What happened to the raid mechanics thread that talked about specific tips? I thought I saw one during the beta. It would be great help to see a thread like that again while I work my way through MoPs bosses.

It's actually still there, you have to go into your account settings and change how far back you want threads to show. By default I believe they're hidden if no one replies in 3 months.

Edit: Instructions on exactly what to change to see older threads: User CP -> Edit Options. About 1/2 way down the screen under the " Thread Display Options" catagory. there will be a setting labeled "Default Thread Age Cut Off". Change that to Show all Threads.

Pardon me if this had been answered already, I skimmed through the simple questions thread and didn't find a clear cut answer.

Q: How long are our Legendaries good for? What will be the first set of daggers to replace them?

Thank you.

I'd suggest to replace them at latest once you have a pair of 463 lvl90 dungeon weapons.

Are the legendary daggers still of any use in combat spec?

Same rules apply, once you have ilvl463 weapons, retire them to the bank.

I haven't played since just after Cataclysm launched, so I'm extremely behind on the times. I'm confused about Expertise and Hit. I've been told all I need is a combined 7.5% between the two to get spell hit capped. I've also been told I need both Expertise and Hit at 7.5%. I looked at both the Assassination and Combat threads for the answer but didn't see anything. So which is it? Thanks!

There is no "spell hit cap" as such anymore for Rogues. Poisons use the melee hit table now, and getting melee hit to 7.5% will make sure poisons no longer miss.

Expertise is independent from that, but it's still a good stat for most specs. How good, that depends; Combat for example will want to cap it, while Assassination does not prioritize it over Mastery. The expertise cap is also 7.5%, at which point enemies will no longer dodge.

You should look at the stat priorities for your respective spec to find out whether you want to cap expertise or not. 7.5% hit is a high priority for every spec and should always be aimed for.

Shared Kick cd??

I have noticed that sometimes when I am going to interrupt with kick that something has put my kick on cd (and not a previous kick). Does anything share a cd with kick? I have not been able to see exactly how long the cd is and really do not know what could have put it on cd. The only thing I can think of is that I do use cheap shot as a stun/interrupt and maybe that is it.

I know this is a super minor issue and really only comes up when I am doing rep dailies and yes I could easily live with the problem as is, but it is annoying and I have not heard mention of it before.

Kick is on a longer 15 second cooldown now. Could that be what you are seeing?

Are you hitting a button that overlaps with kick from the stealth bar? such as stealth you hit button 4 and then kick is also button 4. If you spam it in stealth they changed something server side and it checks on your out of stealth bar faster and will waste kick.

Has anyone modeled TotT since we lost our 2pc T13? I'm wondering because my RL is asking about the most effective target and/or the net loss of dps to the rogue and how it all weighs out. Anyone have data on this?

It should still be used on cooldown to increase raid dps. The damage gained by the players is greater than the personal dps lost by the rogue.

As far as the dps lost by the rogue, its 20 energy every 30 seconds, which is 2/3 energy lost per second if you average it. So about 1 mutilate lost every minute. After that the numbers get to complicated for napkin math. But I am certain that this dmg loss is less than the average 3% dps gain you are giving someone else.

I think tricks is 15 energy, but that only supports your conclusion even more.

I don't know how to calculate the damage loss from 0.5 energy per second, and i think it would be gear/spec/specific. I do know that simming a T14 normal geared assassination rogue in simcraft, he goes from approx 88.2k to 86.8k when tricks is added to the rotation.

So assuming a true 3% gain for your target (this is dependent on spec and where in their rotation your tricks happens to hit them. But it's generally close)

1.4k / 0.03 = 46.7k

As long as your target is doing over 46.7k it's a boost for the raid to use tricks. I would imagine if you are at a gear level capable of doing 80k+ on a single target then there are plenty of people in your raid doing well over 47k.

As far as who is best to receive it, it's usually safe enough to just pick the highest dps. Although if that's a hunter or another class where a pet is a big portion of their dps, I'm not sure if the pet gets the bonus, so you may want to skip over them to the highest dps non-pet user. But I don't know for sure if that's the case.

edit: that 46.7k number is obviously specific to this example, if you do less than 88k, that cutoff would be lower. I think it's safe to say the general conclusion is correct that tricks is a raid boost as long as you aren't way higher in damage than every other person in the raid.

Something else to consider when using tricks is burst damage. While it is generally too confusing to figure out who's proccing or whatever, there are some simple things that you CAN do. TotT on a ret/ele/mage during opening burst, for example. (A lock may be better, depending on whether their dots retain the buff after it ends... not sure on that). Also, fight mechanics can be important. You can TotT someone who just came out of the spirit realm on Gara'jal, for example. On 10 man elegon, perhaps you have a dps who struggles to kill his orb on your final wave.
