What they're saying is that you can send your pet at the spirits (It will just sit under them since they are out of range) and misdirect them to the pet. Between a combination of Multi/auto/arcane/chimera, the pet will probably have aggrton on 2-4 of them which will just run down and blow up on the pet for insignificant damage.

I don't believe you can volley them because they're in the air though.

While mding the pet can be helpful sometimes I find that slowing with chillblains (frost dk) and killing them with seed & sear is a much easier and more reliable solution.
