Every mob is identified by a unique identifier (<name>_<guid> (the name is there so people with old versions don't just get a screen full of guids)).
The fix I've done is to only display scorch stacks if someone with the mod sees the debuff being applied (this is now a separate combat log message), then to count all scorches as refreshing that stack on that mob (using the same blacklist code as before to try and stop people scorching without talents refreshing it). This means things should always be properly assigned to the mob they are on, but as I say, its not been hugely tested. There is a small issue if the bar expires but you refresh the buff (eg the scorch combat log message is more than 30 seconds since the last scorch, but the scorch landed just in time), the bar won't reappear.

Like I said i'm specced Arcane at the moment only for AOE I have about 11k mana pool fully raid buffed as do our other mages. Going oom isn't (or should'nt) be a problem. Is mage armor still the way to go?
And is there any numbers for a minimal amount of spirit you should have before mage armor becomes viable?

That's actually the one I modified. It looks new due to how wowace works. Basically, because scorchio has dependencys on other libraries, every time one of those is updated, a new zip file with the new libraries is created automatically. If you check in that folder for the other file with the same timestamp, you'll see its scorchio-r51031.49.zip, which is revision 51031 of scorchio (from 5th October 2007) release 49 (due to library updates).

Not helping in the ramp-up of the initial x5 scorch debuff and helping maintain it as a fire mage with improved scorch is both selfish and stupid. Scorchio makes it very easy to keep track of (and thus semi-appealing to people who are otherwise resistant to doing it), but as already mentioned, it's broken.

Quick question for Manly and others who have a 2/47/11 +1 build. I have been using a 0/47/14 build because I like the imp blizzard and permafrost for aoe farming and kiting. Additionally, it really makes some encounters even more trivial (like the Dragonhawk in ZA- we just pop a whole side, I use rank one blizzard to chill em, then nova right as we are ported, then we come back and kill them. Rinse and repeat on the other side).
How important is that 2 points in arcane subtlety, or is it something I should not even worry about? I really like the build I currently have, but if this makes a difference I will switch.

With the sub-1.5s GCD and the +50% AOE cap on arcane explosion, I don't see much reasons to ever not take 2 arcane points. Even as fire the only cases I might do flamestrikes are really rares now.
Anyway I recommend you get to it. You're gonna need it for felmyst and mu'ru.

I don't have much spirit at all in my raid gear, usually about 250 spirit. I also have very close to an 11k mana pool without Arcane Mind at all. My mana regen while not casting and fully raid buffed was about 425mp/5. 30% of that is still ~ 125mp/5 while casting. The loss of another 3% crit for a tiny amount of mana regen on AOE is worth it to me. Specially as is often the case, I will have to get my mana back fast once the wave is done for the next will have incoming necros for my fellow mages and myself to sheep so they don't plow our tank down in massive shadow bolt volleys.
I would say its ultimately personal preference which armor you wish to use. I go OOM all the time on Hyjal trash, even while spamming my gems, pots, and evocate (even got a 2nd [Amani Divining Staff] gemmed with +intellect and a +30 intellect enchant on it for a staff with +101 intellect on it for an evocation staff. Will be +107 once I get all [Brilliant Lionseye] gemmed in.)

I agree with Manly, it also does so much more for trash waves in Hyjal. The damage from Flamestrike and Blizzard just can't keep up with Arcane Explosion. Also, since 2.4 Jan'lai no longer teleports the entire raid on top of him so long as you are on the main platform. So your aoe trash tank, a holy paladin in some prot gear for us, can pick them all up much easier.

First off: Thank you a TON for quickfixing Scorchio!
Now, I'm either blind or going insane. I could have sworn there was a generic-per-spec (one for Frost, one for Fire, one for Arcane) estimation ratio for hit/crit/damage/haste for Mages, much like for Warlocks (they're the best example; IIRC Destro is a straight 1:1:1:1 ratio for example). I can't seem to find it again, and I'm curious if one still exists. Now, I know it wouldn't be taken as pure truth/gospel, but I'm hoping there's still one around so when I pull up two random pieces of gear, I can take a quick glance at both, do a bit of shorthand math, and figure out which provides the better increase. Is there one still around, or am I just going to have to break out the VontreCalc?
Thank you in advance.

One other thing to add is that 4% higher crit rate on Scorch and Fireblast is really a tiny dps increase (less than .2% of your total dps). That's an easy way to free up two points from the fire tree, allowing a 2/45/14 build.

Personally I like the extra crit on scorch so I can scorch efficiently with master of elements in situations where I need to conserve mana but still do some damage. An example of this is for Tidewalker. We used mages to help with aoe, so in between murloc waves I could just scorch spam on tidewalker himself without losing much mana at all and still doing about 800 dps, and still have mana to do the aoe necessary each wave.

But, unless you have clearcasting, scorch is lower DPM than fireball. You are effectively doing the exact reverse of what you should be doing under that case, with the sole exception of this strat being valid if youre trying to fish out clearcasting procs.

Well I wasn't concerned with as much with my dpm as I was just being able to do something other than wand between waves without being oom. If I did fireballs in between, of course I'd do more damage for the mana I used, but I wouldn't have enough mana for the aoe.

I would pull that first point out of Dragon's Breath before I pulled it out of Incineration, but to keep 14 points in frost and 2 in arcane, at least one point would have to come from there. I suppose the other point could come from Combustion, but I have fallen in love with my BOOM macro:
/cast Hex Shrunken Head
/cast Icy Veins
/cast Combustion
The macro shows the cool down timer for my trinket, which is only 2 minutes while the cool down on the other two abilities is 3 minutes (Combustion not starting until the buff has been fully consumed, i.e. 3 fire crits.) My trinket will come off cool down in the middle of the cool downs for the other two spells. I can then hit my BOOM macro again and it will pop my trinket again but not the other two. When my trinket comes off cool down the 2nd time, 3rd time available, Icy Veins and Combustion will be up again for another round of max damage cooldown usage.

Manly on Brutallus
Manly would you mind listing how you execute your cooldowns for Brutallus? My guild is working on Kalecgos at the moment with our best attempt in the 50% range, and I want to be prepared. I am 2/48/3 and have 4pc T6.
Between:
Flame cap
Destruction potion
Combustion
Icy veins
Hex Shrunken Head
Berserking (I am a troll.)
+ Bloodlust
...how do you time everything? Also, I do not have a Skull of Gul'dan yet though plan on using it once I obtain one.
Also, is your timing of CDs fairly uniform throughout BT/MH/SP or do you specifically change timings on certain bosses?
Any help would be appreciated.

Brut Fire Mage Cooldowns 101 Assuming a Exact 6 Min Kill
2 seconds - Flamecap+skull
22 seconds - Drums(if you have them) otherwise skip
23 seconds - Destro Pot + Hex + Combustion + Veins
2:02 - Mana Emerald (+ Skull if using Mana Pot)
2:22 - Drums
2:23 - Destro Pot + Skull (Mana Pot + Hex if Mana Pot Needed)
2:43 - Hex (Nothing If Mana Pot Needed)
5:19 - Drums
5:20 - Lust + Skull + Flamecap
5:40 - Destro Pot + Veins + Hex + Combustion
*edit: fixed a obvious error that I had overlooked.
I'm not sure whether you would gain more from using berserking after being slashed, or in combination with the other 2 minute cooldowns(Hex+Pot Timer), obviously if they both happen at the same time your golden though =).
|
Also, is your timing of CDs fairly uniform throughout BT/MH/SP or do you specifically change timings on certain bosses?
|
Honestly, it varies from Boss to boss and raid to raid. For Certain Bosses I am only able to get 1 Icy Veins/Combustion off and try and use that one for 20%. Some are fairly uniform, like Illidari Council, other have DPS intervals like RoS, Gurtogg, Illidan, Archimonde (were you obviously attempt to time cooldowns for those DPS intervals).

Well, cooldown stacking always depends on a number of factors. First, your gear choice (ie: SCB trinket or not, lots of haste gear etc.), then group comp (for mana regen planning), then a bunch of other factors, such as crit rate affecting your mana returns which might affect your rotations as you go. An absolute perfect execution should look close to this:
1- stack 5 scorch
[...]
2- drums of battle
3- wait for the annoying drums of battle GCD
3- flame cap, skull of gul'dan, icy veins, destruction potion
[~17-18 seconds]
4- combustion (ie: pre-cast combustion)
5- fireball (number of fireball debatable and depending upon crit rate, usually 1 or 2 fireballs)
6- fireball
7- mojo madness
[2 min]
8- drums of battle
9- wait for stupid gcd
10- skull of gul'dan, destruction potion
11- mojo madness
<get an innervate somewhere here>
[5min in the fight]
12- flame cap
[19% minus 1.5 second]
12- drums of battle
13- GCD
[at 19%]
14- bloodlust
15- skull of gul'dan, icy veins, destruction potion
[~17-18 seconds]
16- combustion (ie: pre-cast combustion)
17- fireball (number of fireball debatable and depending upon crit rate, usually 1 or 2 fireballs)
18- fireball
19- mojo madness
[at sub 1% (this is very situational and a judgement call, depends on your current ignite)]
20- scorch
21- fireblast
22- scorch spam
------
Theres a few numbers that can be played around depending on a number of factors. The innervate is just to avoid you using that mana gem, but you can live without it. What I would recommend is probably flamecap directly on the pull, managem, then flamecap at 5min, and use a mana potion instead of destro pot at 2min (basically, don't stack any dps consumables on the 2nd set of cooldowns). Normally the timing of bloodlust is much more involved/precise than that, but given the length of the fight its not worth bothering. Also, cooldown stacking varies if you use SCB, since you dont flame cap and use mana gems everytime. It also means you stack combustion with the rest, not 'outside' of everything else.
--
Note that I did not mention berserking anywhere. This is because its a judgment call. If you can do it after a meteor, then its more haste. The numbers listed above are not absolute, there some variance on how you time your cooldowns -- you could 'wait for your procs' up to some leniance, because your last set of cooldowns are stacked on the last minute. That means you have ~1min of wiggle room. 'Berserking' is roughly a 'proc' in the sense it can be better in some cases if you can wait for it. I haven't given it much thought given I'm not a troll, but thats what my gut feeling would play with it.

I checked the numbers on Combustion and pre-casting isn't useful any more.
At 40% crit rate, it gives you 10%, 20%, 30%, 32%, 22%, 9%, 1.4%, 0.1% crit (on average) for casts 1 to 8.
So, only casts 1 to 6 get a meaningful bonus from Combustion, and they fit into the window of Hex/Icon.
Edit:
Combustion and fireballs in flight are messy, the fireball doesn't get the crit bonus but may eat one of the 3 charges if it crits. I totally forgot about that.
Using a GCD on drums or casting a scorch before popping Combustion is a good workaround.

Hoping this is the right thread for this, but I need some gear advice. The following is my gear list, and I just want to make sure I have made the right decisions. The first item listed (with an *) for every slot is the one I use:
Head: [Hood of Hexing]*
Neck: [Hellfire-Encased Pendant]*, [Loop of Cursed Bones]
Shoulder: [Mantle of Tirisfal]*, [Mantle of the Elven Kings]
Back: [Ruby Drape of the Mysticant] w/subtlety
Chest: [Vestments of the Sea-Witch] w/ 6mp5
Wrist:: [Runed Spell-cuffs]*, [Fury of the Ursine] +spelldamage enchant on both
Hands: [Studious Wraps] +spell damage
Waist: [Belt of Blasting]
Legs: [Leggings of Tirisfal]
Feet: [Velvet Boots of the Guardian]*, [Footpads of Madness] both with vitality.
Rings: [Violet Signet of the Archmage], [Band of Eternity]
Trinkets: [Hex Shrunken Head]*, [Icon of the Silver Crescent]*, [Serpent-Coil Braid]
My mainhand is [Fang of the Leviathan] with sunfire and my off-hand choices are [Chronicle of Dark Secrets]* and [Fetish of the Primal Gods].
Ok. Questions.
1.) Are there any choices I have made there that I should switch? The only one I really think is iffy is the Velvet Boots of the Guardian over the Footpads of Madness.
2.) Is there any badge loot I should focus on- the new caster sword would be a +damage increase, but I will probably be able to buy the S3 weapon next week anyway.
3.) Subtlety v. spell penetration to cloak (and I am hoping the Shadowcaster's Cloak will eventually drop).
I am deep fire, btw. Basically, any advice you have, please offer it.
