You do want to enable Enforce Gem Requirements. Read the tooltip on it if you're confused by what it does. Your Dragon Eyes are probably being replaced because you don't have them marked available, or part of an active gemming template. See the help document on gemming templates and/or optimization.

Is there a possibility to model the Shiny Shard of the Gods-Set for mages? Is there any info on the internal cooldown of the proc?

I think you might have misread Tebla's first concern. The problem is that the dragon eyes are merely shuffled around during optimization without any score increase, not that they aren't being incorporated into the optimized set. For example, after running the optimizer the first time, Rawr would suggest placing two dragon eyes in my belt and one in my gloves. If I were to then run the optimizer once more without changing any of the specifications or selecting new gear to be optimized, Rawr might suggest placing just one dragon eye in my belt and, say, two in my staff. The change offers no dps increase whatsoever, but the optimizer feels the need to display it anyway.

Exactly right. And, I can't seem to enforce two blue gems.

Rawr Help

Hey, is there a tutorial somewhere besides the Youtube video on the best way to use Rawr?

I downloaded it mainly for gear comparison and personally, I find it a little information dense.

Ah hah. Gems just being shuffled around with no benefit is a known limitation of the Optimizer that we're working on solving. It should never show you results where JUST gem shuffling occurred, it'll always be some shuffling along with other valid changes. Those can be confusing, because shuffling gems around to get different socket bonuses can indeed be an upgrade. Regardless, we're working on solving the needless shuffling issue.

I'm still confused by "I can't seem to enforce two blue gems."... Did you check Enforce Gem Requirements, like I said?

The YouTube video is the best 'tutorial' we've got, but there's also a good bit of documentation on specific features/concepts on our Help Pages.

Thanks for explaining about the gem shuffle. I figured that it was something like that. And yes, I clicked on enforce gem requirements, load up all the gear available to me and optimize and poof every blue gem in my setup is gone. For instance I have two Purified Dreadstones, in my gear to enable my Chaotic Skyflare. I would like there to be 2 blue gems in the optimized setup. They always get replaced with Reckless Ametrine. Now, I understand that the ametrine is higher DPS, but it doesn't qualify as blue.


It is not that big of a deal, I can get by without it, but I would still like a way to make 2 blue gems part of the optimize setup, sort of like making a regex for the final outcome. If that makes sense.

Well, that's what Enforce Gem Requirements does... Do you not have any blue gems marked available? Post your character file, and we can take a look, but that's exactly what Enforce Gem Requirements does. When you have this gear with no blue gems, does the metagem appear grayed out?

I don't know if I have any marked as available. That is probably the problem. For instance I have blue gems in my boots and chest. Those are the only two. Now, I have three different chest pieces I could choose from and a couple pairs of boots. So, I run the optimizer with all of the gear that I might conceivably wear going back to Handbook of Obscure remedies and Darkmoon Card: Illusion. I then run optimizer and see if I should break a set bonus or what have you.

So, how do I mark the gems available? I have marked the boots themselves as available and they have blue gems already in them.

There are multiple ways of marking gems. The first way is to go the "Tools" then "Edit Gemming Templates" Here you can add different gemming combinations you want. The other way is if you want a specific gem to be considered, go to the right side of the program. At the top where you generally see "Slot Gear \/"; select "Gem > Normal" and then the color you want to select. then click the diamond for the gem you want to evaluate. Also you don't HAVE to have just 2 Blue gems for the meta requirement. Sometimes the gem bonus on a piece of gear is too good that you could have 3-5 Blue gems.

Lastly Ast is talking about a check box above the statistics on your character (below where you put in your server and name info). There is a check box that says "Enforce Meta Requirement" If this is checked, Optimizer will make sure that the meta requirement is enforced. If not, then it will ignore the meta requirement but still keep the results of the meta value.

There are multiple ways of marking gems. The first way is to go the "Tools" then "Edit Gemming Templates" Here you can add different gemming combinations you want. The other way is if you want a specific gem to be considered, go to the right side of the program. At the top where you generally see "Slot Gear \/"; select "Gem > Normal" and then the color you want to select. then click the diamond for the gem you want to evaluate. Also you don't HAVE to have just 2 Blue gems for the meta requirement. Sometimes the gem bonus on a piece of gear is too good that you could have 3-5 Blue gems.

Lastly Ast is talking about a check box above the statistics on your character (below where you put in your server and name info). There is a check box that says "Enforce Meta Requirement" If this is checked, Optimizer will make sure that the meta requirement is enforced. If not, then it will ignore the meta requirement but still keep the results of the meta value.
The checkbox is labeled "Enforce Gem Requirements" (because it enforces more than just metagem requirements. Normal gems have uniqueness constraints as well), but otherwise that's all accurate.

I was wondering if there were a place to read up on the talent score editor. Rawr is way overvaluing frostbite/shatter for aoeing with blizzard in a raid. Since the frostbites don't stick long enough to use the crit from them, I'd like to reduce the value of shatter. This is most particularly for Anub'arak hard mode when there are 5 things to AOE most of the fight and just about every dps is aoeing.

The talent score editor is for making optimizer constraints, it won't influence how the talents are actually modeled.

This is the relevant excerpt for modeling Fingers of Frost/Frostbite/Shatter on Blizzard:

fof = Math.Max(fof, 0.05f * calculations.MageTalents.Frostbite);
BaseCritRate += (1.0f - (1.0f - fof) * (1.0f - fof)) * (calculations.MageTalents.Shatter == 3 ? 0.5f : 0.17f * calculations.MageTalents.Shatter);
If anyone has a better/more accurate model for this let me know.
