I've never used it yet, but as I just hit 80 on Sunday and I'm starting raids, I am starting to see situations where it's going to be desireable. It's basically another Last Stand/Shield Wall type ability for your tank that you can grant them. You can use it if their defensive cooldown is down, or even stack it with their cooldown for a particularly bad frenzy or high damage phase, if your tank is undergeared. I wasn't that excited for this talent, but having seen some of the Naxx/Obsidian encounters, I am starting to see what the usefulness will be. Particularly in the 25-man fights which will last longer, If the boss has 3 frenzy moves in that fight, the tank could pop shield wall on the first, last stand on the second, and get guardian spirit on the third if their first cooldown isn't back up by then. It requires good raid coordination, but I'm thinking that's how I'll want to use that ability when I get it.

Gear Requirments for Naxx
Hey, I recently just hit 80 and our guild is going to be trying to get into naxx very soon. Im finding heroics sorta hard to heal with my current gear. I'm running about
1333 spell power
132 haste
208 mp5 while casting.
I'm Spec'd 14/57/00 for meditation and inner focus
Does anyone know what the suggested base stats are for a priest wanting to walk into Naxx? And do you know if like BC are heroics meant to be run after naxx or to get gear FOR naxx? I remember when BC came out you didn't run heroics till you were in some kara gear due to the rep requirements and difficulty level. I just would like to know what I need to focus on. I'm going to have the moonshroud set made as soon as I get enough moonshroud gathered up. But is there any thing else I should be working toward to be a viable healer in Naxx.
Thanks.

Guardian Spirit is nothing short of amazing. I've been using it every boss encounter so far, but the best scenario was yesterday as we were doing Maexxna25. We got her to 30%, she enrages, but we are far from making it before the next web spray. Two seconds before it hits I put GS on the tank. Six seconds into enrage the tank is at 3% and as ventrilo fills with "oh sh..", the tank suddenly heals to 50%. We are out of web spray a second later, and able to finish the encounter.
I love every aspect of it, as even if your tank doesn't die, you just got buffed heals from everyone in the raid or time for Hymn of Hope when mana is tight.
Regarding gear for naxx and heroics. Amusingly enough I found 5 man heroics harder then both normal and heroic mode raid instances, and rewarding worse gear as well. You want to go 10/25 man naxx/sarth as soon as possible, it drops great loot and isn't too gear dependent (bring lots of mana pots and you'll be fine).

You could probably go with a different trinket other than the Insignia of the Horde. Otherwise, your gear looks pretty good for a new 80.
As far as your spec, you may want to sacrifice a few points in silent resolve for improved inner fire since the threat changes make it less of a 'must have' spell than it used to be. That will also give you a boost to your spell power.

I can't answer your specific question regarding appropriate gear levels for Naxx, but I suspect your spellpower and regen are both low, just based on how I remember things stacking up when I looked at hypothetical level 80 toons with best-in-slot (non-heroic) instance blues.
I'm not going to go into an exhaustive list of possible gear changes and upgrades - after all I don't even know whether the stuff in you armory profile is what you normally raid with - but I do have a general suggestion: I think you are not valuing primary stats, specifically int and especially spirit, highly enough (given your spec).
At lvl 75 I (also a priest, also with a fairly random grab-bag of gear) have 646 int / 680 spirit (total: 1326) , whereas you at lvl 80 have 710 / 550 for a total of only 1260. This is probably because you are overvaluing mp5 (I see it on a lot of your gear) which tends to not be a good choice for holy priests given the way Blizzard's itemization works.

A general note on heroics: Any Priest should be able to heal heroics in lvl80 blues with a Tank on the same gear level. If you have problems with that (aka. you run out of mana repetitously, your tank dies often), you´re doing something wrong. What you do wrong in such a case is impossible to say in general, but especially if you have mana problems you might want to look into speccing Disc, since it is a superior specc in 5mans unless you´re overgeared (in which case the specc does not matter anyway).
The problem I see for Holy Speccs is that CoH is not a particular useful tool in 5mans. You will want to minimize your CoH-usage since it´s too costly in such an environment and with appropriate gear. Concentrate on the tank, make use of Lightwell (it´s good in 5mans, coordination shouldn´t be *that* hard), use especially SoL-FHs to toss quick heals into your group. Also, Inner Focus + PoH is very powerful and helps mana-management - you just have to wait until the group drops a bit lower in HP than you would when using CoH. Make use of Shields to exploit the FSR (Top up the tank -> shield -> regenerate). Minimize your Overhealing.
For most Priests these points will be non-issue since they do all this without really thinking about it. Yet I have the feeling that ~1 year of spamming CoH in raids and being used to near-infinite mana has dulled a good amount of Priests who now encounter problems since they´re simply not used to managing their mana. Think about why you use particular spells at particular times and if you could achieve the same goal more efficiently.
Lastly, don´t forget to review your stats after runs. While there are several useful addons to do this Recount might be the best (or at least the most detailed) one. Look at your numbers, compare Overhealing on different spells, compare the actual HPM of your spells and improve gradually.
Priests have the biggest toolbox of all healers, the biggest challenge is to pick the best fitting tool in a given situation.

My question wasn't "I just hit 80 and what should I gear or spec"
If you read my post it was what is suggested stats for entering naxx. I simply gave a background on my gear. The simple question was that of spellpower and mp5. I recieved your warning and don't really feel you quite understand my post and might want to look into reading it again.
The armory isn't up to date and I have better trinkets ofcourse.

Rapture
I'm hoping to clear up something about Rapture:
I have seen plenty in the few priest threads about how rapture mana returns are dependent on the target's mana pool. (I.E.: Healing a tank or class with a mana pool will proc rapture, but one without a mana pool, such as a warrior, DK, or rogue, will not cause rapture to trigger.) The tooltip gives me no reason to believe that rapture is dependent on anyone's mana pool other than the priest who casts the heal. In other words, I get back mana based on my own mana.
I have read everything here, but have yet to dig back in old patch notes to get a very clear read on what is causing rapture to activate or not, and who's mana pool it is based on.
Could anyone simply confirm that Rapture is not dependent on the heal-target's mana pool or lack thereof, but will always proc and calculate the priest's mana pool?

The bug you are thinking of is specifically for Aegis and Rapture together, not for Rapture in general. Healing a target will return mana to the priest as intended (based on the priest's mana pool), but if a crit heal procs Divine Aegis and the Aegis absorbs damage, *that* Rapture mana refund will be calculated incorrectly, using the mana pool of the target with the Aegis.

You should read this thread in its entirety. Once you have that and you still have questions feel free to send me a Private message.
However, within the thread that Nidaba has posted there are many answers to most questions.

ArmHead, drop the PW: Shield glyph from the Holy list and you seemed to have hit them all on the head. The flash heal glyph is a must for Disc/Holy, and then the obvious CoH glyph for Holy. The PW:Shield one can proc Inspiration and Divine Aegis, so that has added bonus'.
I personally like the Dispel Glyph because at higher gear levels it is looking to be about a 1-1.3k heal.

Guardian Spirit is great, I am very happy I have decided to spec it. We currently run (and will almost always run) with a Holy priest (myself) and a Disc Priest. Upon Maexnna enrages we simply trade off cooldowns. First one I use GS, second one he Pain Suppresses, third one the tank uses their stuff.
This method of trading cooldowns comes very handy if you communicate well. And sometimes it is just nice to have to drop it on someone and sit back for 10ish seconds (using Hymn of Hope during GS is a great idea).
Finally, we should take a lot of these discussions to the compendium thread and let this thread be for specific questions instead of a flowing discussion.

Lots of questions, but I hope that people will find these on topic unlike some of the largely general questions this thread has been getting since page 3....
What is the formula that correlates spell damage to how much is absorbed by PW:S at lvl 80? Is PW:S affected by crit in any way? Is PW:S affected by the talent Twin Disciples?
What is the formula that correlates spell haste base cast time and new cast time at lvl 80?
Is Holy Nova affected by crit for both healing and damage?
Are plus healing, spell haste effects, stamina, etc. provided by talents always the outermost coefficients in calculation formulas for priests? (I ask because I know for some classes talents specifically state "base stats")
Thank you in advance for all your wisedom!

Disc:[Glyph of Flash Heal],[Glyph of Power Word: Shield],[Glyph of Dispel Magic]

I use Flash, PWS and PoH. Strongly considered the Dispel one, and was very dubious about the PoH glyph, but after using it and watching the actual trickle-in values from the followup hot, I'm very happy with it. It makes an efficient spell that much better, and I have gotten a ton of use out of it in 5s and 10s. Having not started 25s yet I can't particularly vouch there, though I suspect it'll still be useful. Inner Focus -> PoH is a staple for me.
|
Is it a bug or intended that Penance and instant spells aren't consuming the Borrowed Time buff?
|
I have no idea if this is a bug but I love it. I can confirm that Penance never consumes my Borrowed Time, but does benefit from the haste. It popped up when the 'instant spells do not consume Borrowed Time' tweak went in -- prior to that Penance was doing everything weird under the sun, except what it was supposed to.

Indeed, good crack. I wish it did. I wish it refreshed Grace, too! It'd be funny to double-bubble even if the Aegis was tiny, if only for the graphical spam.

I am using Glyph of Flash Heal, Glyph of Renew and Glyph of Prayer of Healing. The first I would drop is probably the Renew one, I am finding I am relying less and less on it these days.
The Glyph of Prayer of Healing is amazing. It basically gives my PoH 30k healing on average, assuming one crit. It is arguably better for heroics than raids but even in raids there are plenty of situations where PoH is a very good solution to a problem. With Healing Prayers my PoH cost 1483 mana. All together it offers fantastic bang-per-buck. Only Divine Hymn is better and that is on a long cd.

That's pretty cool. I think I'll have to get the Spirit of Redemption glyph, it should be really annoying in BGs. Currently I have Renew and Dispel Magic but the Renew is not very useful.
Some related questions:
- I assume that the priest's haste rating still applies while he is Spirit of Redemption? I would assume so, and without elaborating right now I will just say that having a high haste rating should have large (and increasing!) returns to the amount of time on average you could spend as SoR.
- can Prayer of Mending (when it leaps from target to target) proc the 4-second duration boost? I would almost assume it has to, since otherwise I don't see how you could reach the 1.5 minute mark...

Sans pvp, where exactly in 25 man raids are we using Dispel Magic frequently and not Mass Dispel? I am finding I am using Abolish Disease (in 5, 10, 25) more than Dispel Magic...
