In the gear thread we discussed using /cancelaura macro's to remove Chaos Bane. I just wanted to remind the ret paladins who do have Shadowmourne that there's an easier (and more efficient) way to handle this: FreeMe.

Simply type "/freeme 73422" after you first install it and the mod will immediately and automatically remove Chaos Bane when it applies from then on. As a side bonus, it works with annoying buffs like Baby Spice and Mohawked! as well.

Been reading through this thread as our guild have a few fresh-80 paladins looking into raiding and help with addons, and I'm a bit of a UI and info junkie. One thing I would like to suggest for consideration is a combination of three addons for use in place of boss mods. Appologies if these have already been suggested but after a quick read through and a search on the thread these weren't mentioned. All three are available through Curse.

1) AVR - virtual drawing tool to assist in placement planning. Comes with a 3D virtual ping placer as well as a line from your character to the spot. We have found it very helpful when our 10man guild does 25man runs, especially on Saurfang and Festergut with Spores.
2) AVREncounters - Preset support for raid encounters. As a sample, this will put a big red ring around whoever has a spore on festergut or has boiling blood on Saurfang, as well as red circle zones for malleable goo on Putri or ooze explosion targets on Rotface, with a smaller red circle "timer" inside it. Very useful for making sure you are covering everyone or away from everyone (though to keep away /range with DBM tends to work fine.)
3) Raidwatch 2 - Boss mod that does pretty much the same job as DBM, but the standard configuration is much clearer and on the whole the customisation interface is more user-friendly I found than DBM, though I must admit I haven't tried BigWigs although our GM used to use BigWigs but has since switched to RW2.

I haven't noticed any resource hit from using these three instead of DBM, but my customisation has been fairly minimal.

A warning: Having an assist who uses RW2 and another who uses DBM will cause problems with auto-marking, for blood beast targets for example. Make sure assists aren't using a mix of these addons.

It's possible to disable the marking feature of DBM through a UI option, you don't have to stop people from running their mod.

I noticed a lack of Tooltip Addon recommendation and since I have written my own such addon/addon-extension I thought I'd add it to the mix: RantTooltip: ChameleonTip

I believe a good Tooltip Addon should allow you to see all relevant information you need at a glance in less steps than it would normally take you to see this information. It should do so with formatting that helps highlight the relevant information without spamming you with redundant info or possible ambiguities.

Indispensable for a tank, but also very valuable for us Rets/DPS for both raiding or PvP:

For PVP: Being able to see who or what someone is targeting, what their HP/power levels are without having to drop your current target and selecting them is of huge benefit. Title filter allows you to instantly recognize potentially skilled players.

For Raiders/DPS: Easily recognize low HP mobs/mouse-over HoW executes. Find tanked targets quickly so you know it's safe to switch to them. Read your threat level on different mobs without having to tab through targets. Know the specs of other players around you at a glance, without having to inspect them.

You can read a more elaborate description of features and download it here: RantTooltip: ChameleonTip
