Envenom damage is poison damage, that's what the tool tip says, so i did a little test on the dummy, had no buffs at all, just poisons and i went to hit the Raider's Training Dummy in SW. After hitting it for ~5 minutes I checked my damage on recount. (at this point i had Rupture glyph) What i have noticed is that average rupture tick (non-crit) was 731 damage which multiplied by 10 is 7310 damage was average rupture (non-crit), while I also checked my average Envenom hit was 16247 (non-crit). So I came to a conclusion that it might be better to always Envenom instead of Rupture since it does much more damage for the same combo points spent, furthermore if you aren't using Rupture then there is no need to use Glyph of Rupture, so instead you can use Glyph of Vendetta (Glyph of Rupture is better yes, but if you aren't using Rupture the glyph is waste obviously). I didn't take the crits in consideration because both Rupture and Envenom had about the same crit chance (Envenom had slightly higher crit chance but that is because of Cold Blood)
While performing this test i was using the standard rotation (which is written on this forum). All the Rupture and Envenoms were performed on 4 or 5 CP.
Does any of this make sense? Or am I making a big mistake? Maybe it will be totally different in raid, I didn't test it in raid yet, i just tested it on a dummy 20 minutes ago when the idea struck my mind. Please share your opinions.
You'll almost always want to do your best to keep rupture up, not necessarily for the damage rupture alone does, but for Venomous Wounds procs.

Energy regen makes for a happy time.

Venomous wounds. Big mistake.

Dummy tests are not helpful for estimating the damage of abilities, either, but that's neither here nor there.

Oh, I totally forgot about Venomous Wounds... (stupid me)
The energy return is great, 60% on 10 ticks is 6 times 10 energy = 60, really nice + I didn't count the damage of Venomous Wounds.
Sorry about a dumb post and thanks a lot for your quick answer!

No, that list does not have the buffed DMC:H listed in the correct place. To find out exactly where it ranks for you, the obvious answer is to use Shadowcraft (which does use the correct version of the trinket).

I can't access Shadowcraft right now from my work computer (old version of IE) in order to give you a better idea of its ranking so please take this with a grain of salt, but if I remember correctly it is somewhere in the neighborhood of Fluid Death and Heroic Essence. Again, that is solely from memory and to highlight that it is now better than at least Ricket's and the regular Petrified Seed.

I have it just ahead of Fluid Death and behind Heroic Essence as well (I'm at 365 gear level, if that matters).

Thats not quite clear... because... depends on the spec... Tia's grace HC is so much better for assasination rather for combat... unless all these are taken into account

Trinket Question

Ok, I have a crazy trinket question that is likely going to get my laughed out of here, but please bear with me and point out the problems with the crazy scenario I am going to try and explain.

So lets assume you have the PVP trinket Ruthless Gladiator Badge of Conquest that gives 2029 agi for 20 sec with a two minute CD, but you are playing PVE and the trinket is otherwise worse than your PVE trinkets. I know when you equip a trinket with a use ability it triggers that abilities CD to prevent you from hot swapping trinkets, but the same is not true when you unequip it. So here is the complex scenario which could be made much easier with macros:

- You have your standard PVE gear including trinkets equipped.
- Prior to a battle (or during), you equip the trinket, Ruthless Gladiator Badge of Conquest, triggering its CD.
- You immediately unequip it and either keep a mental 2 min track or create some other gui which tracks when the trinket will come off CD.
- A few seconds prior to the trinket CD from resetting, you re-equip it and wait. I am pretty sure this does not affect the CD.
- Once the trinket CD resets, you use it and either wait the full 20 sec of use (not sure you have to) or you just unequip it after use.
- You are back to your normal PVE trinket and your PVP trinket is back on CD so you could theoretically rinse/repeat.

I know the concept of hot-swapping weapons and/or trinkets has been discussed before, and I know the general concept is that hot-swapping does not work or is not worthwhile, but where is the flaw in this plan other than it is complicated? I am trying to figure out if it is worth the effort creating a few macros to cause this to happen.

Feel free to fire away and no I am not trolling.

im pretty sure the trinket buff will disappear when swapping trinkets.
furthermore you cant swap gear while in combat, besides weapons.

This is the assassination thread though.

@maleficus Your understanding of the mechanics seems off. Putting a trinket on and then unequipping it to start the cooldown does nothing. When you equip it again, the cooldown will start again. Next, no trinket switching as all during combat. The best you can do is if you have 2 passive trinkets, you can equip one with an on-use, wait for the cooldown, use it right before the pull and then equip your passive trinket before the pull. If you are slow, then you lose dps because you have the wrong trinket equipped. Also, this doesn't work with most trinkets, but I believe it works with []. Prepopping that won't really up your dps by a lot, not like it might for some other classes, and you might be limited by positioning, but it's an option.

The [Moonwell Chalice] swapping doesn't work anymore, the buff fades now when unequipping the trinket as with every other trinket.

I'm pretty sure you meant Moonwell Chalice. That's been reported as hot-fixed. And I just tested it, so it's confirmed. You now loose the mastery buff as soon as you unequip the Chalice.

So it's the time of year to get pissed again as the Brewfest is rolling at full speed. Interestingly though, one of the rewards [Direbrew's Bloodied Shanker] seems to have abandoned the itemization rules and has 2.00 speed. My question is, how big of an impact is this on output? Could this weapon beat 372s, and maybe even 378s, or is the difference much more marginal?

For assassination, no. The only attack that would benefit from the slower speed is the main hand part of mutilate, which is like 7-10% of your damage. The extra agility on a 378 would outweigh it.

It would help sub a lot more since backstab + hemo + ambush is like 50-60% of sub's damage and they scale way better with mainhand damage than mutilate, but I still think 378s would be better.
