Thanks for your quick replies. With p1 the problem isn't really the explosion but the bombs that lay around. When i call my pet back it runs straight through them and died. In p2 dont know what dmg it got but could not be handled by mend pet. Healers didnt pay attention to my pet cause there are more important things for them to do. In p3 i had no problems and in p4 i think we had some "bugs" the barrage thing just went to random people, doubt that this is intended.

Pets don't trigger mines...at least they didn't for us. If your pet is taking damage from mines, it might be because someone else triggered them and your pet was close by. I am not entirely sure about that either. I do not see my pet taking any mine damage at all in our WWS, even during learning attempts when melee blew up the mines.

The issue I had was on p2. For some reason, it got one shot during Laser Barrage even if it was behind it on a few attempts. I was just recalling it after that and was able to keep it alive that phase. In p4, we noticed that he was doing Laser Barrage and Shock Blast at the same time. So, it was easier to manage the pet.

Wolves do a moderate of amount of dps, obviously not as much as a cat but they have [FuriousHowl] which post-patch now does an AP boost equal to that of its level ONLY to it and the master where pre-patch used to be a boost for the entire party/raid and did not stack with Might. So if you need an AP boost, wolves are the way to go. I still bring mine along to raids every now and then just to mix it up.

pet question... I notice when I dismiss my pet at 100% health, when I summon it, it only has 50% health. somewhat less actually (my 80 lvl ferocity pets come back with 6500 health). Also, when I feed pet, timer goes for 10 secs, pet only gets 3500 health from a 13200 health food item. Is this normal? have I just not noticed this? very odd. As for the food, the tooltip says 13200 over 30 seconds, meaning 440 a tic, if feed pet has 10 tics, why doesn't it get 4400 health in 10 tics.

When you first summon a pet, it is summoned at its base stats, and then talents and carryover stats from you are then added to the pet. This results in a very brief moment where it seems like it's at half life, when it's actually just not been fully recalled.

Feed pet is about happiness, not healing. Feeding a pet does not natively heal a pet -- mend pet is there for that, and bandages.

Correct. Pets do not trigger mines in P1. It might be others blowing up mines, but my pet hasn't taken any damage from mines ever. Even when melee has died running through. Perhaps, the pet is not being pulled out fast enough for Shock wave. It is very easy to prevent shock wave damage, simply watch the Leviathan's cast bar and pull it back immediately. There is a DBM option that isn't on as default that announces Shock wave just as it does Lava Wave in OS. Also have Dash turned on. Shock wave has a rather short range, so you will most likely be able to send you pet back in before it gets to you depending on your location in relation to the Boss. You pet can get Napalmed if at your side when it hits you.

As far as P2 goes. I have not had any issues having my pet die from barrage. However he has died from Rocket Strike in this phase from melee quite a bit. I personally prefer to keep my pet at my side during the most of this brief phase, sending it in for about ten- fifteen seconds at a time between rockets when safe.

Pets on Yogg-Saron

Unfortunatly I didn't get many chances on phase 2 of the fight to test a theory. The strat has ranged dps killing the large tenticles and leaving them untanked for the most part. My question is, if a tank isn't in melee range, will it attack and kill a hunter pet?

My thought is that scruffy will get whacked, but I couldn't confirm this last night. Can someone confirm or deny?

As a backup my plan is to bring my wind serpent out of retirement and just have it LB spam.

Yes, it will whack your pet. I've ended up just unsummoning my pet at the end of P1 since it seems to die randomly to nearly everything in P2, even stuck at my side.

If your pet is attacking crushers it will instantly be killed. The best pet is to send it onto constrictors, those seem to be the best for not killing your pet. However, you do have to keep an eye out because you pet will be targeted by corruptors for poisons etc...

An interesting point that occurred when I was doing Yogg, a guild hunter was using a Cunning pet in phase 3. Yogg is at 30% health. The damage his pet put out during this phase was pretty nice, something on the order of 40-50 dps higher than my wolf. I was also suffering from considerable problems with mana consumption, which he did not have to concern himself with via roar of recovery. Overall, it seemed a decent pet to choose for the fight.

Has anyone tested out wasps after 3.1? That 5% armor reduction sounds nice given the changes to armor pen. Does it stack or not stack with certain abilities?

Sting does not stack with druid Farie Fire, so the value of a wasp pet is dependent on whether you raid with non-resto druids.

Sting (Wasp) is a minor armor reduction debuff, and does not stack with:
- Curse of Weakness (Warlocks)
- Faerie Fire (Druids)

Look, Lactose, we'd rather you didn't eradicate the whole human race.

In my experience, locks don't usually cast curse of recklessness- they can only cast one per target and they generally have something else in their rotation.

Pet Dps?

Hey guys, was hopin to gain some insight about pet dps..

Current SS is sayin that my cat should be doin a bit over 1200 dps, full raid buffs....last 25nax i ran he barely managed 700 dps, lol....

My gear and spec: The World of Warcraft Armory

Not sure if the SS is just way off, or if something is goin wrong with my pet.
All abilities off, cept his attack abilities and I save special(CoW) for Boss fights and normally hit it under heroism...

My gear is pretty good at this point, not BiS yet, but good...this baffles me that my pet is "suckin" according to the SS.

I do understand that the SS is theoretical under "perfect" circumstances, but should I be missin over 500 dps from my pet? I just don't get it, please anyone with insight respond and thx. in advance!!

There are plenty of things that could change your pet's dps.

The most important one right now is - do you have 2/2 Go For the Throat? Due to a bug, fixed next mini-patch, explosive shot criticals do not proc that talent. Your pet will be focus starved if you only have 1/2 gfft because the only shots that give gfft procs are now auto, steady, aimed, kill, multi, and those combined together is something like 0.5 - 0.7 shots per second (explosive shot itself is 0.5 shots per second), all with a lower crit rate than explosive.

Secondly, when you say "last 25nax", do you mean the entire run or just patchwerk? If over the entire run, that's completely understandable because you don't have the heroism uptime of a normal fight, you don't have all debuffs/buffs running for trash mobs, and your pet has travel time to reach each mob.

Finally, very few hunters actually use pet food to increase their damage. You could check that as well.

Thanks for quick response.

Yes, I'm 2/2 in Gftt.

That was over the whole run.

I use pet buff food 100% of the time..

So it seems I might just need to check the dps on certain "ideal" fights.

Has anyone else been using the duel spec to grab different pets under the half hour timer; for example, let's say i'm running a Marks spec in a raid and i've done two fights and have used the pet i brought and remote stabled and got another one for the next fight. I switch to BM and back to marks, and grab the first one because i like it for the third boss fight.

Also I've used it to respec my pet for different boss fights by taking a non exotic pet that i might like to use, switch to BM run up the talent points and respec back to marks. It dumps all the talent points so i get to respec the pet to say, give him more health or maybe better dps or maybe i don't need the dps so I spec him for lick wounds and heart of the phoenix because i know this fight it's riskier for him. Just curious.

In retrospect I don't do it as often as the post might indicate, but i have found it useful from time to time to tweak the wolf's or wasp's spec as marks to tailor it to the type of fight coming up.

That's a neat trick wolfiestyle. I knew that if you had a BM specced pet with extra talent points switching back specs would give you a full refund of talent points, but I didn't know that switching specs also reset the cooldown on call stabled pet.

Pet DPS specs
I am currently having an argument with a guildie trying to figure out the best spec for our Wolves. She is Marks and I am survival and we're debating the best talent setup

Mine is:
2/2 Cobra Reflexes
1/1 Dash
2/2 Bloodthirsty
3/3 Spiked Collar
3/3 Spider's Bite
3/3 Avoidance
1/1 Call of the Wild
1/1 Rabid

Hers is:
2/2 Cobra Reflexes
1/1 Dash
2/2 Bloodthirsty
2/3 Spiked Collar
3/3 Spiders
3/3 Avoidance
1/1 Call of the Wild
1/1 Rabid
1/2 Wild Hunt

So my question is under the talent Wild Hunt does the 10% more AP contribute to the total amount of AP Hunters buff their pets with or does it multiply? eg. If the hunter contributed 30% AP to the pet would it be 10% more = 40% or contributing 10% more x the 30% = 33%? If the first example is the case than is that talent more beneficial than the 3% more damage given by Spiked Collar? aka is 10% more AP more damage than 3% more damage, im not sure on the pet ratios how much AP =s 1DPS

I had to move this thread so I know its a repost.

If you have it on auto-cast your pet should optimize focus usage in order to always keep it active, unless I'm mistaken? Especially since the focus cost is lower than Bite.

My tip would be to try having it on auto-cast and monitor its uptime.

I ahve it on auto cast and i also have it macroed to my SS but still sometimes I see my pet having 60 focus and not using it for a long period of time, sometimes he drops it 2 or 3 times per boss fights wich is a huge loss of DPS.
