And replace everything with blue's/craftebles/badge items.
As for the guild, I have yet to find myself a good guild. Unfortunatly everyone is looking for healers and tanks, and are full on DPS slots. Let alone a hunter... Is it any good that I out dps a frost mage in full gladiator/vindicator gear? I have no idea on that. But the guild that im kinda looking for is hopefully already working on Karazhan.
|
The fact you care about this at all puts you above lots of hunter's at 70!
Personally i wouldn't be obsessive about reaching the +to hit cap (some people may disagree), but trying to get to ~100 without nerfing yourself badly is a good plan. Things like gems can help, you can gem at +8 to hit, and change them to +8 ag (or whatever) as your itemisation improves.
Remember as well that the +hit mechanic is much more important on boss fights than on trash as they count as level 73 mobs, so it's quite possible to switch in different gear for boss fights. (I may be teaching you to suck eggs there - if so please excuse me.)
I can't recommend Cheeky's spreadsheet highly enough - the single best tool i've encountered for tuning a hunter:
http://elitistjerks.com/f31/t9816-hu...-_development/
You can run maths there to see how much another +10 to hit is worth in DPS on a boss and the like.
Oh - You shouldn't be able to out DPS a epic PvE specced and geared mage as a green/blue specced hunter, but if he's in glad/vindi gear he may also be specced primarily for arena. Don't worry so much about other people DPS, he may also of been very attentive to CC while you where simply doing pure DPS (for eg), or he may of been PWWTV (playing while watching TV).
Get a couple of more blue quest/drops with +to hit and start going for PUG Kara's, play well and you may get yourself into a guild that way.
(Oh - and a final note - if you are a LW - spec for dragonscale and make yourself the Ebon set, it's a really good and easy way of getting Kara/Gruul level epic gear.)

Here is the WWS from my 1st foray into Hyjal.
and my gear is on the armory(but I swap out some pieces so i can get around 130HR for bosses)
Wow Web Stats
My main question is this, I use the 3:2 Macro so I should get a ratio of Steady:Auto of 3:2 correct?
I was spamming the macro non-stop but the WWS shows that it is not exactly 3:2, any reason why?
|
There is an interaction between KC and Auto Shot that causes some autos to not fire thus pushing the rotation toward 3+:2. It looks something like this.

A couple of macros that might help some as well.
Freezing Trap
The stopattack and cleartarget will keep you from breaking your own CC.
/cast Freezing Trap
/stopattack
/cleartarget
Distracting Shot
Can be used against a CCed target without breaking it. Useful if you have had to feign death but need to maintain aggro on an ice trapped target.
/cast Distracting Shot
/stopattack
/cleartarget
Misdirection Macro
Set your focus to the MT by targeting them and typing "/focus"
#showtooltip
/cast [group,target=focus,exists] Misdirection; [target=pet] Misdirection
As to looking for a guild, making as few mistakes as possible will get you noticed. Most any Hunter can DPS well enough but things like not breaking CC, keeping your pet under control, Ice Traps in from of CCers to help them out, etc. will leave a good impression.

Thanks for that one Praxx, I'd never thought about the fact that since DS doesn't cause damage it could be used on cc'd targets...
That could certainly be useful for you on fights like Moroes in Kara Jizzo as Hunter's often end up chain trapping in there depending on raid make up.

So if a target is already CC-ed, and i shoot Distract shot? It will break wont it?
Im already trying my best to be situational aware, in the sense of defending my healer Generally speaking they really like it.

Moroes is a good place to make friends. The first time your Ice Trap placed between the CCers and their target catches Daris before he gets to the Priest that was shackling him you have made a sponsor in the guild.

No, distracting shot does no damage so it won't break CC.

I do something slightly different. I have a macro to set my focus (usually the MT and set at the beginning of the run), and one to assist the focus. Both are bound to mouse buttons. My DS macro is /cast Distracting Shot and /stopcasting, without the /cleartarget that the above has. So all I have to do is target my cc victim, hit my DS macro, punch my assist macro, cast Hunter's Mark and send pet to attack (both also in a single macro) and start firing while my cc target is still running towards my trap. Only takes seconds for all of the above to happen.

I posted this in the WoW Hunter Forums but I keep getting vague answers.
Question 1
What's the best ranged weapon speed for BM using 2:3 and/or 1:1? I have never seen a conclusive answer on this even though I have read the BM Hunter Guide from beginning to end.
Question 2
As an ex-rogue I used to use the table from Roguecraft 101 where it breaks down gear selection to DPS specific.
Tier 4 EP | 16/41+4 | 15/41/5 | 11/28/22 | 11/21/29
Strength | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00
Agility | 1.92 | 1.85 | 1.80 | 1.78
Atk. Power | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00 | 1.00
Hit Rating | 2.17 | 2.03 | 2.04 | 1.87
Crit Rating | 1.61 | 1.48 | 1.44 | 1.42
Exp. Rating | 2.39 | 2.26 | 2.37 | 2.20
Haste Rating | 1.91 | 1.97 | 1.79 | 1.72
Armor Pen. | 0.25 | 0.27 | 0.25 | 0.24
Meta Gem | 70.09 | 88.71 | 64.50 | 63.52
Is there something equivalent to this for Hunters? I keep finding items that I am not sure what will give me better DPS. Specifically I am looking at Crit vs Hit vs AGI. One of the ways I can do that is use Cheeky's spreadsheet and maybe fudge some items to see the difference in the overall DPS.
Perhaps a better question to ask is Cheeky how do you determine DPS when it comes to those stats?

Excellent!
I went home from work and set up a macro for when i wanted to keep agg on a Ice Trapped target with Distracting Shot that worked in the same way.
/cast [target=focus] Distracting Shot
This will allow you to keep DPSing your main target, and drop DS on your /cc target without having to shift targets. If you use a "Focus Potrait" type addon it will make life easier to keep track of your CC target as well.
I guess this is what it feels like to be a mage and spend your life sheeping. ;-)
As a note though - you don't need the /stopcasting now.

Depends on your personal numbers.
Cheeky's wonderful spreadsheet (tm) is the answer. Plug in your gear, set the mob to Level73 (the default now iirc) and switch between trinkets and see the effect on your DPS.
As a note i'd test [Abacus of Violent Odds] along side the ones you have listed, that tends to be better for DPS than some epic trinkets and is easy to get.

The shot macro can be simplified to:
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast Steady Shot
/cast [exists,target=pettarget] Kill Command
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()
The issue is that you need to spam this about 10 times a second or use Quartz and try to hand-time it. I've tried both ways, and the spamming (using a Nostromo keypad) is so much easier on my fingers (and gives me higher dps.)
I tend to reserve Intimidation for interrupting mob spells -- to blow it immediately seems like a bad idea.
Don't blow your cooldowns until Ferocious Inspiration is up. That'll also help you manage your aggro.
And most importantly of all -- make sure you are fully buffed and use consumables.
Use WWS to track dps, and use recount to track instant dps.
Good luck!

Sorry to come in here late and bring this up again, but I had a question about the bolded statement in the above:
Why is it necessary to activate this macro (which I am using) 10 times a second if the fastest I will get a shot is 1.5sec (prehaste of course)? I assume you are correct, I just want to understand. I have been using this macro, tied to my mouse wheel for some time, but I don't imagine that I am activating it more than 4-5 times a second using my current method of spamming. I want to be the best at what I do and the idea that I could be ekking out more damage is irksome to me.
Thanks in advance.

I'm BM for the week, and I have BB with 0 haste. After making my fingers beg for mercy manually spamming the 3:2 macro, I whipped out my n52.
With the n52, spamming the macro usually gives me a 2:1 rotation, but I found that removing my finger for ~2/3rds of a second every other steady turned the 2:1 into a 3:2. Perhaps laying off the macro momentarily every other steady will fix the rotation for you as well.

Most beneficial?
I've been trying to figure out through the spreadsheet but I cannot come to a conclusion due to my failure to use Cheeky's Spreadsheet.
My questions are as following, which gear will provide the best DPS, the T4 set with Relentless Earthstorm Diamond or a combined mixture of Zul'Aman and Karazhan / Badge gear?
My and my guild leader have been discussing this but cannot come to a conclusion.
Any help from the fellow experts here would be greatly apprecciated.

My question is related on how to be competitive on DPS meters in BT/Hyjal.
[1] If you are in a BT/Hyjal guild, how much AP, Crit, and Hit do you have?
[2] With what spec are these stats associated with?
[3] If BM, what pet are you using?
[4] If you are running WWS reports, what is your sustained DPS on fights like Teron and RoS?
[5] What type of shot rotation are you using?
Thanks for your input guys.

1. unbuffed = 1947 AP, 26.26% crit, 112 hit raid buffed = approx. 2350-2400 AP, 28.5-31% crit, 132 hit
2. BM hunter
3. Ravager (Bite priority/Gore secondary)
4. Last weeks Teron
Last weeks EoS
5. Currently testing the 3:2 rotation (58 haste rating)
My armory
Use Cheeky's spreadsheet to map out future upgrades, gem selection/config, enchant selctions, etc... The spreadsheet will show you a pretty accurate depiction of what your DPS should be on straight tank-n-spank fights.

This is a full t6 geared BM's stats approximately (with no haste gear)
1. Unbuffed (with hawk), 2200 AP, 141 Hit rating, 32,83% crit
2. Bm Hunter
3. Raptor
4. Our guild does not use wws Im afraid, but I've topped 2000 dps a few times with good group buffs (according to recount)
5. 1:1 auto/steady - Sometimes substituting steady with arcane+kc in a macro if Im on the move.

Basically, at some time t is the optimal time to activate the macro, let's say. You can either manually time this (good luck) and press the macro exactly at t, or you can press say every 0.1 second (10 times a second.) What that means is that, on the average, you'll press the macro at time t + 0.05 seconds (plus other times, but they don't count as they don't do anything.) If you press the macro slower than 10 times a second, then on the average you'll delay your press even more than the 0.05 second above. I limit my presses to 10 times a second as it's feasible for a human to press that fast, and so I can assume Blizzard's hardware and software won't be overwhelmed by the presses. In other words, pressing 100 times a second will probably cause something to break.

Be aware that Cheeky's spreadsheet does NOT model the haste effect of the abacus (as of v43.) You need to manually insert a haste of 22 in the adjustments section on the Gear page. (22 haste is 260*10/120 rounded up.) However, let me state that in testing with the 3:2 macro, I didn't get any additional shots off using the Abacus (but I did with a 1:1 macro.) So it's tricky. I'd insert the 22 so as not to undervalue the Abacus.
