EDIT: OK, so I completely ran out of time to do anything comprehensive with this. Cata is in just a few days, and I am swamped with work.

What I did do is edit sp00n's spreadsheet with Level 85 AEP values (for hit, I used the values for white hit as capping yellow / spell is something you would do via reforging), and started adding some leveling gear (yellow highlight, my concern was on where to go to get powerful quested gear on the way to 85).

My original post on reputation rewards is below:

Looking over the 8 cataclysm factions previewed by MMO Champion a few days ago, I made the following observations:

Ramkahen: This will be our head enchant faction at Revered (60 agi, 35 haste). There are no rogue-specific epics at Exalted, however there is a blue belt at Revered.

Guardians of Hyjal: Blue chest and neck at Honored, another blue neck at Revered, nothing at Exalted.

Dragonmaw Clan: Blue legs at Honored, epic gloves at Exalted.

Wildhammer Clan: Blue legs at Honored (same stats as above), epic gloves at Exalted (same stats as above). Looks like this rep will be mutually exclusive with Dragonmaw Clan.

Therezane: This is the shoulder enchant rep for every class (two levels, one at Honored, the other at Exalted). There is also a physical DPS ring at Revered.

Earthern Ring: Blue cloak at Revered, Epic ring at Exalted.

Tol Barad Faction: Blue trinket at Honored, Blue mainhand dagger and axe at Revered, Epic trinket at Exalted.

Rewards at Honored: Guardians of Hyjal (chest and neck), Dragonmaw / Wildhammer (legs), Tol Barad (trinket), Therezane (shoulder enchant)

Rewards at Revered: Ramkahen (belt, head enchant), Guardians of Hyjal (neck), Therezane (ring), Earthern Ring (cloak), Tol Barad (mainhands)

Rewards at Exalted: Dragonmaw / Wildhammer (gloves), Earthern Ring (ring), Therezane (shoulder enchant), Tol Barad (trinket)

Possible Strategy: Obviously, do Tol Barad as much as possible. Get Guardians of Hyjal to Honored for 2 blues, then either get Ramkahen to Revered for the belt and head enchant, or work on Dragonmaw / Wildhammer for the legs, and later, the gloves. Next, either do Earthern Ring for the cloak and later, the ring, or Therezane for the shoulder enchants and ring. It may be a good idea to focus on obtaining all possible Honored gear before moving to Revered, and so forth.

Obviously, your priorities may change depending on quest rewards, instance drops and crafted gear. I have not leveled to 85 yet so I don't have much knowledge in this area; feel free to make suggestions and corrections. Hopefully, this will help someone have an optimized leveling and entry-level raiding experience.

Also, don't forget to do 25 dailies and have them ready to turn in on day 1 of Cata; should be a nice little boost.

I expect that mods will want this thread merged into a Cata Pocket Guide topic at some point to avoid forum clutter; obviously that particular thread is not ready to go yet so I made my own for now.

While I like the idea, I think a far more useful mini guide, so to say, would be a pre-raid gear list in total, not just a rep-related one. The crafted epics are pretty much no-brainers I think, but to have the higher ilvl rep rewards and higher ilvl crafted items listed out by slot (with a rough ordering based on sample weights) and then filled in with heroic drops for the slots with little to nothing better would make a fine resource for rogues gearing up to raid.

Not sure if you're up for that much work or not, but it would certainly be a very valuable guide were it completed by launch. Just a thought.

While I would not mind putting something like that together, it may be a good idea to get some input from a few people that have already leveled to 85 on beta. There's a lot of data floating around about Cataclysm, and a lot of it is out of date.

Leatherworking: Kaliope's WoW Crafting Blog: Cataclysm Leatherworking Recipes from the Beta Realm

Looking at this link, I see the following:

Epic Cloak (there's always an epic cloak...)
Epic Chest

There's also a bunch of level 81-83 greens which can possibly be used to fill holes until we can get a full level 85 set. The "bloodied" blues series is PvP gear but could probably double as PvE gear (certainly better itemized than our ilvl 277-284 epics).

Quested Gear:

Helm:

Shocktrooper Hood: Level 84, Twilight Highlands
Dunwald Winged Helm: Level 84, Twilight Highlands, probably mutually exclusive with the above
Helm of Secret Knowledge: Level 84, Grim Batol, obvious choice for entry-level dungeons.
Mask of Vines: Dungeon drop, no idea where from.
Helm of Numberless Shadows: Also a dungeon drop, no more info available.

I will continue working on this as I get more free time.

First, the cloak - wowhead and mmo-champion both have it listed as a blue Razor-Edged Cloak. Do you have reason to believe Kaliope's blog is more correct?

There's also a crafted belt - Belt of Nefarious Whispers.

I'm not sure how the mods would view this listing ... it seems that in the past, the direction has been to use the available tools/spreadsheets to work out BiS sets rather than have multiple people post such lists.

Edit: Wowhead tooltips apparently broken, following the link takes you to the right place.

Speaking as a moderator: I'm fine with the notion of putting together a leveling type guide of quests rewards to look for, reps to level, and so on. If it starts turning into nothing but BIS lists for each of seventeen possible gear levels, I'll have to put a stop to it. Note that either way the thread's getting locked within a month or so once the initial leveling flurry is past.

Quest reward trinkets seem to be few and far between, much unlike WotLK. Schnott's Medallion of Command stands out as the thing one would want to pick up along the way to 85 thanks to a load of passive agility. There's also an interesting BoE: Heart of the Vile with apparently no known drop location. But if you can get a hold of those two, they should fare you nicely until heroic dungeons (given that Darkmoon cards might not be obtainable for a lot of people early on).

Also perhaps unsurprisingly Spinerender makes a triumphant return, with probably just as abysmal a drop chance as its previous incarnations. But apart from that, thrown slot has just two high-level alternatives in the form of a heroic dungeon boss drop (which is likely the most realistic option to get) and what appears to be a raid trash drop (also BoE).

Strickly based on leveling progression. If you do Hyjal first you should easily get to honored if not revered by completing all the quests there. The other choice is Vash'jr which gives you Earthen Ring rep, so for us rogues it's probably best to start in Hyjal.

Next we head to Deepholm. The first few quests are earthen ring rep, then you start the chain for therezane, again doing all the quests here should give us at least honored with Therezane. There are dailies once you finish the chain.

Uldum is next and again doing all the quests should get you at least honored with Ramkahen. There are more dailies here.

Twilight Highlands is the last zone with either Dragonmaw or Wildhammer rep for Horde/Alliance again doing all the quests should get you at least honored. Probably dailies here, wasn't really looking and beta is down now.

For all the factions once you are friendly you can buy a tabard to give you rep in level 85 dungeons, buy them all as you are in the area.

So just by leveling you should get at least honored with all the factions, which with the quest rewards will give you a decent starter set of gear.

Earlier in the beta, the crafted 346 gear was epic. At some point, almost everything got changed to heroic-quality blues, probably due to a change in gear philosophy by Blizzard.

I like this topic, It's nice to have some strategy to get geared in the early 85s
Shaithis: mask of vines is purchaseable with JPs.

I was compiling a list of gear I can obtain easily too, and I haven't found a head gear besides this one (346), not even in heroic instances. So i guess it's good to spend the initial JPs obtaining that. Better now that blizzard said they will fix the meta gem requirement.

Maybe this thread could have some discussion about specs/builds to level too? I am afraid to start one and get warned (and I haven't seen one about it)

I put together my own list of "bis" pre-raid level 85 gear for Assassination about a week ago using the Wowhead database and Aldriana's (very?) tentative ep weights posted in the "Cataclysm Rogue Changes" thread a couple weeks ago. I spent quite a bit of time on it and I feel it's a very strong line-up of pre-raid gear although I'd certainly be open to amending it given any oversights on my part.

It is complete with reforging, gems and enchants albeit with some liberties taken regarding trinket choices and a bias toward leatherworking embossing since I am a leatherworker. Out of respect for these forums and heeding Aldriana's warning above I'm holding off on posting it at the moment. I'd be glad to send the list to anyone who sends me a pm requesting it. Likewise, I'd be glad to post it up if requested by someone with a bit of weight around here.

Its worth noting that the stat weights are changing due to updated mechanics - mastery in particular is significantly more valuable due to the envenom change. I'll be posting updated EP weights and the gear list I used to generate sometime over the long weekend - there's a few more things I need to test and tweak first. In the meantime I'd hold off from drawing any major conclusions from the previously-posted EP weights.

Thanks for completng that list sp00n. I got really busy at work and didnt get the chance to work on it further. I sorted my list by ilvl within each slot and plan on sorting them by EP values once those are nailed down a bit more in the coming weeks. I also like the look of yours and will probably change mine to match when i have a bit of time.
