Cherubael's Rogue Spreadsheet
This spreadsheet is simply put, pretty much exactly the same as Vulajin's. All credit goes to him for its creation and the link to his original sheet can be found here: http://elitistjerks.com/f78/t27244-r...t_spreadsheet/
The current differences are: - Gear sets can be created, saved and deleted - A wishlist containing best possible rogue gear is saved within Current Version: Rogue_DPS_Cherubael_0.4.7.xls I appreciate that not everyone is an excel genius, so I will now tell you how to move your saved gear sets from one version of the sheet into another. 1. Download the new sheet. 2. Open the new and the old sheet. 3. In both sheets follow the menu options at the top: "Format" > "Sheet" > "Unhide..." > "Gear Sets" 4. Select the "Gear Sets" sheet in both workbooks. 5. Copy and paste the whole column from the old worksheet into the new one. 6. Select the "Gear Sets" sheet and follow the options "Format" > "Sheet" > "Hide" |
Congratulations on the initiative.
There was a spreadsheet before which showed you possible upgrades and featured an import function, made by dontmindme i think. Do you plan to implement any of those features? |
The important things for me as a rogue when I look at this spreadsheet are to quickly and efficiently understand two things.
- How to maximise my dps with my current equipment. - What my ideal equipment would be. The only improvements I would personally want to make to the sheet would be to enhance those goals. At the same time, I understand that Vulajin's spreadsheet and the version of it I modified above provide a service to the rogue community and that enhancing that service is a worthy ambition. So the answer to your question is that although I have not yet planned that functionality, nothing is impossible and if I see an opportunity to efficiently implement those improvements, there is no reason why I would not take it. |
I thank you for your effort, but from a development standpoint, wouldn't it make sense to combine versions instead of creating two divergent versions?
If you have updates to his spreadsheet, possibly just send them to him to check them over and implement them as a new version or release. The only reason I can see for divergent versions is if you two disagree on features to implement, which may very well be the case. |
Vulajin can correct me if I'm mistaken, but he's always been pretty firm on maintaining OO compatibility, something that you can't really do when adding extensive macros like Armory Import, etc.

Im curious, on your gear page, you have a section titled "equivalence non-sense":
You have some values here that dont seem to change as your gear changes.. MH speed +.1 = -540? -540 what? Poison DPS? Can you please explain what each of the 4th vertical column values represent? And more importantly, how you came to these conclusions? |
If you follow the link at the top of those values "Equivalence Nonsense", You will go to a website which will show you what the "best" gear is you can get using those equivalence values.
They are the values I calculated by varying individual stats by 20 and then dividing the change in DPS by 20. The weapons were varied by 0.4 and then tweaked a bit and the dps change divided by 0.4 again to get a value of the dps difference of decreasing weapon speed. All these calculations were made with wishlist gear on. The reason I call it "nonsense" is because some of the items listed are incorrectly placed first on the wishlist either due to set bonus issues, or reasons unknown. Either way using equivalence to decide on gear upgrades is not necessarily the best solution. I would aim to get the items indicated on the wishlist gear set and leave equivalence out of it. About collaboration with Vulajin, I truly hope he decides to take my sheet and update it instead so I don't have to produce a new one every time he does, but we have not talked about it. |

- It breaks OO compatibility. - I consider such features unnecessary fluff; I'd rather spend my time developing the actual calculations to be accurate. Other people are perfectly free to add such features, but I prefer they do so separately because I would rather their features did not become part of the updating process. As it is, I can churn out an update to the sheet very rapidly because I know every nook and cranny of it, and also because I don't have to go through someone else's work to make sure my changes don't break anything. I'm not interested in losing that. - Saving talent builds is completely against the point of the sheet, which is to encourage people to figure things out for themselves. It's the same reason why the sheet doesn't just model specific cycle permutations such as 2s/5r, but rather entire classes of cycles for which you can specify any number of CP. If you have a bunch of saved talent builds, you're more likely to just choose one of them rather than do even the most rudimentary experimentation to figure out whether there might be a more optimal arrangement. With that said, I'm extremely appreciative that people seem to like the sheet enough to develop modified versions or additions to extend its functionality to include these types of features. As long as the calculations are accurate and are being used in some fashion, be it through my original version or through anyone else's modified version, to help rogues gear and perform optimally, I'm happy. (edit) I realize that my third point addresses something that isn't actually implemented in Cherubael's version of the sheet. Still, the argument can be generalized. :p |
Additions
I would love to see a "Gear Upgrade" button, along with that the source of the items. This would add a great deal of functionality for people to see what they can improve on, and how they can get it.
It would be nice if there was an option so the user could input any weapon, ie right now I have the Merciless weapons which is not on your sheet, but there is not a way to manually enter it either. Armory update would obviously be nice, but I think the gear upgrade with source would provide the most useful function for users. Just some thoughts... |

I get about 50 less dps with your sheet, in comparison to Vulajin's and I think I found the reason. The sheet doesn't seem to count the crit from CQC. At least my crit doesn't rise in the 'DPS' section when I "spec" CQC, while it does when I do it with Vulajin's original sheet.
|
Actually I made the upgrade function for Dontmindmes sheet, and I'm working on one that performs the same function for the Roguecraft. But it will be a separate workbook, able to read Vulajin's for data. I respect his desire to keep his o:o compatible, but I dont dont agree that convienence and ease of use is 'fluff'.

The calculations for some of the item bonuses resulting from gems seems to be broken on the gear spreadsheet.
The item in question bonus (from the specific stats sheet, column 16) is compared against the names in row E. If they match then the bonus gets added if the gemming matches. The problem is that some of the names have been abbreviated on the gear sheet. For example stamina is listed as sta. Because "sta" doesn't match "stamina" an applicable bonus is never picked up. I don't see these abbreviations in Vulajin's LK 0.4.3 workbook. |
