Poisons benefit from AP only, they are modified by spellcrit. They do not scale off spellpower ( personal buffs ). They do however, scale off of spellhit/damage ( debuffs ).

If I am not mistaken there is not a single SpellPower Buff implemented in the Spreadsheet.
There are however multipliers to Spelldamage. These increase Poisondamage by some percent value and work as one would expect.
Since Poisons scale with AP and not with Spellpower the Food should have no further effect.

Just out of curiosity, has it actually been tested if poisons are affected by spellpower? Not that it would make any difference (effect would be too low anyway comparing to other buff food), it's more like an academical question.

In another thread it came to my notice that the spreadsheet thinks that Hit gems are superior to AP when you're below 237 even when Heroic Presence is active (Ie Poison Cap is actually 210)
Is this a oversight from the time spellhit and hit were seperate?

Spell power buffs do not affect poisons, only AP now. Spell power debuffs however do, which is what the spreadsheet should have.

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but it seems there's an issue with exp being added. I've looked through my gems and items and all the values are correct but, it's still showing me sitting at 6.28% instead of 6.25%. I'm currently useing 0.4.7.LK version of the sheet. Not really that big of a deal, just thought I'd mention it though.

Answered a page ago: The Roguecraft Spreadsheet

Character screen rounds expertise down to nearest whole value. But has been shown game mechanics do not round so spreadsheet is reflecting that. You're overcapped in expertise.

First, make sure you aren't telling the spreadsheet to envenom with the double IP setup (the sheet isn't designed to catch this, you have to change it to eviscerate manually). If you've already done this, then the spreadsheet is accurate provided someone else is poisoning the target for you; the spreadsheet defaults to assuming that the target is always poisoned, if this is not the case, you should set 'Talents & Settings' cell I22 to false and rerun the comparison.

If you've already done all of this and the spreadsheet is showing IIV with double webbed death to be superior dps, then in all likelihood it *is* superior dps in your current situation.

That's the conclusion with my gear aswell (Dual Webbed is better), however swaping the Webbed Death in Mh with your Sinister Revenge once 3.1 hits will yield an increase in DPS

Since the discussion of reduced Mongoose proc rates began here, I decided this is the best place to continue said discussion. A couple things have bothered me about WoLK conclusions on this subject. The general philosophy has been that the proc rate has been diminished because its an old enchant (like how crusader was nerfed entering BC). What bothers me most is that lately Blizzard has been pretty good about tagging items that have these lesser returns. In fact, some items now carry a tag like, "may fail against targets above level 83", when there will not be any such targets until a new expansion if history holds true.

The crux of the Mongoose situation is as follows: in BC it was fairly well established to proc at a rate of ~1.2 PPM. Early WoLK testing is showing a proc rate around 0.8-1.0 PPM. What's odd is some people seem to have noticed that the proc rate doesn't seem to decrease until you start hitting the boss dummies. Again, people have jumped to the conclusion that this is because it is an old enchant.

As a result I decided to do a little testing on Berserking, an enchant that seems to act very similarly to Mongoose (and Executioner) in terms of having a similar proc rate and no internal cooldown. I did a couple small quick tests in order to see baseline procs rates. I was also looking at a couple other things hence the changing of a couple other items hence the change in stats.

Test #1 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking; 373 haste rating; attacking from behind on the level 80 target dummy; auto-attacks only on Live.

Results: 20 procs in 801 successful hits gives a haste adjusted PPM of 1.1918 PPM. Very similar to the BC Mongoose value of 1.2 PPM.

Test #2 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking; 431 haste rating; attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on Live.

Results: 14 procs in 786 successful hits gives a haste adjusted PPM of 0.8637 PPM. Eerily similar to the diminishing returns noted for Mongoose yet this is a level 80 enchant.

Let's start by stating this is a very small sample set yet, it certainly leads to further investigation. Now, thinking back to BC when Mongoose was tested, there was no such thing as a Heroic training dummy. The 1.2 PPM was established on lower level mobs due to the difficulty in testing on an actual boss mob. Now, what if boss mobs have always reduced weapon enchant proc rates and we just didn't notice it. We know bosses have a non-linear increase in miss rate, chance to be critted. It is my belief that this proc rate reduction is a previously undiscovered boss effect.

As a result of the above, I did a larger followup test.

Test #3 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking; 0 haste rating; attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on PTR.

Results: 59 procs in 2781 successful hits gives a PPM of 0.9092 PPM. This is really looking like Berserking shows the same behavior as Mongoose. If I throw a number at it, call it a 25% proc rate reduction or the assumption that the base PPM of Mongoose/Executioner/Berserking are the same and 1.2 PPM but are reduced to 0.9 PPM vs. mobs 3 levels higher.

It looks as if this requires a little more investigation.

I'm not done. I also ran a couple other short tests on boss mechanics. The other one that bothered me was the reduction in boss spell crit rate. Whereas the boss crit rate reduction was well tested with a solid methodology, I could not find the testing on spell crit rate reduction. I did a quick test to confirm the 4.8% number to my satisfaction (something like a 1000 swings with just under 4.8% crit) and noticied 0 crits so I was satisfied with that result. I did the same with spell crit which leads to the next test.

Test #4 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking and 1.3 speed Finkle's Skinner both with Wound poison; 137 crit rating (2.9844% spell crit); attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on PTR. No talent points spent.

Since the spell crit reduction is supposed to be 3%, I expected not to see any crits with a quick test. Since spells are on a 2-roll system, the important results are successful crits vs. successful hits.

Results: 5 wound poison crits on 480 successful wound poison applications = 1.0417% crit rate. Well, clearly somthing is wrong here...

So I did a couple other quick tests...

Test #5 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking and 1.3 speed Finkle's Skinner both with Wound poison; 103 crit rating (2.2437% spell crit); attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on PTR. No talent points spent.


Results: 0 wound poison crits on 622 successful wound poison applications. Nothing conclusive, but a start...

Test #6 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking and 1.3 speed Finkle's Skinner both with Wound poison; 127 crit rating (2.7665% spell crit); attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on PTR. No talent points spent.


Results: 1 wound poison crits on 34 successful wound poison applications. Got one early...

Test #5 - 1.4 speed Webbed Death with Berserking and 1.3 speed Finkle's Skinner both with Wound poison; 115 crit rating (2.5051% spell crit); attacking from behind on the Heroic target dummy; auto-attacks only on PTR. No talent points spent.

Results: 1 wound poison crits on 464 successful wound poison applications = 0.2155%. So we know its less than this...

Well, its pretty clear the spell crit reduction vs bosses is not 3%. It's clearly 2.5% or lower. 2.5%; 2.4%; 2.25% are nice even numbers that show promise. I wouldn't rule out 2% as 622 hits is not a large sample size.

I'm not sure I'll have much time to do much further testing, but maybe this will help others in the community pin down these issues.

It might be worth testing if it is the glancing blows that causes the lower mongoose/berserking procrate aswell. Might be a stupid theory but until someone comes here and tells me otherwise, I'll try and see if I can get some testing done.

Just at a casual glance, this seems somewhat likely, since glancing blows occur 24% of the time and 76% of 1.2 is 0.912.

DMM, if you have the combat logs from those tests, it might be useful to look for A) If there are any procs off of glancing hits and B) Figuring out the "effective" PPM by looking at non-glancing hits vs procs over time, to see if that matches up with the "expected" 1.2.

This post seems to agree with the lower Berserking proc rate, though I can't tell if he had a higher PPM on the lower level dummies or not (the author does mention the target's level didn't affect PPM, though).

If there's still need, I can fire up some tests tomorrow after work. I have GC/WD with Berserking, LPC and still both Warglaives with Mongoose on test server (vendored the LPC on live just today).

CG or main hand Warglaive might be interesting for glancing blows, since they are less suspectible to lag issues (swing -> proc) in the combat log. Of course testing would also take longer, having fewer swings per seconds.


What would be a decent attack duration / number of swings?

So I've attack 2x 60 minutes the heroic test dummy on the PTR with nothing equipped but two weapons.
Main hand was LPC with Mongoose enchant, OH was WD with Berserking.

(It was not exactly 120 minutes of attacking, since the PTR seems to have some hiccups and I got teleported back to Dalaran for no obvious reasons once.)

As you can see, there was virtually no difference between Mongoose and Berserking in terms of procs and PPM during my testing. I should repeat the test with some more haste rating to find out if anything changes in terms of PPM. Currently I'm running with only the MH Warglaive equipped, enchanted with Mongoose, so see if I can determine if there was a proc from a glancing blow.

I finally got some time to do some testing, I'm not that experienced with statistical analysis so I'll leave that to someone more knowledgeable. I'm just gonna post the data I've gotten so far.

The test was done almost naked (mainly just to get some dodges/misses with a lower critrate). 2.6 speed CG with berserking as MH, no OH. 136 haste rating (4.15%), 64 hit rating (1.95%), 18.22% crit and 0 expertise versus the heroic training dummy with a 17/0/54 spec on live.

Miss: 301
Dodge: 300
Parry: 0
Total missed attacks(miss+dodge+parry): 601
Berserking procs: 179

Combatlog of 5000 MH attacks with a 2.6 speed weapon

Wrote a few lines of code to check if glances can proc berserking. Results say that glancing blows does indeed proc berserking.
The code simply checks for a berserking proc, finds the swing that procced it, and checks what type of swing it was (hit/crit/glance).

Edit: Due to a typo in my parser code, I didn't pick up the SPELL_AURA_REFRESH events, and because of that didn't show the right number of procs. I've updated the output, it should be correct now.

I aborted my Warglaive test now since that it cleared up. Results so far were 2562 swings, 2202 landed swings, 88 procs, 4% chance to proc on landed swing, 0.8564 PPM. I had 0 haste for this run.

@sp00n: Your tables listing PPM for landed hits without glancings are using the same number of berserking procs with less swings, but we already showed that glancings can proc berserking. Don't you have to exclude the berserking procs from glancing hits in your summary for "Landed w/o glancing" or am I missing something?

Edit: My data showed 27 berserking procs from critical hits, 97 from hits and 55 from glancing hits. (124 procs from non-glancing hits). So shouldn't you use 124 procs for calculating PPM in the "Landed w/o glancing" column?
