Having said that, my eventual "farm-mode" setup is going to be LWer/Alch, at least until WotLK. I figure I'll drop LWer going into Wrath, and pickup Enchanting for leveling. I may keep/drop Alchemy in Wrath depending on the power of the PMC v2.0 set. If it beats my Sunwell gear, I'll pick it up and make it.
However, the path I'm going to take is the following:
- drop Tailoring
- pick up Jewelcrafting, level to 37x, make 4 or so 26 healing gems and 14 spell dmg gems (maybe a couple stam gems for pvp too)
- drop JC, pick up enchanting
- level enchanting to 36x, enchant all of my end-game rings (pvp, pve, etc)
- drop enchanting, pick up LWing, and keep it until Wrath
That's the optimal setup as far as I can tell. The only way I could drop Alchemy is if I eventually get both a Sliver and a Memento, which seems unlikely given that we haven't seen *any* slivers yet.
If you're in a healer-type group, you can drop Drums of Resto, which are a reasonable gain; alternatively, drop Drums of Battle and haste up some healing. Really depends what kind of LWer support you have: 4 people means chaining Battle is sexy.
|
This is an interesting idea. It's something that I've planned to do once the two drops of [Ring of Harmonic Beauty] cooperate. Such an evasive little ring! My concern is that, by the time they both drop, leveling Leatherworking will hardly be as beneficial as it would be now. Who knows, it could be several months until we actually come across one. I'm almost tempted to do so for the time-being, though. Alchemy is definitely not an option, as you said.
It's a pity that [Glimmering Naaru Sliver] is channeled. While it works properly with +haste, I'm still desperately attempting to eye Illidan for Memento. It's nice that it isn't a set time period, but it is unfortunate that the effect is cancelled upon taking damage. :\

I basically made the open statement to all the Fusion healers that I will actively pass on Memento from now until everyone has it, and take the first Sliver. Given that 2/2 resto shamans, 1/1 resto druids and 2/3 paladins already have Memento, I'm basically saying "hey, last person who needs it ... trade ya". Of course, we have new trials for druid, paladin, and shaman, all of whom also need the trinket, so there's a waiting list that will last a while.
Perfect world, I'd go Memento+Alch Stone, since the benefit to potions is just too good to drop.

I am curious whether switching weapons will still activate GCD now. Blizzard might change that with this patch. So potentially you could swap a weapon at the end of a spell cast. At the worst it could be made to swtich if the spell is an instant cast. Its not yet over for spellsurge at least for priests.

I have a question for those who know better than I do. My guild is still going through BT right now. I wanted to know what is a better set up for T6 gear, keeping the 4pc set bonus. I'm not counting Sunwell items since we are in BT still, so I wanted to just look at what will be available to me pre-Sunwell.
I know priests used to replace T6 pants with Leggings of Eternity, but after 2.4, are Adorned Supernal Legwraps better? Or should someone go with T6 pants and the Cowl of Benevolence? This is my first post so I hope I am doing it right.

If you're set on the 4 piece T6 bonus, the legs are the weakest piece, even with the new 2.4 options. [Adorned Supernal Legwraps] and [Leggings of Eternity] are roughly comparable, depending on whether you want to focus on regen or healing and what gems you put in each.
You might also consider keeping 2 pieces of T5 (helm and either shoulders or gloves, assuming you already have the badge legs), since both the 2 piece T5 bonus and the 4 piece T6 bonus concern GHeal (the T5 bonus is regen-based; the T6 bonus is throughput-based). Certainly once you hit Sunwell you can have both simultaneously if you want (and you may find that you don't need the 2p T5 regen, although it's quite a lot). And neither bonus really helps you for CoH spam.

Okay thanks, I wasn't sure if legs were actually weakest piece or not because I do see some priests using them and using the helm off of Gorefiend instead. I wanted to see if there was something I didn't know, or not. I'm not taking Sunwell items into consideration yet just because I still have some of BT to clear, but thanks for the response, exactly what I was looking for.

Probably depends on the order they got them and/or if they can still get them.
But post spirit change the Gorefiend helm is definately superior to the T6 helm, but then there's set bonus to take into account for and such.

Net difference from [Cowl of Absolution] -> [Cowl of Benevolence] is +4.5 MP5 (OO5SR), -4.2 Mp5 (I5SR) and a max of 4.7 HSE. I'm not sure I consider that 'superior': I'd say they're roughly equal, and gaining the set bonus obviously puts T6 well over the top.

Itemization questions
First, thx for this topic which is a great source of information.
I actually raid on Swp (try KJ), and I have some questions concerning my stuff.
After reading most of this topic's questions/answers I didn't find solutions.
My position in the raid is :
- Raid (Coh) on Kalecgos, Felmyst, Twins, KJ, M'uru (P2)
- Mt (Gh) on Kalecgos, Brut, M'uru (P1)
Kalecgos depends of the raid's composition.
For M'uru i'm used to switch between [Staff of Immaculate Recovery] in P1 and [Archon's Gavel] / [Touch of Inspiration] in P2.
My neck from ZA never drop.
EU's armory refuse to show [Purified Shadowsong Amethyst] which are in all my blue socks.
I have always a SP in my groupe and a chaman during some fight as Brut and M'uru.
Now some questions :
1- Concerning the haste, what do you think about gemming as chaman/pal => full [Quick Lionseye] ? Then I think I'm gonna play with 2 [Blessed Band of Karabor], no ?
2- What about the [Glimmering Naaru Sliver] ? I thougt that i could use it instead of my [Earring of Soulful Meditation], no?
3- I choiced basically [ITEM[/item] (red) [Purified Shadowsong Amethyst] (blue) [Quick Lionseye] (yellow). I made this assuming that for me Coh need an enourmous amount of healing and that my regen is completed by a SP and sometimes a chaman, what do you think ?
4- If you have any suggestions, advices to help me on my character, I'm here to learn more.
Thx everybody.
Ps : French user, my english can be not as well as yours

If I had an Earring, I would never swap it for anything . It´s just the little extra boost for you in terms of mana problems.
Regards gemming haste, I think its personal preference. As you said, you are mainly healing the raid with CoH. Haste is the best choice to improve your output with CoH, as many others proved before. Just search this thread for the math ^_^.
If you can maintain mana stability throughout the fights, gemming haste is a very viable option in my opinion. If you always get a shadow, it´s a no-brainer in my opinion.

Yeah, fucking Earring. It's pretty cool that theres 4 items left I want in this expansion and 3 of them come from Kil'jaeden while the last one comes from the god damn Lurker Below.
Regarding the [Glimmering Naaru Sliver], I picked one up the other night and was messing around swapping it with [Memento of Tyrande]. Now, the only fight I've had a chance to use it on is Kil'jaeden so far, but I like the results. I was running with 267 haste and definitely found time to get off the entire evocate (only during specific parts of the fight though, obviously). Even if things got too tight I could just cancel it and continue healing.
Most of our attempts ran between the 4-5 minute mark last night (still learning!) and I was using each of the two trinkets for half the time. Wisdom would proc it's 4-5 times during each attempt, but the ability to burst that mana whenever you want (assuming you have a tiny bit of downtime!) is awesome. A couple of times I ended up getting a heroism and it would drop the channel down to 4.3 seconds, which was amazing.

I've more or less replaced my earing. It was awesome going through some of the spam fests in BT before I had the gear to support them, but now im using the alchemests stone and swaping the Eye of Gruul and Blue Dragon card in and out alot. The Earing still definatly has its uses though I think. Are there not phase changes on felmyst where that would be a nice regen boost?

I really can't see any situation where I would replace Earring, that is until I get Sliver. Also ... "I picked up Sliver the other night". You make it sound so casual. Like ... I was out, walking my dog, and hey, there was a sliver on the ground. Picked it up, and I kinda like it!!
(I'm not bitter ... we've only seen 0 drop ... ok, maybe I am a tiny bit bitter
Earring is incredible for Felmyst regen, down-time on Burn healing for Brutallus, transition on Twins, and every single Shadow Spike phase on KJ. That's why I still have it on over anything else; that, and there are only two fights I spam CoH on (Twins, and Felmyst), and Twins I get an innervate if I need it.
The only thing I would use over Earring for M'uru is Darkmoon Card, simply because I burn Earring every single cooldown and get at least 8, usually 10-12 seconds OO5SR through cast-cancel, Clearcasting, and Inner Focus. The 300 spirit boost is sexy.
For Luné above:
1: priests don't typically gem for full haste, although you can if you can guarantee a shadow priest / resto shaman access from now until the end of time. It's very very mana intensive to spam 1.2 second CoH, although the HpS is incredible. I think last time we had a conversation about it, most people were aiming for ~ 250-330 spell haste in their end-game sets. A few run up to 400, but that's a lot more rare, since you have to aggressively gem and itemize for it.
2: Yes, [Glimmering Naaru Sliver] replaces Earring.
3: That's my gemming, basically. Reds are either Spinels or Purified Shadowsong Amethyst, Yellows are Quick Lionseyes, and Blues are Purified Shadowsongs (on new pieces). I still have some Empyreans (spirit) on some old gear.
4: Random suggestions -- put a Quick Lionseye in your T6 chest, and enchant your boots with Boar's Speed. The Mp5 from Vitality isn't as useful as run speed in my experiences; it was only good in T5 content when most fights didn't involve much movement.
Putting 3/3 in Improved PW:S is an odd choice, since the mana efficiency of PW:S is horrible and most priests try to train themselves out of using it overmuch. I use it a *ton* on trash, but rarely if ever on boss fights; usually just if I'm moving and need to cast a couple of heals on the run, I'll PoM before I start moving, PW:S as I'm in the process of running, and toss a Renew / CoH in there as well.

I have 3/3 in Imp PW:S in all my specs and can't see any reason not to have it. I think everyone will agree on that it's not a very strong talent, but it's still better than Silent Resolve - which has zero use in a raid enviorment. Typically you will have aggro on a recently spawned mob regardless of Silent Resolve, then you need to fade and you're on 0 threat anyway. (You could argue that Silent Resolve will save you some fades, but if I see something spawn/a lose mob I fade immediatly anyway.)
I think you also underrate PW:S a bit if you *never* use it on boss fights, I can easily think of a few places in Sunwell where PW:S is very useful.
E: Regarding Boot enchant, Boar's Speed is pretty obvious as run speed is very useful on Kalecgos, Felmyst, M'uru and Kil'jaeden. We don't have that much stamina on our Sunwell gear either, so 9 stam is always welcome.

What's a Purified Empyrean? :P
I've replaced some of my Purified Amethysts with Sparkling Empyreans lately, mainly in my shoulders and in my belt. Do you think you will replace your Sparkling Empyreans with Purified Amethysts in the future? Once I pick up more key pieces from That Bastard M'uru Who Keeps Dropping Plate Healing Pieces To Taunt Me and KJ, I'll reconsider it.
The question is, while I've seen some Golden Staffs floating around, I haven't decided how I plan to gem (red, blue, blue) the weapon itself yet. What do people plan to do, weapon-wise? I've seen some arguments to entirely forget the staff and go for the MH + off-hand from Twins combination, but I'm not planning to do anything of the sort. The staff is purely amazing.
Pinnious, I feel your pain. I'm Earring-less, as well. :(

I disagree. PW:S is useful in some situations, yes, but I cannot understand how you can say that Silent Resolve has "zero use" in a raid environment. PW:S definitely isn't a "required!" spell for me in raids and I often use it myself or my Shadowfiend above a large percentage of it on other players. Saying it has its uses is true, particularly on trash, but I wouldn't entirely strip Silent Resolve of its benefits by saying it's utterly useless -- particularly if you're a COH Priest. Felmyst, anyone? I'd definitely never spec into it over the chance that I can avoid pulling excess amounts of healing aggro in a sticky situation. I do think the Priests in the gauntlet trash entirely overlook the +16% (4/5) resist to dispelling my buffs, though. Aaargh.
I would be interested in seeing some accurate theory-crafting on the percentage of damage absorbed vs. the amount of +healing you have. There's oodles of it out there, but most of it seems entirely incorrect. Ooooh, Constantius?

Wasting a gem for the T6 chest, ... yep why not but I prefer wait M'uru
Concerning the boots, I'm reaching an enchant who can do this for o little time but it was plannified.

It's fair that we disagree on the usefulness of Silent Resolve, but I've been playing without it for a very long time (inlcuding 7 all res on cloak over Subtlety) without any problem at all. Don't take this wrong, but to me it's a l2p-issue if you think Silent Resolve is needed.
Felmyst? You can renew 5-10 targets before one single skeleton has spawned. After that I just heal like crazy and if I happen to have aggro on some, I just run around the concecration and fade. Fade puts on effectivly on zero threat when there is ~20 adds up (can't remember excact number). If you think about it, Felmyst is actually a good reason not to spec Silent Resolve, because of our spectacular aggro dump. If you have heal aggro, it basically means that the tank hasnt touch the mob, so if you spec Silent Resolve and avoid that heal aggro a different healer will have aggro (typically a shaman in my guild). Not a very important point, but still.
Imp PW:S increase my healing, Silent Resolve isn't needed. End of story for me.

I stick with mace from Illidan+offhand from badges (bah) until KJ drops staff - which will be my weapon until expansion. I will gem it 22 healing + 2*11 healing, 5 spirit.

No offense taken. I just don't believe that I use PW:S enough to justify talents taken for it. It's true that I do think Silent Resolve has its uses. Our Shadow Priests do have Improved Fortitude, but we divide buffing duties up among all of us. When we were learning Twins, I dropped Improved Fortitude for Spell Warding and it immensely bothered me if people were late buffing Fortitude on players. I'm one of those people that can't stand if even a pet is missing Fortitude right before a pull. And, as a side-note: You're in your Shadow gear. I want to gawk at your Armory. :)

I'm not sure you should admit that in this thread. We have ways of finding your address, and I think 50 very angry priests are going to hunt you down very soon and administer the beating you clearly deserve.
Pfft, having:
[Mercurial Alchemist Stone]
[Memento of Tyrande]
[Glimmering Naaru Sliver]
[Earring of Soulful Meditation]
to choose from. DIAF! (in the nicest possible way)
I would think the best possible combination for regen would actually work out to (in a high-cast-percentage fight) Memento + Alchemist Stone. While I *do* use my Earring every cooldown, I rarely get all 15 seconds of improved mana regen, and when all is said and done, the difference really is only 1400 mana versus just getting OO5SR regen with my base spirit. Memento procs a fair bit, and restores most of that, while offering 50 more HSE.

Since we're on the topic of Trinkets, my Human priest is currently progressing through Black Temple (Waiting on SR gear for Mother).
I have both
[Earring of Soulful Meditation]
[Darkmoon Card: Blue Dragon]
as well as
[Eye of Gruul]
We will (hopefully) down Illidan soon and our healers will start getting Mementos, and I have found the usefulness of Blue Dragon commented on before in this thread but now that a Memento is a possibility I have questions.
Also, I use my Earring at the same time as my Blue Dragon procs, and I get increased regen via being Human. My group rarely get's a shadow priest, we do however get a Resto Shaman (We run 5 shamans normally, sometimes it spikes to 7).
A) Will a Memento + Earring outperform a Blue Dragon + Earring for:
A1) Bossfights for where I MT heal?
A2) In Sunwell Trash? for which I know nothing about yet
B) Is it in my grace to allow the other healers to get Memento before me. My guild uses Loot Council, so Passing on this highly valued item may put me ahead for other items (Like Crystal Spire which would replace Naaru Gavel)
