Kewl thanks

This unfortunately bring up a 3rd point,
can this macro then be used to see if we are unhitable, IE to see if we pass the 100% mark

If i use the macro with the changes u suggested, i then sit at 81.91% which to me means i am being hit 18.09% of the time.

Or am i totally out in left field ??

I spent the last 3 years as a Holy Paladin and just started my conversion to the Protection way a few month before Lich King came out

So your patience is appreciated

Thanks as always

If you block fully, then yes, the macro is telling you approximately what percentage of the time you will not be hit. If you don't block fully, then it is only telling you how often you won't get hit for the full amount. (Remove block to determine how often you fully avoid.)

The macro is based vs. an equal leveled mob, as that is what the character screen reports. The extra 2.4% is due to the fact that a boss level mob will reduce it's miss chance against you by ~0.6% as well as reduce your dodge, block, and parry chances versus it by 0.6% each. Be aware of that when using it.

As an aside (and please don't take this the wrong way), the mods here frown on using "forum abbreviations" as well as not capitalizing and punctuating your posts. You may wish to work on that a bit lest you receive an infraction for it. Read the first forum rule for more info.

The problem is that there's basically zero tanking gear that also has spellpower these days. As a result if you're talking about really big AoE packs (like BT step supplicants) then a spellpower weapon may be the way to go because it's a single slot that can provide huge amounts of spellpower with minimal stat loss.

Masikai: Besides Left's correction to account for the higher defense skill cap, yes that macro should still work.

Left is also correct insofar as the removal of crushing blows. However, there is still something to be said about becoming unhittable, since it effectively converts your block value into passive damage reduction (assuming you can keep Holy Shield at near-100% uptime).

As someone in mostly blue ilevel-187/200 gear, I'm about 9-10% away from unhittable, and it's still not completely clear if pushing for unhittable's BV advantage is going to be worth the loss of other stats.

Actually the macro isn't correct. Since we do not know the diminishing returns on miss, and the miss given on the character screen is before diminishing returns. So it would be prudent to overshoot the 102.4 by a few % to push all the normal hits from the attack table.

Has any protection specced paladins experimented with Touched by the Light recently, and if you have (whether it means including or NOT including it in your spec) what are your thoughts about the talent?

The reason for why I'm asking is that while threat is absolutely no issue for me in heroics nor on bosses/small packs in raids, I see a growing tendency to lose mobs in bigger packs which is ... puzzling to say the least. I've been experimenting both with the cookie-cutter 969 rotation as well as more "customized" rotations in an attempt to improve my AoE threat, and I am (of course) cycling through mobs to spread my SotR and judgments / exorcisms around.

For the sake of reference I guess I should also point out that the people I raid with are the same people I run heroics with, so it's not a question of severely undergeared DPSers in the heroics vs. well-geared raiders. Furthermore, I've not included TbtL in my spec up until my latest respec (which I've not gotten to raid with yet, due to all content being dead until reset).

EDIT: My spec on Armory is a bit outdated atm (yes, another one of my experiements) but what I will be raiding with come reset will probably be akin to this spec

I don't think there's any experimenting about it. Take it, no ifs, ands, or buts. If you're that high up in the Prot tree, not taking TbtL is just throwing away threat and damage. It's only going to be more useful the farther up the raid chain you go, where you're receiving even more stam on your gear.

Just to add to this, Consecration scales with both attack power and spell power now. It does not, however, scale with your weapon damage. That is why swapping to a spell power weapon for pure AoE packs is good. It is also why a full spell damage set would not be notably more effective, as Consecration gets the same extra damage from one attack power as from one spell power, and that'd require a lot of spell power to make up the loss of attack power on any other pieces than your weapon.

Simple question: I'm looking for an addon that yells at me when the active seal has 10 seconds or less left on the duration. I'm finding I often forget to reseal in time, costing dps, so I need a very obvious reminder when it's time to do it.

Assuming either a protection paladin or holy paladin is using SoL on a mob, does reckoning become useful for enabling more and faster SoL procs? Or are the 5 talent points simply not worth it. I had heard that it can now proc off blocks, is this true?

I use Ghost Pulse 2 to make a huge icon of my Seals when they expire.

I do not know if the big icon from GP will show once the Seal has 10 seconds left, but I think my solution (re-Seal as soon as I see the big icon) works well enough for me.

Yes, Reckoning does now proc off blocks. But I've found its better to invest those 5 points in the Seal of the Pure for prot pallies, as SoV does great things for threat generation. In regards to SoL procs, yes, it will proc off faster and enable more if Reckoning does proc.

Question about professions. I am currently a BS/Eng and now that Eng is worthless, I think I need to pick up something else. I raid with all 3 specs so I am thinking that JC is probably my best option. Any suggestions on what to grab that will be versatile enough for my constant respecs?

If I go with JC, it looks like I can have 3 of the BoP gems in each gear set for a total of 9 used, am I right about that?

Simple Question

I have no idea what this 969 rotation is. Any simple answers?

Edit: Nevermind. Found my answer.

Simply put, a 96969 rotation (yes, with 5 digits) is composed of two things:

The three 9s are your long (8-9 second) cooldown abilities - Consecration, Holy Shield and Judgement
The three 6s are your short (6 second) cooldown abilities - Hammer of the Righteous and Shield of Righteousness.

This basically means that you alternate between a 9 ability and a 6 ability.

I'll have to follow Gerine here. Im currently Eng and Mining, and as he stated, Im find Eng not to be efficient at tanking. Sure, the goggles are a good thing, but Im posistive they will be replaced in the following patches. So what should I focus on for tanking?

Blacksmithing allows you to socket more, which would fit nicely with JC and some +24 stam gems.
Leatherworking has some great enchants of their own (although Im not sure on specifics).

So would Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting be a good combo? Both are highly expensive (well, for me anyway). But would it profit it me in the end?

I've seen many people assume that the Eng goggles will be "replaced" in the future, however, wouldn't you also assume that they would upgrade said goggles, like they did in TBC? There were 3 different goggle versions if I remember correctly. Just because we don't have an upgrade right now, doesn't mean we won't in the future.

Blacksmithing does provide a fairly "safe" upgrade path in the future of course, you always know you'll have 2 extra sockets to play with.

Anyone else care to weigh in on Imp Hammer of Justice? Would you pick it up at 80? Or is it assumed that your 25 man raid will have others to do your interrupts for you...?
Personally I have yet to run into any mob that I can interrupt that is immune to the stun. In other words immune to stun=immune to the interrupt effect as well from what I've seen.

I have only been in the 5 man heros at this point but I can't imagine raid bosses being any friendlier

Kel'thuzad is one example of a boss who is immune to the stun effect but not the interrupt effect of Hammer of Justice.

3. Covering both questions above, while leveling would it be better to have two armor sets?
I don't run Pawn; I'm using Tankadin to track EH, avoidance, AP, Block Value and approaching unhittable, so I can't say much about those values. I can say that it can make sense to have different gear for different fights: for Patchwerk I'm planning to try to push avoidance and armor while maintaining a high health pool, but I'd use different gear for e.g. Gothik or dpsing on Loatheb.

With respect to #2 and #3, you really don't want spell power on your gear anymore. Really, just ditch it. Consecration gets a 0.04 modifier from both spell power and AP, but 1 SP = 1 str = 2.3 AP, so just stack strength for AoE situations. This is actually really nice because it will boost your mitigation due to blocking as well.

I'd consider keeping 2-3 partial sets as you find really good pieces:

1) Survival set: high stamina, armor, and avoidance, in the mix you prefer.
2) AoE set: high strength, shield block rating is also quite good as it is both mitigation and increased usage of all Holy Shield charges.
3) Single-target threat set: Shield block value shines here, also strength and capping hit rating and expertise.

It's perfectly fine to have one piece fill all three of these if it's close to your other options and you're low on inventory space.

I've found that I'm actually over the dodge expertise cap already thanks to the Glyph of Seal of Vengeance (10), talents (6) and racial (3).

My question is this , is the macro unaffected by the changes made in 3.xx
This does not work anymore due to diminishing returns on avoidance stats. (at least dodge, parry, and miss)

At around 12% character sheet value, this is about 11% effective dodge or 10% effective parry the last time I worked it out.

Moorabi(the Mammoth avatar in Gun'drak) is another example. I think it's safe to say that the spell interrupt mechanic is working now, and the mobs which can't be interrupted by HoJ are simply not able to be interrupted. Does anyone have any counter-evidence, in the form of a mob which can be interrupted by "pure" interrupts such as Kick, CS or Pummel, but cannt be interrupted by HoJ? For my part, I use Mik's Scrolling Battle Text, and when I try to interrupt something which I cannot, I get an "Immune" message, accompanied by the graphic for Deadly Throw. Does anyone see something else, or nothing at all?

Right, but if you really want to improve your Consecrations as much as possible, a spellpower weapon will provide far more spellpower than a melee one would strength or AP, which is what I was trying to say earlier.

Simple question, looking for a simple answer:

Does Sacred Shield stack?

Example: Should a Prot Paly still cast SS on himself when a Holy Paly is healing him and using his SS on the tank as well.

From my experience - no. Last cast overrides any previous, even if the previous was stronger (caster had more spellpower) - just like Judgement of Light.
