So I'm a bit confused, I went MM before getting Mjolnir Runestone. I was topping the charts but as soon as I added the Runestone and capped my armor pen, I went down big time. I've checked out a few hunters with the stone and they now have gone back to Surv and gemmed with Agility. Is that the way to go now or am I screwing something up?

*added note: I just went back to Surv and put all Agility gems back so I'll see how that goes. Hopefully, I'll figure it out before I run out of epic gems, lol

i noticed the same problem got my runestone last week. Its like the arp cap doesnt make any diffrence, i tested the dps on a dummy and it was like 500 less then before.

Tonight we will go raiding some stuff i hope my dps will be better then on the dummy.
im currentle gemmed with arp gems atm i have 580 passive, wanted to try changing some arp gems to agi but im out of epic gems..

anyway i hope someone can help us out with that runestone problem.

Spent 15 minutes testing on the target dummy and testing Mjolnir runestone against Fury of the five flights (the only other trinket i had spare), i was simply using autoshot for this test and made the test 5 minutes long for each. My results for the runestone was around 1084dps, where as the five flights trinket showed only 953dps.

Since i gem agility and take ArP passively on gear i am only at 382 ArP and 1047 ArP with proc, and i did notice the shot hitting for alot more during the Mjolnir proc.

Now i am aware results will alter with a full rotation, however this test and purpose of posting the results is to show i have not found any problem with runestone proc and the ArP affecting my dps.

However i am not capped upon proc, could anybody else give some feed back on the ArP cap?

Glad to see I'm not the only with this problem. Sadly, the night I ran with the stone, I didn't get reports. But, I did base my damage on how I normally end up after a boss. We killed all bosses from Iron Council until General which at that time, the raid was over. Not a single boss fight did I beat out any of our hunters which before as MM with pure agility and fury trink I was not only on top but just behind our rogue in damage. Again, this was before the last patch. After the patch I gemmed to cap armor pen, did the run and failed in damage (not that badly but enough to bug me). Tonight, we start a new run and I'll see how I do in Surv with the stone and agility gems.

Subcore, looking at your armory you don't appear to be hit capped. Did you take out a hit trinket for the new one?

4.79% + 2% (focused aimed) = 6.79%

You are sitting 1.21% under the cap.

I changed my spec to Surv. added points into focused aim so at raid with buffs I'm capped.

In my 3.2 BiS preliminary gear sets as a troll, the 91a Spreadsheet (with custom gear) shows:

MM (ArP softcap) => 10892.10
MM (ArP hardcap) => 11111.78
SV (normal gear) => 10329.99

Now for SV, the calculation tab shows the Net DPS gain from Lock and Load at a 6% proc chance from Black Arrow to be 493.23.

Assuming that the new Lock and Load proc chance is somewhere around 15%, that would be an additional 739.85 DPS.

Adding that to the SV number puts it up to 11069.84, just 41.94 DPS behind even an ArP hardcapped MM build.

In my opinion, I hope that this stays true because it would make SV and MM builds both very competitive and would allow hunters to manage high DPS while playing the spec best suited for their play style or the fight. Now of course this still leaves BM out of the loop, but at least there may be a niche for it somewhere in the Icecrown Citadel >.>

While I do not have the spreadsheet at the moment. I have been fiddling around with the web based version supplied at Zeherah's Hunter DPS Analyzer

In my experimentation I have found that dual wield yields a 10-15 dps increase over using the polearm. Has anyone else found something similar with the spreadsheet.

Grim toll and Mjolnir aren't modeled very well in the spreadsheets. You never actually hit the hardcap in the spreadsheet with the two trinkets, and since ArP has exponential gains as you near the hard cap, this severely hampers dps

I'd say the two ArP dps numbers you have for marks are much lower than they should be

I am seeing an increase of 95dps when switching to 2H weapon of the same item level (Archon/Hellion Blade - Heroic) there. You sure you didn't test it with normal mode polearm?

If the itemization points are distributed correctly, a 2H should almost always be better than 2x1H of equal item level for us hunters. This is because 2H gives us more itemization points than 2x1H: according to Item Level Mechanics, 1H weapons have a stat modifier of 27/64. Two times this comes up to only 54/64 = 0.84, quite a bit less than 1.00 of 2H weapons. Extra 20 AP (10 itemization points) from the enchants was not enough to counter this at Ulduar gear level (I did some calculations about it back there, ilevel 232 2Hs have 437 itemization points, 2x1H only 371), it most certainly is not enough at Coliseum hard mode level.

Dual wielding should only be better if the DW weapons are of higher item level than the 2H they are compared with.

I did forget to post the [Mjolnir Runestone] adjusted SV value (and I linked the wrong MM softcap number here but posted the correctly adjusted one on the last page). This would be the comparison taking into consideration the ArP procs being modeled correctly. The MM hardcap build had 1224 passive ArP and therefore doesn't use [Mjolnir Runestone]

MM (ArP softcap) => 10955.10
MM (ArP hardcap) => 11111.78
SV (normal gear) => 10381.88

Now for SV, the calculation tab shows the Net DPS gain from Lock and Load at a 6% proc chance from Black Arrow to be 496.92. (This is the adjusted average for time with/without the proc)

Assuming that the new Lock and Load proc chance is somewhere around 15%, that would be an additional 745.37. (bringing SV up to 11127.25, actually just ahead of hard capped MM with ArP)

Rapidly checked and with latest version (91b) I can get up to 10'038 DPS as MM with ArP softcap and Mjolnir, gonna post setup if no one manages to get more in a while (note that 91b doesn't include all tribute/hm loot though).

Spreadsheet version 91b seems to be quite broken at the moment giving wrong results.

Even thou this thread is named "Best Possible DPS in Shanderas WotLK Spreadsheet"
thus giving us a possibility for interpretation, I'm sure the numbers were meant to hold true ingame too.

Got the 11154DPS as Orc, same I had with 91a ( lil's arp gear).
With lil's SV gear (I changed the gems in the boots to 2x 20agi) I reached 10268DPS as 4/16/51, with 2/18/51 and hawk glyph (aimed traded for multi) I reached 10277DPS (+3 in improved stings).

You have to be careful with pet food and the "shot rotation test" (time to wait is 0,8s there insteed of 0,5). And using the yellow 10Agi 10Crit only pays of if the socket bonus is 4agi or higher...

I can confirm a ~3 DPS increase from 2x [Delicate Cardinal Ruby] in place of 2x [Deadly Ametrine] in boots for SV and losing the +6 Agi socket bonus.

However, it was a ~7 DPS decrease for MM (softcap from gear) to attempt the same switich.

The MM (hardcap from gear) build already had 2x [Fractured Cardinal Ruby] in those yellow sockets.

I can also confirm ~8 DPS increase by changing 4/5 Imp AotH, 1/1 Aimed Shot, and 0/3 Imp Stings with Aimed Shot in the shot rotation to => 2/5 Imp AotH, 0/1 Aimed Shot, and 3/3 Imp Stings with Multi-Shot in the shot rotation.

I personally am not going to make that switch as I don't believe gaining ~8 maximum theoretical DPS worth losing the utility of the instant cast Aimed Shot in an actual encounter.

Likewise, I have 1 point talented into Trueshot Aura in both of my MM builds which could be placed in Efficiency (which actually doesn't show a DPS increase anyways) to ensure 100% uptime of TSA. There are a few situations where a Shaman's Unleashed Rage or a Death Knight's Abomination's Might will not have 100% uptime do to having to switch targets or possible encounter effect stunning/killing them or forcing them more than 40 yards from you. Even another Hunter with TSA might have to take a portal in Yogg-Saron when you don't or something forcing them more than 40 yards from you.

I know the switch from aimed to multi is a bit risky but I wanted to try 3/3 imp Stings (30% more dmg on serpent and serpent crits).
Btw if LnL is a 421 Net DPS change (=6%) and the contemporary chance is somewhat around 15% ( +630DPS) SV just reaches around 10900DPS. So it seems like MM is a little bit ahead, especially on all those non-movement encounters in CC -_-

okej Ive been reading some pages now and I cant find/understand this. Is it worth removing arcane shot from my rotation if I get to 557 arp? when I resocket I have to socket 6 slots with arp instead of ag and will loose much ag. Is it worth it (I dont have MR yet).

I have 1 yellow socket, Mantle of the Fiery Vengeance, currently sitting at 53.00% crit/8067dps/1989agi on 91b socketed with the Deadly Ametrine. Switching to Delicate Cardinal Ruby gives me 52.82% crit/8064dps/2000agi.

A dps drop of 3 from using the Delicate Cardinal Ruby over the Deadly Ametrine. Although it's more agi (and more ap because of it), MM likes crit as well due to the Piercing Shots mechanic. So while it's a dps gain for Survival (they have no "bleed effect", and they gain more agi per point than MM), it would be a dps loss to MM due to the bleed on crit mechanic. This is also why the spreadsheet will sometimes give you a decent number of orange gems in the sheet instead of pure red as marks. If I remember right, I came out with an "Optimized" gearset that was over 10k dps with almost 70% crit raid buffed.

With 91b released I finally got around to update the OP again. I mainly used the optrimizer to get us a starting point to work with and didn´t put much efford into improving it by hand yet. So feel free to post upgrades if you find them.

One request though - I´m aware that quite a few of the new Heroic items are still missing but I really want to keep it to those items already included in the spreadsheet - so if you work on upgrades please don´t use custom items recreated after those found on mmo-champion or other sources.
Also as usual I´d prefer if you could post new item templates utilizing the gearstring like this:

With the base Best MM template, all I did was change Dark Matter to the Runestone and picked up 80.94 dps (final of 10087.08)

I improved the DPS on the templates by changing [Frostbite Bullets] to [Saronite Razorheads] and re-gemming. For BM I set the re-gem options on the settings tab as follows:

It's kinda late so I'll just explain exactly what I did to up the max MM dps to 10898,71

The goal is to NOT use Mjolnir Runestone, but hit the hardcap on armor penetration anyway. If I'm not mistaken or if armor penetration has been changed, the hardcap is 1232 rating. This will give you 1230, which is probably as close as it gets. I haven't experimented with other pieces of gear, I might do it Friday where I have more time on my hands.

What I did was to change every single gem to Fractured (armor penetration). All purple (why would you use a purple when you use a Nightmare Tear which is enough for Meta?), all orange and all Delicate red gems are changed to Fractured Cardinal Rubies. All Delicate Dragon's Eyes are changed to Fractured. Mjolnir Runestone is changed to *drumroll* BANNER OF VICTORY, this might seem crazy but it's (to my knowledge) the only trinket in the game (level 80 at least) with passive armor penetration, so get farming in normal mode ToC. Also, as we all know arpen scales exponentially, and getting the last points towards the hardcap yields some crazy numbers.

Seeing as the old tier 8 version of best dps spreadsheet for MM used arpen+int elixirs and arpen food (Hearty Rhino), I went to check that out as well and to my surprise it was now changed to Flask and Fish Feast. I'm guessing the intention was to almost exactly hit the softcap for Mjolnir. However, with the now really high amount of armor penetration, changing the flask back to elixirs and the food to Hearty Rhino gave another ~80 DPS. Batshit I tell you.

TL;DR - Switch all Dragon's Eye gems to fractured, ALL other gems to fractured cardinal ruby, change Mjolnir Runestone to Banner of Victory and Flask+Fish Feast to Arpen+int elixirs and Hearty Rhino.
