Damn! What the hell am I doing wrong, then, if I can't break 900 DPS on Gruul, in T4 and T4-equiv gear?
1. What spec are you?
2. Armory link please.
3. Any WWS for us to look at?
Use /Stopmacro command?
Is there a good way to work that into the macro itself or would I need to bind it to another key or have it on my bar to click? Also, would it cause a GCD to occur? While that's not particularly an issue with my HS and potion popping, it'd just be nice to know.
I have auto attack bound T, or right click. Do you know how if you are standing in range, you can right click the target and you will whip out your bow and start auto attacking? Well for some reason my guy whips out my axe, stands still and says "not in range" He WILL NOT fire the bow until I MANUALLY CLICK auto shoot, or if i use a special. What is the problem hear I CAN NOT Figure it out
I'm looking for some help with some spec troubles. I'm currently my guild's Expose Weakness hunter, and I'm finally getting to the point in my PvP career where staying EW for my weekly arenas just doesn't cut it any more. Being that I take Karate, have three jazz bands and a wind ensemble I play in, and piles upon piles of homework, I haven't got much time for anything aside from log on, raid, and get off. When I can, I of course do my daily quests and such, but that leaves me with only 70g to play with for repairs, pet food, flasks, pots, agil food, phat epix arrowz and the need to respec about three to four times a week. Does anyone have an idea of what I could do here, be it a really quick and snappy farming spot, a workaround to my spec, anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

There's an "auto attack/auto shot" option at the top of the page in the 'Interface' option panel.
Make sure it's checked if you want this behaviour.

Figure out where you can cut expenses and have the least impact on your enjoyment of the game. If raiding is your primary focus, you may have to live with doing Arenas in a sub-optimal spec.
I understand that Wolfslaying Sniper is the best raiding weapon for BM hunters but it seems that the Tuskbreaker with some haste gear might possibly be the new best weapon for BM hunters.
Has anyone done an analysis on this?

Reason: Change to pve ?
I understand that Wolfslaying Sniper is the best raiding weapon for BM hunters but I am curious to know if the Merc Glad and Veng Glad weapons will be better for PVP? I dont often use steady shot in arenas or BGs so Im thinking I should probably save up for the bow instead of buying veng glad armor.
Another thing i would like to consider too is maybe i should try to get into a ZA group for the Tuskbreaker and stack some haste rating gear to bring its speed down to the optimal level.
Simply put what will be the best PvP weapon/set-up for BM?
Wrong forum. Try the PvP forum for more about ideal set-ups for that part of the game.
So....I feign and keep getting attacked....is there ANYWHERE I can see where it gets resisted besides the mob still attacking me. Also, how long do I ahve to be laid out for it to fully take effect? I know it's no longer instantaneous.

You can get a mod which shows you more about what is going on in combat. Scrolling Combat Text (SCT) is a good one that will show you FD resists. As for the delay on FD, I've heard about this too but rarely experienced it. I use a macro like this:
/stopcasting
/cast Feign Death
It will interupt any steady shots or anything else I may be doing at the time and immediately FD. Any time I need to drop aggro I just hit this keybinding and keep spamming my DPS macro which is bound to the mouse wheel. The effect is I fall down for a split second and immediately pop back up with minimal DPS drop. I don't recall any particular instances where the FD failed to function, only times where it resisted. Maybe I'm just lucky.

1. It seems to be pretty agreed-upon that the aggro wipe, if it's not resisted, occurs after the animation has completed.
2. I believe your combat log should report FD resists. I haven't had mine on a separate window in a long time and I primarily just look to see if I died for a stupid reason or not, so I can't tell you for sure.
We just got into Hyjal last night and as per the strat suggestion, we're having a hunter kite a ghoul back toward the rifleman to get them to engage. I was that lucky hunter!
I was having two problems. First problem being that the footmen from the hill jump in and attack the mob and often hold him to that spot making it impossible to get him back far enough to get to the riflemen. Secondly, the times I was able to kite him back to the riflemen, they would then do the same thing: all gang up on the lone ghoul and work on killing him. The strats said I should be kiting them back to the aoe areas but there was just no way of moving the ghoul after the mobs aggroed him.
Can anyone offer some tips on this, or how you've found works best?
Thanks!

The combat log doesn't show feign resists by default - it might be one of the channels you can turn on though. If you're seeking more obvious feign resist notification, you could try FeignResistBell | Downloads (I've never used this myself).

Well, I've only been to Hyjal twice so far, but I've run into this problem as well. Every now and then some knights aggro the gould and i can't get it away. Now, there are two ways about this... either let the knights get into combat with something else, or have a tank snap taunt it off them and pick it up off him. Preferably the first, as tanks have enought on their heads already.
As for returning the ghouls to AOE, I, personally run them through AOE first, on my way to the dwarves, then, when he's been ganked, the dwarves just look for something else to bash.

The best thing to do is look at your kiting path, make the npc's chase the ghoul as much as possible. Go either far right, or far left, not right through the middle of them. Also for the first set of NPC's you can also try to let the npc's engage first then pull one of the ones in the back, as it will have fewer npc's on it. As far as the riflemen in the back same thing don't kite through there melee range where you can help it.
As far as shots I try to get arcane/distract/conc shot early, and the multi shots later on, doing jump shots along the way, and usualy don't have much of an agro issue, it can still drop agro from time to time you just have to peal it off, or wait for the npc to die.
Hyjal Ghoul KitingCan anyone offer some tips on this, or how you've found works best?

Simply put, you need to do more dmg while kiting your ghoul. What is happening is that, the alliance npc's are doing enough damage to out threat you. You need to do more dmg in on the initial pull, as well as keep your dps on the mob as high as possible while kiting.
A few useful tips that may help...
1. Have a frost trap down near the start of your kite so that you can stand still and run through a few shot rotations (while ghoul is slowed) to really build up initial agro at the beggining, before you have to turn and actually start kiting.
2. Use as many instants as possible while you are kiting. Arcane, distracting, even serpent sting...and take every opportunity you can to stutter step to get in some auto shots as well. You might also try dropping an immolation trap midway through the loop if your trap CD is up.
I had some issues in the begining kiting ghouls, I started laying an immolation trap down in the begining so the first ghoul that hit it would start heading my way and not to the prot pally and warriors who are just as fun to try to pull off of. If you lay your trap early enough your CD will be up durring your kiting and you can drop another. Just remember there are pulls with no ghouls and you dont want to have your priests crying that their banshee is dotted. If your using cheetah and concussive you shouldnt even need a frost trap.
Other than that just like everyone else was saying throw as many instant shots as you can. If the NPCs pull it off good luck getting it back I have had an aimed shot crit pull enough threat to take it off the NPC if im lucky but spamming distracting / arcane / multi etc. doesnt seem to work most of the time. You can have your pet attack it with taunt on and use intimidation then call it back to you when it gets aggro as well.
I have a question regarding Don santos vs. Sunfury bow. I am BM and use a 1:1 shot rotation, I have done some testing on Dr. Boom and Don santos seems to win out, any info you guys can give would help with the decision.

You´ve already provided the answer yourself. Don Santos is better as BM. To break it down quite simply: Speed wins. Also, the procc of Don Santos is awesome.

I'm using a version of FeignDeathResistBell for about 3 months now.
It's simply the best addon to make you aware of resisted FDs.
As the name of the addon says, you will hear a bell-sound if your FD was resisted.
A guildie told me that his version of LaVendetta BossMods makes a blood-red border around his UI when FD was resisted.
But I know, that there are other addons using the same red border to indicate you've got aggro.

Assuming you did mean pve, I've been trying to determine this myself. I have only played around with gear I can see reasonably soon (i.e. t5/ZA), and in that setting I've had no luck =(. Hyjal/BT gear, of course, could change this around. Unless someone chimes in with number crunching, I'd just play around with Cheeky's Spreadsheet. Let me know, by the way, if you have any luck. I cry putting the Ancient Sin'Dorei Longbow in my bags to bust out my trusty Kara weapon to raid.
Edit: I was going to post this in the survival boards as it has (to a certain extent) Survival specificity about it, but I'm also curious about marks. The guild I'm in consists of veterans reforming into a very small core. We blew through ZA (Alliance first on our server!) and are hoping to begin 25 mans this week. Considering that we have none atm, I've been thinking about stepping up to play Survival for EW--ok, ok. I want to use Zul'Jin's bow! Unfortunately, I haven't dabbled in Marks or Surv since Kara. What are Survival hunters doing for spec/rotations these days? I have seen 5/20/36 mentioned, and I'm assuming you go 1:1.5 and 1:1 when Quick Shots procs? What about 0/20/41? Solid 1:1.5?
The broader MM/survival question is about haste affecting non-BM shot rotations. Is it possible as Marks or Surv to stack enough passive haste (still maintaining necessary hit and respectable crit/ap) to get down to a fast enough speed for 1:1 rotations? I will, of course, troll through the last few pages of the survival page, but I haven't seen much discussion of marks lately, outside of 7/48/6. Thanks!
I'm writing this thread in order to recieve some advice regarding items, talents optimization i should go for, in order to achieve the maximum damage output for me and for the raid.
Right now, im playing with a classic BeastMaster build 41/20, which seems to be the best choice for the gear i have. Hopefully armory link will show up as I write this, and you should be able to check my gear.
*** the profile doesnt seem to be quite much updated, those talents are outdated (I'm 41/20 bm)
Recently I had concerns regarding my build as my output damage is heavily based on my pet. Maybe I shouldn't be concerned about this at all, but having played since the US release a hunter throught BWL/AQ/Nax I'd hope some day to get enough gear to spec back to some old fashioned talent build that permits me to not rely so much on my pet.
I made some tests and throught Cheeky's spreadsheet I tried to come down to some conclusion but I'm still full of doubts.
My guild progression is now stuck at Lady Vashj and Kael'thas. Yeah it's not hardcore, but i guess it's ok. Right now I havent had much problems managing my pet, still it's quite a stress to use "mend pet" and "revive" ability, mostly for 2 reasons. You waste mana, mend pet tick aint that great, and revive pet takes you about 1k mana. Healers sometimes throw a HoT or two on my pet but since there are bigger priorities than healing my pet, I can't really ask for healing.
I'll be short, Beast Master build 41/20 seems to be the best choice so far. You get top dps, and mana conserving is quite good. As I'm full devoted to pve, this is right now with my gear the best choice but I hate to depend on my pet.
I tried marksman spec, it sucks, its nothing like it used to be pre-TBC, even with good rotations/macros. This doesnt seem to be a viable spec, even if its burst dmg is quite ok. (I had switched to this build in order to see how it was against elementals during lady vashj fight, I hoped more burst damage would have helped a lot me taking down adds fast, since with a BM build, i couldnt pull the burst dmg to the max and most of the time i had my pet caught on lightnings and had to wait for it to reach my target to get some more dps)
So here we go, survival spec, here's where my doubts grow deeper. Looking at the talent tree, it's a agi based tree, you need a lot of crit and not too much mana, thrill of the hunt seems to be a good talent to save some mana during fights. I asked myself, if I manage to replace every single piece i have that doesnt give a contribute to my agility (chest, wrist, helm, rings, and offhand), is survival going to be the talent tree I look for?
I ran a test using Cheeky's spreadsheet. I imported my actual gear and replaced every non-agi-based item with agi items that my guild-pve progress allows me to get. Results were quite bad, lowest dps, even compared to MM and BM build (BM being n1 still). Is that the truth? I hope not and even if cheeky's test gave me some true "feedback" I can't rely on it since it's all theoric stuff.
So here we go, assuming I get the best hunter gear from SSC/TK is survival build a good choice? And what survival talent tree is best for pve?
0/20/41 ? 7/20/34 ? (no master tactician, heard it sucks, and readyness isnt much of help in pve-raid)
I hope i can get some good feedbacks, thanks for the read, and forgive my english grammar errors.
Make sure your pet is part of "the melee team". If your pet is always attacking the same mobs your rogues/warriors/enh. chamans/ret. paladins are, he'll receive some of the Chain Heals.
In SSC/TK, also make sure you spec your pet with appropriate resistances. (basically, Arcane/Fire for TK, and Nature/Frost for SSC).
It is funny you plan on collecting "the best hunter gear from SSC/TK" because your pet is too hard to keep alive, when the 2-pieces T5 set bonus actually makes your pet a survivor
With 2/5 T5 and the new pet's AI (not always great (Al'Ar for instance), but has its advantages), I removed Mend Pet and Revive Pet from my keybindings. I only marginally use them.
I'm pretty sure that with "best of T5" gear, BM will deal more damage than MM.
SV requires sort of a different itemization, and I like to think most raid leaders want one SV hunter for the benefits of EW, regardless of the fact it it less "efficient" than a BM hunter.

The problem isnt about "pet dying", it's just that during an encounter I usually have to keep my pet out of combat in order to have him "safe". Look leotheras for example, no way my pet is going to survive if it catches a whirlwind. Same goes if Lady Vashj decides to chain lightning my pet twice in a row (I still dont know if Vashj can effectively target and throw a lightning bolt at my pet, or its just my pet getting a chain-bolt from other people).
As you noted, the 2/5 t5 bonus is going to help a lot myself taking care of the pet, still I'm not totally satisfied at BM tree (but as I stated above, I take account that it's the best dps build atm).
Thats why I'm looking for new options. Survival seems to be the "best" alternative way to raid as a hunter. But I'm concerned a lot about the fact i might be getting huge nerfs to my dps If I go survival.(I'm aware of the great raid buff survival offers).
I'm writing this thread in order to recieve some advice regarding items, talents optimization i should go for, in order to achieve the maximum damage output for me and for the raid.
Greater variance in damage output comes from skill in managing your shot rotation than gear or spec. If you could link a few WWS parses we should be able to see if that's where your problem lies. Once you get your shot rotation down (for your spec) it becomes a lot easier to optimize gear selection.
Your progression is identical to what my guild is doing (5/6, 3/4). I can provide all our WWS logs for those fights if you'd like to see how I manage things. (I'm not the best Hunter in these forums, but I think my DPS output is satisfactory.)

I'll see what I can do during our next raid about that. Just to let you know already, at the moment I'm using this kind of "rotation" during fights: (I'm using macroes!)
and each time I get Bestial Wrath I pop trinkets and eventually rapid fire if available and fire:
/castsequence reset=6 Steady Shot, Arcane Shot, Multi-Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot, Auto Shot, Arcane Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot, Auto Shot, Steady Shot
/castrandom [target=pettarget, exists] Kill Command
Of course as I am in the need to move my position i usually cast Serpent Sting and Arcane shot if it's up.
Oh btw: took lady vashj down. Now one more problem to think about, Is serpent spine longbow an upgrade? I think not, since of the lower attack speed it has. But still it would be a pity to "ignore" that.
