I have another "pet sticking" question. Has anyone else experienced their pets standing around doing nothing on Grand Widow Faerlina? Is this part of the fight? My cat freezes right when we engage Faerlina, and he comes to my side as soon as she dies.

I have never seen anything like this on Grand Widow Faerlina -- it is definitely not part of the fight. I generally have my pet on defensive, but if yours is bugging out, it might work to start with it on passive and then manually send it in. Has this happened every time you go there, or just once?

It happens every time. He usually freezes near the location of first small trash group. I have paid attention to it each time, and I have noticed a group of pets there on several occasions, i.e. a lock minion and another hunter's raptor. I generally keep my pet on passive in dungeons as a rule to keep him from pulling out of turn and send him in manually with Ctrl-1 bound to my a mouse button. Do you think dismissing him before the fight and recalling him after engaging Faerlina would work?

It's worth a try -- I have to do that with Gluth, and I think many hunters have that problem on Gluth and VoA too.

I believe the pet issues on faerlina are pathing issues involving the web she closes the room with at the start of the encounter. I've experienced it myself and as soon as the tank gets the boss away from the webbing the pets get back to work on her.
It's actually been a few weeks since I've had an issue on the fight however.

I have seen this issue periodically with other people's pets, with it happening to me this past raid. I recalled the pet to me and it teleported over to my side. I then sent it in onto the boss and it went without any other issues. If the pet gets stuck, it seems to be in the same spot, so just watch to be sure your pet isn't standing over there. If it is, recall and resend.

I've gone and updated the first post for 3.1. As I understand it, one point in shark attack is superior to a point in wild hunt for most hunters. It is a rush job because I'm at work, but if I'm missing anything (I haven't played anything but SV since patch 3.0.8, so I'm looking at you, beastmasters), please PM me. Don't reply to the thread unless it's something that would benefit everyone.
Edit: I did a quick spreadsheet test over lunch, and it looks like wild hunt > shark bite, at least with BiS T7 gear, and since wild hunt scales, I put that into the spec.

Further to Celf's answer a LONG time ago, back in Vanilla pets kept kept various features from the individual mobs they tamed, attack speed, run speed, doing shadow damage, and the like.
It's possible they were cofused over that - but this was a long time before we could tame Chimaeras.
Nowadays, to be honest, your main criteria for taming (unless you want a certain skin) is which is the highest level version of the mob in question, because if you can tame a creature level >75 you can avoid the need to level them all the way.
For example I picked up a Level 80 Wolf last night ready for today and he was ready to raid after two chunks of meat!

The answer is gear dependent. See the spreadsheet for your personal answer

Both abilities scale but ill run my gear throught the spreadsheet and see what i get. At a glance it seems like u would need alot of AP for 1pt in wild hunt to give a dps increase greater or equal to 3% of your pets total dmg.

You're just determined not to actually read threads aren't you. Yes, the wolf looks like the highest DPS pet for all non-BM builds due to the stacking AP buff

For my gear (just few pieces away from BiS t7.5) 1pt in Wild Hunt yields about 8-9dps more than 1pt in Shark Attack. Tho that might be true only for survivals (33% of pet's stamina increases AP too).

I am seeing using the current 3.1 PTR spreadsheet Wild Hunter being about 6 dps higher then shark attack. I took shark attack before double checking on it, but for the moment I don't think I'll spec out of it.
I haven't theory crafted it yet but I am curious what will be better once we potentially lose the T7 2p bonus.

The 2t7 bonus shouldn't affect the relative usefulness of either.
Shark attack is 3/6 % increased damage * 105%
Wild Hunt is 2,2/4,4% more AP transfered * 105%
If one is better with 2t7, it is also better without - if all other relative stats stay the same. Since losing the 2t7 bonus invoolves getting gear with a different stat distribution it might change (or not) depending on the stat distribution.

In Uldar, has anyone had any problems getting their pet to engage Kologarn?
My pet spent the whole fight doing nothing at all, even with aggressive stance on.

When we killed him earlier this week in 25-man, my pet didn't attack anything until the right arm died. It stopped attacking every time the right arm was up. However, they hotfixed pets on this fight. Yesterday, my pet dpsed just fine in 10-man.

Anyone can help me with how to keep my pet alive at mimiron p1/2/4? I find it extremely hard to do so and never managed to keep my pet alive. Someone who did mimiron has some suggestions what to do?

P1 and P4, use the DBM timers and a '/petfollow /cast Dash' macro to pull your pet out of the Shock Blast when it starts casting. In P2, make sure you keep Mend Pet up all the time, the Heat Wave does some serious damage to pets.

p1: pull it out when he casts his explosion, shouldn't be a problem. In the rare case it gets hit by the fire dot, there's nothing you can really do but that only happens if it stands near the player who gets hit, doesn't really happen often.
p2: pull it out during laser barrage, rest of the phase it should be fine because it automatically dodges the guns by running behind the mob. the nova+dot didn't seem to cause a problem with some stray AE heals and maybe a mend pet here and there
p3: No danger of it dieing there I think.
p4: Honestly I didn't bother too much about my pet on the first kill, there's enough other things going on to care about so I just make sure I cast CotW before it dies . I try to pull it out during explosion and barrage, but usually I don't react quickly enough as I don't see the castbars of those parts. It can't attack the same part as me anyway so sending it back to attack one of the other parts is even more hassle.
