The sheet is, in a way, doing it incorrectly. The meta-gem increases the critical strike damage by 3% and not the damage bonus by 3%.

It's a bit of a legacy problem the way it is implemented in the sheet.

Thing is, has it been tested whether it really is +3% of the total/final critical damage?

Is it possible that the pyro rockets could be added to the shot priority section on the Shot Rotation tab on a future version of the spreadsheet?

I did some tests on 2pcT9 serpent sting a page or two back that included arcane shot as a sanity check. The 6% in the spreadsheet is a bit of an odd way of doing it but the formula appears to be correct and matches actual data. The meta (chaotic) behaves the same way for everything I've tested with casters too. In other words, although perhaps not expressed in a very intuitive way, the spreadsheet is correct.

No, I am afraid I haven't performed what one might describe as rigorous tests. I foolishly placed my faith in the Blizzard tooltips...

The point was that the meta-gem tooltip states that it applies a 103% modifier to the overall critical damage:-

Anyway - I see Esoth's data, it does seem to match the spreadsheet at higher levels of MS. I might get a Fine Light X-bow and investigate.
As a side note, it looks like they've really scrambled things up on serpent sting crits

[Edit: - Yep, you're bang on, Esoth, got 1626 crits : 684 hits = 2.377. So much for item tooltips]

I believe there is an error in cell N77 on the Calculations tab. It says that it's the number of DPS lost from other shots during LnL procs, but it is being added into the DPS gained from the explosive shots. Shouldn't this cell be negative?

Edit: Also, with the changes to explosive trap in 3.3, would it be possible to model this in the same fashion as immolation trap? With some initial testing on the 3.3 PTR, explosive trap has a 100% chance to proc LnL on the initial explosion. The DoT getting 100% of our RAP into damage seems like it would do quite a lot of damage over the 20 seconds.

Currently the most time consuming part of upgrading to a new spreadsheet version for me is filling out the Gear Optimizer sheet. Is there any chance of that sheet making it into the Import/Export system at some point?

Edit: Turns out you can copy/paste those values from the old spreadsheet into the new one, reducing the time involved significantly, so this may not be necessary.

Spreadsheet request

When entering in the fight length we can only enter whole numbers, would it be possible to enter the fight length in minimum increments of 30 seconds? The reason I am asking is because I can only last 1.5 minutes on a target dummy before I go oom and I would like to see what my dps should be at, but I can only enter in a 2 minute fight. Also would it be possible to break down the number of shots for each individual shot that was used in the Hunter Damage Distribution section? For example, how many auto shots were shot, how many explosive shots, etc. Also could the percentage of crits of each type of shot be added? I would like to know how much my explosive shot should be critting and compare it to what I am getting in recount.

In Sheet v92a there is an update line:
- If you have Marked For Death talent, Steady Shot always gains the bonus 10% damage from Glyph of Steady Shot.

What exactly does this mean?

Actually I'm MM skilled and got Glyph of the Hawk, Steady Shot and Serpent Sting. The sheet is telling me that these are the best glyphes for me for al long time. Today I checked again if something has changed, because I got some new gear this weekend. If I'm changing the Steady Shot Glyph against Chimera Shot I'm gaining a good DPS boost. I think the reason is the change in line with Marked for Death, but I'm not gaining the sense. Steady Shot Glyph will raise the DMG of Steady Shot by 10% while Serpent Sting is on the target. Marked for Death increases the crit strike damage bonus of Steady Shot by 10%. Could someone explain the change to me?

Marked For Death is bugged and also provides the same bonus as the Glyph of Steady Shot does. The spreadsheet was recently updated to model this behavior.

Just as a heads up to quite a few people out there. I've had a number of requests about expanding the Gear Planner to take in consideration talent changes (most notably Focused Aim).

I've not replied to all of those PMs (I also don't reply to any 'help my dps' PMs, please don't send em), but I've not forgotten them.

Doing this isn't quite a trivial change (unless you really just pick 1 or 2 talents to put/take points in/from and hardcode these in). Also, representing the changes on the Gear Planner in a way that's both simple and intuitive is a challenge too, I don't really want to make the tabs wider/bigger than they are now.

As an aside:
I'll see about implementing the Meta-Gem bonus in the way suggested for the next release. It's a small change but it's always irked me we had to approximate it.

I can not get the heroic 258 gear to come up in the Gear Planner. The 258 ilevel gear that I have comes up zero and the highest upgrades I see are 245. The 258 gear does come up in the Gear tab. I do have the button clicked for Heroic Raids. What am I doing wrong, it has to be something simple?

This is a bit of a problem as the consensus, I believe, is that once you're filled out the base MM ArP build, there are some points that can float between FA, Imp HM, ISS, RR and Imp Barrage. The exact place to put those points is the question and depends on hit coming from gear and whether or not other hunters have Imp. HM. To be complete, Trueshot is a floater point depending on your raid makeup although it seems nearly every MM hunter takes that point.

There is also the issue of having an "illegal" build which would have to be disallowed somehow.

No one knows when or if Blizzard will fix it. However consider it a buff for now because it allows you to choose another glyph instead of Steady Shot.
