way to look for items. But no need to totally neglect an item just because it has some haste on it. Haste still does something for our dps, just not that much.
Romulo's Poison Vial is not a very good trinket, but as you say, Hit Cap is important.

Hit Cap
Thanks Cappade for the confirmations.
I'll be a little less worried of being useless in SSC/TK. My guild is working on the Twins in Sunwell, so I'm unlikely to raid except maybe if other friends' guilds need a hired gun (literally). I was never a really a hard-core raider anyway, I just get invited when a regular does not show up (or when they needed just a bit more DPS for a particular boss).
About Romulo's: I know it's not the best trinket out there, but it does very neatly take me to 142 hit on the rare occasion I get invited to raid.
For 5-man, and grinding I use the Hourglass because I know that I don't need the same +hit on lvl 70 and less mobs (and put Romulo on for bosses only).
I wonder what the importance of hit-cap will be on the way to 80? I suppose it will be the same as raids because there will be plenty of mobs of higher levels. The new question will be what is the new cap, since it will be possible to meet mobs of lvl 83 (although not likely at 71, I admit). It would seem silly to go much higher than 142, but in theory maybe it would help. I'm sure Cheeky will calculate all the possibilities before LK goes active :-)
I'll look for +hit on the drops that come my way while questing in a couple of weeks so I can use a better trinket. For now, it does not seem like a very good investment (of time) to grind the gold to re-gem the epics I'm going to replace soon by questing. Better to get my lvl 61 Druid up to 70 so I have a tank for WotLK. My Hunter is likely going to run a few instances/raids so I can practice a bit, and maybe farm a bit of gold.
I'm sure looking forward to WotLK. The day after it comes out I'll be able to to play with my old friends again, since I'll be back on par with my guildmates as far as equipment goes (but not as good on play after all these months). I'm sure they will be upset that my their 5 months of raid acheivement get negated in the next patch, but I trust that they had fun with the content.

Stacking hit while leveling (from a BM PoV) is a smart move, because another change that was not mentioned is that our pets receive 100% transference of our hit rating. The talent Animal Handler no longer increases hit for pets, but rather increases Expertise. Our pets can't hold aggro effectively if they are not hitting anything. So, to answer your question...Yes, always look to add hit as you level to 80. The scaling from 70 to 80 for hit rating is fairly steep (I don't remember the hit rating requirement for capped off the top of my head).
EDIT: Doing a quick referencing of the spreadsheet shows that a L.80 hunter needs 295 hit rating to be hit capped against a L.83 boss.

OUCH! maybe I'll have to hold on to that lame trinket for a while (sighs). Hopefully there will be plenty of +Hit on the new gear.
Thanks Mattaos for this info, and especially thanks for the BM 3.0 thread you made, it's been the perfect resource for my return to WoW.

|
I think there was a misunderstanding. I wasn't referring to the actual MfD talent as shared, but was curious if a hunter had this talent, and a different hunter were to apply hunters mark to a target, would it still work for MfD for the first hunter?
from hunter wotlk discussion:

I have recently done testing concerning using Chimera > Aimed > Steady x4 VS Chimera > Steady x5 and thinking about a spec at 80. Currently in 4/8 not including Aimed shot is a slight increase in DPS for me after doing 4 tests. Each test lasted about 10 minutes where I did 500,000 damage with aspect of the viper active and use no gear with a proc ability on it to keep as much constant as possible. I then did my second 2 tests with another hunter applying hunters mark because of the talent marked for death.
While the tests could be performed longer to average out crit chances even better I felt 40 minutes of shooting a dummy was good enough for me.
Another question then comes up. Your spec. Looking at the spec I am looking at for 80, am I willing to give up 350+ AP(Careful Aim), 4% armor pen on steady shots (Piercing Shots), and 2/3 in Wild quiver for 12% increased damage and crit chance on a shot that is only fired once every 10 seconds. Really Reducing all damage slightly and reducing steady even more to use Aimed.
I'm very open to others response because I am wondering what others have tried and discovered for themselves.
|
This would seem to imply that you can in fact have another hunter apply hunters mark and have it work for your MfD talent. However, I still have yet to see anyone testing this specifically and posting their results. (note: I tried, but after 2 days I couldn't talk/bribe another hunter into an hour of dummy testing, very short attention spans these days)
Another strange thing I noticed about HM, I was in SW with 2 other hunters and at the time I had imp HM, and the HM glyph. My hunters mark replaced theirs, I did see 2 separate HM debuffs on the target until that point. Possible bug?

It's possible to mark the same target twice with different "levels" of HM under certain situations. To the best of my knowledge, only the strongest one is active. The other is just a display bug.

I think Int will be right behind Agility with the new focused aim so high in the Marksman tree, considering it adds all the benefits of AP and a larger mana pool. It still wouldn't compare pure dps wise to Agility's crit bonus. I would be interested in seeing an AEP-like conversion, how much Int it takes to surpass 1 point of agility, reason being the 20 agility vs. 30 intellect enchants for one handed weapons. Dual wielding double int enchanted weapons yields 90 mana, and 60 Attack Power if talented, vs. 40 agility which is 1% crit and 40 AP at level 70. Any theory crafting been done on this? I don't have the time or the gold to invest in this experiment pre-expansion, maybe shortly after I hit 80 (which could favor int more if agility gives less crit at 80 on a per point basis than it does at 70, although the fact that we will be at such a low crit chance come 80 the crit might still be more valuable)

the thing is that an int point costs much more item lvl than AP, so when u look at a "general" way to chose an item, the best thing is to see the item as a whole and forget the "single stat" way to chose it.

well theres plenty of posts defending AGI vs AP, but the best way for you to search for the best options regarding to DPS is the Spreadsheet that Shandara and Cheeky developed during the last years. you can find it in the Class Mechanics tag in this forums
