That's incorrect... though all quivers and ammo pouches say "Increases ranged attack speed by x%", they use different spell effects that only work for their weapon class:
I am wondering what the optimum shot cycle is for a marks hunter. I have been BM throughout TBC, just switched to marks cause archimond is a very unfriendly pet fight. Should I be spamming everything on its cool down, spamming the auto/kc macro and throwing in arcanes, or just roll my face on the keyboard and hope everything works out.

Hunters help me please.
You might want to read the following thread, the graphic illustrations are quite comprehensive:
Rolling your face on the keyboard is a bad idea even with the steady/auto/KC macro. In fact, joke aside, it's a bad idea for hunters to use their otherwise good abilities randomly.
EDIT: I've had very serious issues getting anything remotely close to a good shot rotation with both [Dragonspine Trophy] and IAOTH, regardless of weather they procced simultaneously or in succession; you might want to experiment with various specs and gear setups for a bit. I'd recommend copying to the PTR to save yourself a few respec bills.

I have The same problem as the previous poster (about kael and alar gun). I use the al'ar gun right now because i am specced Survival. Should I just bring my wraith tide, and use arrows? This way i could have the bow equipped and manage to get the quiver haste as well (from what I am reading, if I am reading I do not receive arrow haste)
also from what I have read from other sources, and in the thread posted above i have concluded the following shot rotation For survival on a 2.9 speed weapon.

EDIT: Elfalora has a point too. Mana is an issue. In addition to those suggestions, consider trying to swap out some of that rogue leather for something with +int on it.
You might also consider doing some hellfire PvP to the mark of conquest. While its a level 62 item, its also worth about 35-40 MP5 for a BM hunter and would probably outshine the bladefist trinket that you have now.
Its not an every-fight kind of thing, but it is handy on the longer ones.
Also, use mana oils; they are cheap to make, last 30 mins, and persist through death.
I used Doomwalker's gun at Kael, and had a quiver in a seperate bag slot, as well as my ammo pouch. Sucked for bag space, but got the job done.
What I do as a hunter who uses the Al'ar gun is that when we're at Kael I take the rest of my bullets out of the ammo pouch and put them in a bag along with my ammo pouch and then put an empty quiver in my 5th slot. That way I use the bullets in my bag for phase 1 where losing 15% haste rating matters not at all, but when I open up the bag holding the legendary arrows they are automatically put in the quiver and I gain the haste rating for the rest of the fight that matters. This is just a bit more bag friendly than having 2 full bag slots taken up by both ammo pouch and quiver.
Ah ok thanks for the advice on that you can have both a ammo pouch and quiver equipped at same time will help allot next time as I don't have a problem with bag space just take the essentials for this fight anyway so i have room. Used did it with bullets in separate bag with pouch empty so i could just FD and switch them but having them both equipped will give me more DPS time in Phase 2 which is needed.
I use these macros after I loot the bow.
1.
/castsequence Netherstrand Longbow, Netherstrand Longbow
2.
/castsequence Bundle of Nether Spikes, Nether Spike
Note: you must have autoloot on. When you equip the bow, wait for the GCD before clicking again to use the bow. When you click the second macro, wait for the bundle to empty before you equip the arrows.
Other note: Yes, you should be able to combine these into one macro, but it breaks if you do. No idea why.
Hi, I would like some constructive criticism on my gear and build.
I am in a casual guild currently doing kara, i find myself near the bottom of the dps meters. I can keep up a good rotation 1:1.5 and normally only fail due to lag issues.
Our guild is quite casual and doesn't care too much about dps meters as long as we do the job but i would always like to improve.
I just got the sonic spear this week so it it the only item i haven't enchanted yet, Thanks.
Nieto: You haven't really given much information on which people can base useful suggestions.
* Giving relative position on damage meters is not as useful as absolute numbers. (e.g. "I only did 450 DPS on Attumen".)
* Enough of hunter performance depends on "what you actually did" that it's difficult to give constructive criticism without a WWS parse.
That aside, looking at your Armory page:
* Marks is generally considered to be a weaker hunter build than 41/20/0 for pure raid DPS. You are probably handicapping yourself with your current spec.
* Even as Marks, your build puts a bunch of talent points in Survival that don't boost your DPS. If you're concerned with pure DPS (and not a utility build such as improved trapping for Moroes), better investments would be Imp. Barrage, Imp. AotH, and Focused Fire.
Obviously, if you need to spec for utility or more reliable CC, there is a trade-off to be made. It depends on what your goals are.
Is there any program out there that if you input a combatlog that it will tell you what your average auto shot time is??
I'm a SV hunter and I use the kill command steady macro. I want evidence to see if KC slows down my auto shot... while I only use steady and auto shot. If someone is confident if it does or does not that may save me some time from having to program one myself. :p
If your flight time to the mob is constant (both you and it are standing still) my parser will give you an average time between auto shots. I use it to figure out stuff like this (link in my sig, need java, etc).

This doesn't really tell us much, for all we know the rest of your raid is very dedicated to performing as best they can, speccing and gearing specifically for PvE.
If so there's very little you as a pure PvP specced hunter (I'm going to assume you raid with that spec), can do to best them other than respec yourself.
If not I'm going to say pet management. I always found this to be my biggest issue.

Hm if a hunter is at the bottom of the dps meters usually one of two things are wrong:
1/ Pet is not being used or is not included in damage meter. Some addons are notorious (among hunters that is) for not including pet damage, good meters that do would be either SW Stats or Recount.
2/ Shot rotation. It's easy to mess up actually. What's your rotation, and are you using a cast bar to make sure you're not clipping autoshot?
On your profile, I presume you logged off in PvP gear, which doesn't help. If this is your raiding gear, that would explain some of the lacking DPS, your AP and crit are rather low for a raiding Marksman hunter and there are lacking enchants as well as some less-than-optimal enchant and gem choices.
Talking about the Netherstrand bow on KT, how long do these weapons last? For example, if I loot the bow on one attempt and we wipe would I still have it through death or FD? I'm thinking about maybe putting a Khorium Scope on it. (crazy I know)

I haven't taken part in the KT fight yet, but my guild says it's around 15-20 minutes or so. That means you'd barely have time to use it till phase 3 of the second attempt, if you wipe. Scopes aren't that good of an idea, considering the mats cost for one, and the stats on [Netherstrand Longbow] already surpassing every ranged weapon available till then (and even after that).

I've got a question. I apologize if it's been asked before, if so, please forgive me and link me to where a sufficient answer has been posted. I've been experimenting with a shot rotation macro that just alternates between Auto and Steady. It's really efficient on the mana spending and I usually top the damage meter in my current raid with it (we're doing Karazhan). I'm looking at an average of about 700-800 DPS using it. But I've also been experimenting with an alternate shot rotation macro that uses Kill Command periodically. I'm wondering which is preferable, throwing Kill Command into the list or just sticking with the Auto/Steady alternation? I have no way to test the latter except directly in the field (Since if I send my pet at Dr. Boom, it'll die fast.), so I was wondering if you guys have any experience with the two?
Also, just for a check-up, might someone check out my Armory and let me know how I'm doing and if any adjustments are in order and why? Thanks in advance.

Negative. You can create a bundle of spikes, loot it and feign. This will allow you to retain the higher quality arrows for 15 minutes. I actually traded some to another hunter after a wipe on Monday night. As long as you can feign, the ammo does not despawn until the timer expires. The weapon does however despawn immediately.
Anyone know of a macro that can swap arrow types before each shot?
I use a pretty standard BM auto/steady macro, and will soon have access to the [Timeless Arrow].
Without going into my rant about why hunters have to be the only class that has to pay (and now pay a LOT) for the privilege of using our weapon, I would like to be able to use "good" arrows for Auto/multi and crap arrows for Steady, since Steady damage is not dependnet on the arrow anyway.
Hey guys, I was looking at all the new badge and ZA gear that is comming out and I noticed that some had haste rating. I have read earlier that too much haste might be a problem epsecially with RF,IAotH,Beserker, etc. So I was just wondering what would be an ideal amount of haste to have and is there a point where too much haste is a bad thing. I use a /castsequence rotation of Auto,Steady,Arcane,Auto,Steady, etc. and I usually am at about 130 latency. Here is my armory profile:
I have a question for tthe more accomplished theorycrafters among you. Now with 2.3 being released next week a few other hunters I know have talked about speccing back to MM. Now I can understand if they want to go back to a spec they prefer to BM, but I can't really see anything in 2.3 that will manage to push MM over BM, dps wise, in PvE. At least not on my gear level - heroic blues and LW/Kara epics.

Am I missing something here?
Well, it's not a matter of missing something or not, and it's no big theorycraft secret. Basically, patch 2.3 will add lots of passive haste and armor penetration on both Zul'Aman drops ([Tuskbreaker]) and on new badge rewards ([Shifting Camouflage Pants]). However, neither haste nor armor penetration does not scale to pets, making Marksmanship and Survival the main customers for these.
Also, hunters get buffed for arenas in season 3, so your friends might want to have an all-purpose spec (and x/41+/x is still the best arena spec, and not all that bad for raids, either). Overall, as you said it, it's just a matter of flavor, because i strongly doubt that the badge and ZA gear alone will make marksmanship viable at that level (meaning it's only in fights such as Archimonde, where pets die to Doomfire where marksmanship truly shines)

For a while I used to switch ammo depending on my shot, it tended to visibly lag at every switch at server peak times. I even got complete Freezes for several seconds if I spammed the macro. I haven´t tried it for quite some time tho, it might have changed.
If you want to give it a try insert a /equip <Cheap Ammotype Name> in front and /equip <Expansive Ammotype Name> after each shot where you want to switch to the cheaper ammotype. Obviously this doesn´t work with castsequences, so if you want to use one of those you´ll have to check if there's an working addon.

I use the following macro to ammo swap and cast Kill Command as much as possible. Never had any problems with it. If you don't want Kill Command just cut out everything before the first /equip. However a macro like this isn't going to work for a castsequence. Because all the shots are fired in a single line of code, there's no way to switch arrows for only one of the shots.

Just to be clear for the earlier poster- to achieve the desired effect you're going to have to manually time your shots. I'm not the best at programming macros, but from I've seen there's no way to pull this off in a castsequence macro.
