This happened to me tonight. It took me a couple of trash pulls to figure out why my DPS was down so I modified my Revive / Call / Mend macro by adding the last 3 lines.
/cast [modifier:ctrl] Revive Pet; [nopet] Call Pet; [modifier:shift] Feed Pet; Mend Pet
/use [modifier:shift] Mead Basted Caribou
/petautocaston Rabid
/petautocaston Furious Howl
/petautocaston Bite
/petautocaston Dash
Then I keep Growl / Cower on the pet bar and handle those myself.

One question please:
I am running outland instances for other lower level people. I was wondering what the best aoe pet is. I was thinking either a crocodile or a bear. I still don't know which one is better though.

I personally prefer a bear over a crocolisk, mostly due to the almost non-existent CD on swipe. Remember to spec into Thunderstomp as well. It's been nerfed but every little bit helps

I use a bear as well, but one thing you have to understand is: AoE threat from your pet is very low anyway, no matter what pet you take (bear is the superior pet in that department though), so don't go all crazy on AoE. Thunderstomp and Swipe/Bad Attitude will only help your pet getting initial aggro, and more importantly lets you use Mend Pet without having to worry about pulling aggro from the mobs (2xt5 heals give 0 threat to you).

How useful is Rawr for hunters? Does the maintainer keep up with theorycraft? Does it converge with spreadsheets and sims? Are its models for trinkets and tier bonuses accurate?

Various people have told me that BM is the fastest levelling spec (from level 1), and the info in this thread seems to support that. Trouble is I find the playstyle rather boring. With the focus so much on the pet I feel like I'm just along for the ride. How much slower will a MM build level? Is there a significant difference in downtime, DPS or survivability?
I'm using heirloom shoulders and the heirloom gun if that makes any difference, so I'll be ahead of the gear curve most of the way.

Well it is the easiest because it allows you to solo more elites than in other specs (so yes, survivability for the pet). It's also nice since you can sit back and relax while your pet does half the work. Also, when I leveled from 70-80 I noticed getting a lot of agro when I specced out of BM, however this might be less of a problem if you're not in tier 6.

According to their site, the hunter module is still under construction. I dowloaded the newest version a few days ago to play with, and it was ok. It, however, doesn't appear to do well with trinkets. I have read that it doesn't take procs into account.
In other words, from what I understand, use with caution

I have been looking for about a good hour as to where I can find the hunter abbreviations for shots. There seems to be a specific format that everyone uses on this forum, and despite using the search forum and reading countless posts, I'm unable to find it.
I would appreciate if someone could link me or direct me to where I might find these abbreviations.
Thanks.

Hey I recently decided I wanted to switch over to PvP. Can someone please give me a link or tell me where I can find an up to date guide to PvPing with the Marksmanship tree and the Survival tree? And could anyone tell me which is the better choice currently?
Thank you,

i was checking out the 3.2 patch notes and the hunter changes really seem like a raiding dps nerf to me. is this what everyone else is seeing? if not please explain. i don't understand why blizzard would do this after they saw our dps problem after 3.1 and had to up ranged weapon base dps. is their goal to reinvent/revive trap dancing?
i realize this question is not exactly "simple" but i didn't know where else to put it

Maybe I'm looking at an old version of the patch notes, but I don't really see much that amounts to much of a nerf, apart from possibly the LnL changes. I see nothing that would promote the revival of trap dancing.

As mentioned, the problem with mm or surv is you are constantly getting threat and simple fights can get annoying. On the other hand, with BM, you can make it far from boring by pulling multiple mobs of higher level than you, clearing out entire camps and maximizing xp. And I almost always would send my pet off to start a new fight while i looted. Zero downtime and really smooth. With marks you simply be out of mana too often. Surv. will likely be the same problem.

OK, I swear I have spent an hour trying to get help with this and haven't found anything concrete. Last night I noticed that when the target of my hunter died in an instance I shot another, untargetted, mob. It happened to be one that was crowd controlled and it just about caused a wipe. I have seen this happen multiple times now and I am afraid to take my hunter around the public as I might endanger lives. Am I missing something? I did find something saying that this was a known bug but that was from a nine month old post on another forum.

The bug was fixed, or so it seemed, but has come back with the recent patch. As far as I know the only way to work around it is to disable 'Attack on Assist', disable 'Auto Attack/Auto Shot', and enable 'Stop Auto Attack'. Doing this seems to fix the problem, at least for me.

The spreadsheet will give the best answer for you, but in general gem Agi for MM unless you can get to the "soft" ArP cap, around 550, and have one of the ArP trinkets, e.g. [Grim Toll] or [Mjolnir Runestone]. If you don't have an ArP trinket, there is still some debate around when/if it makes sense to swap to ArP instead of Agi gems.
This thread may also be useful.

My DPS Need Some TLC Help
I need some help!!
Here’s the back ground, I’m an ex warrior tank from the BC day’s, turned when WOLK came out I switched to DPS class an easy one I thought….hunter … I solo leveled him to 80 it was a nice and calming experience zero stress… I have since started raiding again and I was doing ok with the guild I was in.. we were doing nax 10 man ect … and my dps was ok or so I thought.. I got to a point were I was getting really ready to move on so I changed realms to apply with a true raiding guild.. So their raid uldar 25man which is cool I getting to see new things BUT.. I’m not really having any fun, more stress than anything.. I’ve gotten new gear and what not but my DPS is still low and according to Rawr & the work sheet on EJ I should be pumping out the DPS BUT….for some reason it’s not happening, I’ve been reading a EJ forums on class mechanics and adjusted my shot priority to “KS,ES,SS, AS & Steady Shoot” rotation and using a UI called watcher to help out . BUT my DPS is still low.. I admit that I do spam keys out of habit from being a warrior tank, and I’ve been chatting with a druid friend and he doesn’t really spam keys.
I‘d like to know what the trick is to gain the DPS the modeling programs predict
I really need some constructive input “kinda feel like a blind man try to shoot and hit a target and everyone’s complaining but no-ones pointed me in the right direction.

Your DPS in most raid situations will be significantly lower than that predicted by the spreadsheet. The spreadsheet assumes a stand up and tank-and-spank fight where you can perform your rotation perfectly, etc. Any movement decreases DPS by (1) stopping Autoshot from firing and (2) stopping you from casting Steady Shot (along with other smaller effects). As such, you should not expect immediately that your DPS will match that of the spreadsheet on anything but, say, Patchwerk. This is especially true of many Ulduar fights, which are movement intensive.
You do want to make sure you are sticking close to the shot priority, as firing a lower DPS shot when a higher DPS shot is available is of course a DPS loss. There are also instances where you will want to wait for a shot to come off cooldown rather than start firing another shot (e.g. if ES comes off cooldown in 0.4 seconds, you should probably not start shooting a Steady Shot).
TL;DR: Don't expect to get the DPS the spreadsheet indicates. It only applies under ideal conditions.

Improved Tracking Question
I searched around the thread, and couldn't find this specifically addressed anywhere.
Is the damage bonus from improved tracking only for what is being tracked at the time, or does it apply to all mob types as long as some form of tracking is up?
I've seen references to either being true, and I'm not seeing any references to prove it either way. The tooltip itself seems to refer to the former possibility, but isn't terribly clear.
