Your best bet is probably wowhead. If you look at the spell it shows the calculation used to attain the tooltip damage range; e.g. Holy Wrath - "causing (0.3 * holy spell power + 3122) Holy damage".

In short: It was never fish feast because Dragonfin Filet - Item - World of Warcraft was like 5-7 dps better. For 4.0.x dragonfin filet is still on top for ret paladins.

The difference is very small though, so do not bother consuming fish feast.

Our Mastery will prove us more useful in the upcomming expansion. Currently the shield will make up 8% of heal size and last for a 6 second duration. Each point of mastery will increase the shield size by 1%. This means that in higher level gear we should have more stats overall . In turn having larger heals and more stats into mastery ; providing larger bubbles.
However {and i cut this from the compendium} "The shield created by our mastery does not increase in size with further heals, instead it is replaced by a newer shield which for the moment appears to over-write the existing regardless of strength i.e. A shield with 1k absorb can be over-written by a shield with 500 absorb."

I have read that currently holy paladins in 4.0 are switching off . Some stacking all haste and reforging spirit into haste , and others stacking all intellect . Currently my guild runs our 25 mans with one holy pally that goes all out into mastery and I stack all haste.

I've been looking around, is this the proper forumla, for rets, to find out how much haste you need compared to your latency?

To figure your haste requirements to follow a "Str > Crit > Haste" setup, follow the formula:
* 4.5/1.09/1.05/(2(1.5+Your Latency Here))
* Take the value from above after the decimal point so it looks like this: 1.156425 would become 15.6425
* Multiply your value by 32.8, which will yield the haste number
you need to reach soft cap.

So say you run @ 200 Latency in raids, the haste cap equation would look like this:

* 4.5/1.09/1.05/(2(1.5+.200)) = 1.15642
* 15.5425*32.8 = 513.074 so I would need 514 Haste to be soft capped.

Quick Haste Cap Reference for Latency:
* 0 ms = 1019 Haste
* 50ms = 881 Haste
* 100 ms = 751 Haste
* 150 ms = 629 Haste
* 200 ms = 514 Haste
* 250 ms = 405 Haste
* 300 ms = 303 Haste

Are there any logging add-ons that will record the effectiveness of the Holy Paladin Mastery bubbles? World of Logs doesn't seem to record them at all and I am trying to gauge how effective they are.

As far as in-game goes, The absorb module of Skada Damage Meter : WoWInterface Downloads : Data Mods will record the Holy mastery, and there is a hack for Recount to add the functionality in as well.

That's not a "hack" for Recount. Recount also completely supports absorbs since short after Patch 4.0.
I assume you mean RecountGuessedAbsorbs, which is now obsolete.

Well, this is probably a stupid question. But the holy thread doesn't cover it and searching for a few terms in this thread doesn't produce any answers either. Here goes:

Blessed life gets you holy power every time you take "direct damage." I interpreted this as a distinction between taking a nuke or having a dot tick - so a dot that ticks every 1-3s isn't just going to proc it on cooldown. So by my interpretation, any incidental raid damage will proc blessed life. Which would make it an extremely good talent (especially for cata where raid damage is consistently present and high).

But no one seems to pay it any mind, so I must be wrong. Does (particularly cata) raid damage fall under the category of 'aoe' instead of 'direct' damage and therefore not cause a HP gain? That's the only scenario I can imagine wherein blessed life would not be a core talent. The cata holy compendium dismisses the talent with a comment about "are holy paladins offtanks now?"

Edit: Edited to reflect the fact that it now has an 8s icd instead of 2. Less useful, but I'd still like to know the answer.

Tanking question

Regarding weapon speed - what is better for a paladin tank now, faster or slower weapons?

I thought I read something about slower weapons being better for seal of truth. I currently have a 1.6s weapon (and crap) and had a chance to roll on I think it was 2.6s but hesitated as it was technicaly a dps sword...

Thanks in advance

Slow weapons, but for dps/tps more important is the stats - if it has useful hit/exp, then thats a big plus for threat. See Theckd's post

thanks for that response Talchas. That thread is great. I'm a little curious about the weapon enchants though.

I noticed Theckd doesnt mention Blade Ward at all. I know people shot it down pretty fast, but comparing to the top enchant listed (Accuracy) without the hit benefit (hit cap already reached) 25 crit seems marginal, where Blade Ward does the occasional damage and parry buff.

Any thoughts?

I haven't said anything about Blade Ward yet because I haven't had time to check whether the old model and code from 3.3.x is still valid.

Presumably it is, which means it probably still comes in around 20 DPS, slightly below the other enchants. I'd love to revisit the code, but I have enough other things to work on that I don't see myself having time to update it before Cataclysm's release, at which point Blade Ward will probably end up being irrelevant.

My advice is that if you're interested in a balanced survivability/threat enchant, Blade Ward and Blood Draining are both reasonable choices. If Mongoose still works as advertised then it's probably a viable choice too (I had heard rumors it was nerfed in 4.0.1, but I honestly haven't had time to look up the details, so I can't really make a definitive statement on Mongoose). If you're looking for pure threat, I would slap accuracy on a slow weapon (and reforge some hit elsewhere into something else if it puts you over hit cap).

If the custum latency tolerance that just went live works as intended, will the haste soft cap to reach 3s CS CD be the same for everyone (as if we have 0ms latecy)?

I have a Ret question this time, which I'd rather ask here instead of in the Ret forums in case it's too obvious

I know HoL procs are buggy, so that you can't use Zealotry withough having 3HP for example (and you cant use HP abilities without any HP already accrued before the proc)

Does anyone know if the whole second portion of the HoL proc is bugged, meaning the ability used doesn't actualy act as if it had 3 HP stacked? For example using a 1HP TV with a HoL proc - does it actualy do 3HP damage as advertised?

Yes, TV with HoL deals normal damage no matter whether you have 1, 2 or 3 holy power. The only thing that doesn't work correctly (apart from zealotry which you mentioned) is that you can't use Hand of Light when you don't have any Holy Power. That's not really game breaking in PvE.

You should only have 0 HP in 2 circumstances - beginning of a fight or because you just used your stack. In both scenarios CS is either off CD or will be in fractions of a second. At least at L80 it is uniformly superior to delay the HoL proc until after you use CS. This puts CS back off CD more rapidly, providing more HP over the course of the fight, thus more TV, thus more total damage. At default 8% the chance of a lost 2nd proc of HoL during this timeframe is extremely low and has been factored into the equation.

In short, the 0 HP bug should never be an issue. The no Zealotry before 3, is. However with 4.0.3a expected next week and already tested to not house this issue, it's short-lived regardless.
