Woot just soloed Attumen the Huntsmen without T5 2p. I used my pvp gear + drums and stam scroll. I had 33k hp and gorilla had 33k too. Was hard tho because I had to tank him for a bit while pet had horse, pet almiost died when it was on 30% but last stand was ready. Phase 2 is easy then. No mount drop tho :P

In spirit of this thread, current content that is paying off nicely is normal Halls of Stone. The first 2 bosses are easily soloable and trash drops a lot of expensive greys and relics. On average I was getting 1-3 relics per drop, so about 100 for an hours work up to the first boss. If you get buffs in battlegrounds, the graveyard is right outside so you can queue up in the middle of the run to get buffs when you need them.
Trash itself is pretty simple and straight forward. Some 2-4 pulls. Some pulls just need to pull back. 3 pulls I pop bestial wrath to burn through first mob quicker. Kill mana users first.
First boss is just straight tank and spank. No issues.
Trash to 2nd boss make sure you pull back otherwise you'll pull full room.
2nd boss I ended up using a dps pet (if i recall correctly). The t5 was able to heal him through the void zones. Just keep mend pet up for repentance.
Trash to 3rd boss is typically just one at a time, so worth killing them even if you don't want to attempt 3rd boss.
3rd boss is hard. If you stay in the room you get bombarded with damage. So, looking into the room if you stay by the middle pillar on the right hand side you can avoid all room damage. Getting closer you'll get hit by the beams.
I haven't quite downed this boss yet, but working on it. The way the mobs come out seem to be on a set pattern, but I can't confirm that until I get back in there. The first 3 seem to come out the right side, where you are. So spamming multishot before they appear should grab them. The next 2 seem to come out first the left side then quickly the right side. So, while pet is working on 3rd set on right side, run in the entrance and drop 3 sets of traps then come back to volley. Another option is use eyes of the beast and thunderstomp, then pop out and start dpsing.
I was able to get to phase 2 using this strategy, so half way there. Just need to fine tune how to handle mobs coming from left side and making sure none of them get in the room. That's the hard part.
Another option is instead of traps/volley in doorway, just stand there and pick up the mobs yourself. Bring back to pet, have pet aggro them, and get by pillar and bandage.
This boss isn't so important for making gold though since there is only the final boss left and no other trash (as far as I remember). So, downing him is more just to be able to finish the instance.

Been spending a few hours this afternoon on soloing heroic Shattered Halls.
With 2pcT5 and a Turtle (swapping to croc for the fire archer hallway gauntlet) I've managed to get to the second gauntlet hallway with the sparring gladiators in the side alcoves. Even with skipping the Glads, the Legionnaire-led packs are rough.
I can mostly handle the mobs that are there (a random mix of 5 orcs + the Leggo), but the wolves and their Handler that show up get me too far in over my head. Has anyone managed to come up with a mostly reliable means of getting past this hall?

The wolves should be easily killed, if I remember correctly, if you switch to them when they engage. Or, you could actually pull the large packs past the Gladiator packs (they won't aggro if you pull straight down the middle) if you problem is that the wolf packs are interfering while you're already in combat.

I was just checking out Pongo's Armoury: http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dalvengyr&n=Pongo and he has some pretty nice obviously BM Soloing gear. The one thing I don't get when you look at things like Unseen set bonuses - you get a bit more Pet Damage but at the cost of a lot of stats if you could be wearing T9...is it really worth it?
Is it possible to solo your way to get T5 gear? I can't convince anyone to run it with me!
Is it possible to compensate for less pet abilities by having more DPS and taking the SV tree?

I currently have about a dozen different solo sets, maximizing hit and resiliance per level of mob I'm fighting. In addition I have a couple stamina sets and a pet dps set.
There are some fights where your pet just simply does most of the dps and you need to stay back as far as possible, hence all his pet damage gear.
You can 3 man loot reaver. You can probably set up a trade chat pug to try to down kael claiming for an achivement. Leo is probably going to take 7-8 people that know the fight. Vashj will probably still need a good portion raid of people who know the fight.
Depending on what you are soloing, survival can solo okay. But you are sacrificing a lot of pet survivability by not going into BM. Most fights aren't a dps race but more just a surviving race. You are just handicapping yourself by going survival, but you can make it work depending on what you want to solo. Just will be more difficult.

I soloed heroic Shattered Halls without 2T5 using a BM spec/bear pet in welfare emblem/pvp gear (would have been easier with a turtle, but I'm wiser in hindsight). The hardest part of the instance was the end boss as I would die to his blade dance even when FDed.
I also had a rough time of the big legionnaire packs - the two that you mentioned, and the one big one right before the slimes and Netherkurse. Until I realized you can walk around them without aggroing. Just make sure you wait for the houndmaster and his warhounds to pat away before diving into the orcs sparring on the target dummies.

That helped, thanks.
I found that for Bladefist it's easiest to have your pet pick up the adds as they spawn and then ignore them if you have a STA heavy pet and 2pcT5. Thunderstomps will keep them on the pet while you heal through it. Save BW/Deterrence for the Whirlwind parts and use your potion CD for healing. If you take time to bandage, be sure to do it at the far end of the room since the adds will come for you first.

Instead of a ferocity pet or gorilla, why not use a turtle? Now with their special ability : Shell Shield
The turtle partially withdraws into its shell, reducing damage taken by 50% for 12 sec.
This could be amazing while healing pet or during a mortal strike of some sort And they are really good tankers/lots of armor.. I have not gotten to test any specific boss yet as I'm leveling still. And since you don't have interrupt from gorilla, you're still able to go deeper into MM for barrage (sample talents i through in quickly, some(obviously) points can be placed around, seeing as though instead of an extra point in BM, put into readiness ( this is with glyphs)...

There is no debate that, along with the warp stalker, the turtle is the one of the best pets at mitigating incoming damage. Look at the post dates in this thread; many posts were made before thunderstomp was available to all tenacity pets. Without the awesomeness that is 2T5 I was able to down Garr and Attumen/Midnight with a turtle pet.
As far as your suggested spec, for tanking anything with substantial incoming damage, you are simply sacrificing too much passive healing and health on your pet. By not taking the BM talent you lose 4 pet talent points, and can only take one point between Silverback and Wild Hunt. Also you do not have the spirit bond talent. There is just too much in the BM talent tree that helps your pet survive.
Furthermore, you have picked several talents focusing on mana efficiency and your own damage output. You will find that pet threat is much more important and limiting than your own potential dps in tough fights. Good examples are the aforementioned Garr and Attumen/Midnight where your ability to burst down add(s) makes the fight. Pet survival > pet threat > hunter dps.
Incidentally pet threat is also why I prefer a BM/MM spec (56/15/0) as opposed to the extreme stam (56/0/15) builds for most solo endeavors.

I agree with that if you don't have 2T5, but if you do I would say that Pet survival > hunter dps > pet threat, my reasoning is that hunter dps indirectly helps pet survivability.
Threat is rarely an issue for me with FD and MD and proper management of pet targets.

Concerning the discussion above, I strongly agree hunter dps > pet threat. Obviously you're going to want to do as much damage as possible, but it's definitely something I think about since the more damage you do, the stronger your pet heals.
Question: Has anyone been collecting Shiny Shards of the Flame, 10 and 25? I have a feeling it'll come in handy while soloing some fights. If you can get both trinkets, it's 1000 hp5. Pretty solid healing if there's ever a fight that has a steady damaging aura. Moroes's garrote comes to mind, but that's avoidable by feigning. I can't think of any other fights where 1000 hp5 would make it soloable or considerably easier. Ayamiss or Buru?

Only one of the trinkets grant HP5 and of course only half that number. The otehr trinket is MP5, and of course the bonusses aren't really that awesome for us, unless the spelldamage part can proc on our 'spells' and the healing proc can proc from Mend Pet.

Phase 1 - Tank and spank. Try to end phase with full mana and full health on your pet. Switch to head fast with a macro.
Phase 2 - Stand max range and you won't get hit with conflag. Pop an armor potion when your pet gets hit harder. Switch to head fast. Also hawkeye isn't mandatory as you mentioned. I just use a range display to make sure I'm 30-35 yards away.
Phase 3 - Stand minimum shooting range so your pet picks up pumpkins. Pop rapid fire, trinkets, blood fury, whatever you got when pumpkins first spawn. Pop last stand after rapid fire wears off. Switch to head fast.
Without armor potions my pet was taking 4k a hit. Using black heart healped for phase 3 and using an armor portion also helped for phase 3. Last stand wasn't as important but might as well be safe.

That's true; however, you can wear both the 10 and 25 man versions of the healing trinket. I agree that both the mana trinket and bonus are useless though.

I'm still pretty new to the idea of playing as a BM (I've played SV since BC came out). I've been soloing BC heroics and a few of the Classic raids for a while now for rep and whatnot, but I'd like to start soloing more challenging instances.
Currently, I've been tanking instances in my SV raiding gear. I know that that's not ideal. I can do a lot of DPS, but my Turtle's survivability isn't good enough to do more difficult raids. What stats should I be looking for in gear that will help my turtle's tanking (other than getting two t5 pieces)?

I'm not 100% great at soloing either, been able to do attumen, moroes (only once, he really sucks), and maiden of virtue so far. I too have decided to just use my MM gear (and 2 t5).
If you need more help with survivability, i'd say AP and stam. AP depends on the fight; if you can attack enough in a fight, you'll heal your pet more (however, you'll have to then deal with threat gain and stuff). Stam which is one of the more obvious things to get to increase survivability. It would also help to know what you like to solo; are you trying WotLK instances, or maybe just like kara and ZG?? If WotLK, you need to also consider your pet getting crit meaning you'll need some resilience (theres a chart somewhere at the big rhino forums Big Red Rhino Forums). Of course there is also armor which helps your pet out too.

I'm sorry if this has been discussed and I missed it but with 17 pages of posts it's getting a little hard to follow. What are the best 2 pcs of t5 to use? I mean which slots are the best to lose t9 level stats from? I have shoulders and chest and use them but I'm thinking that I'd probably be better off with a different slot selection if possible. If it has been discussed can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Gloves and shoulders are by far the least stats. Hence they are the best for T5 soloing.

MC cleared without 2/T5 pieces. used my regular raiding gear for the most part. Used 3 pieces giantstalker for Gehennas and stamina set for Majordomo. Did Garr by pulling into Rag's room and bouncing adds between myself and pet, Golemag killed in similar fashion. Majordomo was challanging, but ended up putting pet on my kill target and tanking Major myself for a while, then feign, set pet on the boss, bandage and repeat. otherwise adds were going down not fast enough and my pet could not survive the fight. in my stamina set after buffs i was at around 30k HP, so i could take a few hits.
