Using RvS on 4cp before refreshing SnD is actually the way to go, since it increases the chance to not waste a combo point. The debuff holds longs enough to be able to use a buffed Eviscerate right after refreshing SnD.
You should however remember not to use RvS again (overwriting the debuff), or it'll be a DPS loss.

I can not see using RvS on 4cp before SnD yielding any additional benefit. The reduction of wasted combo points from SS will always be the same in the end and will equal to the number of Eviscerates made. No matter if RvS is used before SnD too or only before Evis.

The benefit is on the next eviscerate. 35% increased damage on evi/rupture if your SS from 3 combo points procs the glyph, whereas if you had used SS at 4 cps before SnD, you would have no bonus damage to your next finisher

Well you're not wasting that one combo point that might have procced from the SS glyph when you were going from 4 to 5 CPs to refresh SnD if you're using RvS instead. Of course that might nullify itself if you're landing at 4 CP for the next finisher as well, but the resulting CP waste is never greater than otherwise, so you can only gain of it (unless you're overwriting your RvS debuff of course).

And additionally, which I forgot to mention earlier, using this strategy you increase your chance to use a buffed finisher for the first damaging finisher in your rotation (the one right after having refreshed SnD), because now you have two possible scenarios where you're at 4 CPs and can use RvS opposed to only one (SnD and the next damaging finisher vs. only the next damaging finisher).

Not to mention the fact that if say, you're in yellow insight and use RvS before refreshing SnD, all 5 combo points for the following Eviscerate will be created by Sinister Strikes at red insight level.

I've been using Rawr and its saying that Assassination is the best as far as single target dps. Is this correct? I'm in LFR ilvl ~384 gear with 4pc t13 and the first epic daggers on the legendary quest. I'm trying to decide on assassination vs subtlety for single target fights, but not sure what to do in the absence of hard data from Shadowcraft (Aldriana's post says its simming low for... some unknown reason). I do see some top end rogues going as assassination though. Would I be better to switch from sub, and if so for what fights in DS?

Hi!

I'm simply wondering if the poison 4% damage debuff from savage combat stacks with, say, an arms warriors blood frenzy 4% raidwide debuff and arcane tactics? I assume it stacks with arcane tactics, but what about raidwide damage debuffs? It's a personal 4% so i got to believe it does, but i'd appreciate some confirmation. Thanks.

Savage Combat and Blood Frenzy shouldn't stack with each other but they will stack with the BM/Arcane Mage talents.

4% physical damage taken debuff from Savage Combat is raidwide in a sense that it applies to all physical damage done against target that's poisoned by you. And thus it doesn't stack with its warrior or DK equivalents.

Arcane Tactics or any other sort of buff/debuff stacks with Savage Combat as long as it provides any type of bonus other than physical dmg taken.

You can play around with different buffs/debuffs compositions using MMO-Champion RaidComp for instance.

Speaking of stacking, does anyone know if the damage bonus from TotT fails to stack with any other temporary damage bonus?

Generally if it's a raw percentage-based increase (doesn't increase only certain abilities) it won't stack with Tricks. This includes Avenging Wrath, Wrecking Crew, Arcane Power, Death Wish, other Tricks buffs (this one is kind of obvious), etc.

The best targets for tricks are fire mages and other rogues usually, though frost DKs, dps druids, dps shamans, or shadow priests aren't terrible choices if they're doing more damage.

It does stack with wrecking crew, arcane power, and death wish. These abilities don't do the same thing as tricks, they just do similar things. All of them increase your physical or magical damage by a percentage, while tricks increases *all* damage by a percentage. Thus, not providing the same buff, they aren't exclusive with each other.

The best target for tricks is whomever is doing the most dps when you cast it. This means at the start of a fight it's excellent to cast on a lock who will be applying dots that will retain the buff, for example, especially bane of doom. Or heavy aoe classes during aoe phases such as black yor'sahj: boomkin, demo locks, shadow priests. Unless one of your dps is lagging dramatically behind, it's not going to make very much difference who you tricks. 2% of 38.5k is 770 dps, and 2% of 42 is 840, so we're talking differences on the order of 50-100 dps.

This may seem like a lame question, but since it IS the simple question thread I saw nowhere else to put it. Where exactly did the thread that had the gear sheet go? It seems to have gone poof.

If you're talking about the sheet I created (Cataclysm Gear Sheet), it hasn't moved, but if you're talking about the old Rogue DPS sheets, they have been replaced with Shadowcraft (thread here).

You have to change how you see the forums in your profile. Do some digging and you'll find it. The default setting is to only show threads that have been replied to somewhat recently and hide the rest.
