It's only effective while you are actually casting a spell. So casting an instant spell won't do anything, nor would casting a spell with a 5 stack of MW but casting one with less then the 5 stack would provide the protection while you were casting.

Short answer: no
Long answer: There is no cap as in: ''adding more mastery rating beyond this point will not increase you mastery.'' But there is breakpoints in your target's HP level where mastery is meh. All the info's in the resto thread.

You can get much further with a kind word and a gun than with a kind word alone.

What is the rough estimated value of the tier 11 elemental 2-set bonus?
|
Increases the critical strike chance of your Flame Shock spell by 10%.
|
Edit#1: Second question...
Does Unleash Flame impact a Lava Burst's mastery proc? If so, how? Is it a fraction of the 30% buff, is it the full 30% buff, etc.?
Edit#2:
Simple dummy test shows that Unleash Flame does not impact a Lava Burst's mastery proc at all.

The value of a 10% crit boost to Flame Shock in DPS is the current DPS of Flame shock multiplied by 0.1 (the amount of crit, presuming this won't push you over 100% crit) multiplied by your crit damage bonus.
If we took the T12 heroic parse from Simcraft and ignored the fact that he already has the bonus for example, his Flame Shock does 2084 DPS and his crit damage bonus for Flame Shock is 1.06 (he has his meta-gem dont' forget), so the rough value of getting another version of the 2-piece would be:
2084*0.1*1.06 = 221 DPS.
Alternatively you can work it out as a percentage of your DPS by replacing the DPS amount with the DPS proportion of Flame shock, for the Simcraft shaman his Flame shock is dealing 6.317% of his DPS, so:
6.317% * 0.1 * 1.06 = 0.670% boost.
You can use this same maths on a parse of your own to check how much of a bonus it will be for you. It will be less than for the simcraft profile, so the answer is, perhaps unsurprisingly: "not much", but as you'll be getting the pieces anyway then it's better than nothing.

2/2 Call of Flame vs. 3/3 Improved Shields
On single-target DPS, would 2/2 Call of Flame be useful enough vs. 2/3 or 3/3 Improved Shield? I figured that if we kept using Fire Nova in our rotation (as I do, anyway) we could re-apply Flame Shock by using Fire Nova instead, freeing up space for more Earth Shocks in our rotation.
I'll add that I'm not an expert on Enhancement Shamanism like most people here, so do forgive if I overlooked something vital (like Flame Shock eventually running out, which is, I guess, something to be expected).
Also, any idea when Searing Totem finally stops ninjapulling / nuking wrong targets / stops being bloody annoying?

As has been mentioned a few times before, Fire Nova doesn't hit the target it originates from, so using it in a single target rotation is just a waste of a global cooldown.
Improved Shields is hands down our worst talent when it comes to gaining dps. The only reason 2/3 is in the cookie cutter spec, is because it's the only place left that actually gives us any dps gain for the 2 extra talent points you have left over at some point while trying to reach the bottom of the tree.

I searched the Resto thread for an answer, but to no avail.
With the new changes to spirit etc, is Heartsong still favored over Power Torrent for resto shammies?
I also use askmrrobot.com as a source for BiS + Enchant information and it stated Power Torrent as the preferred enchant.
Any help appreciated

The Team Robot web utility recommends power torrent because intellect is more valuable than spirit for a resto shaman. In addition to the spell power, crit, and regen benefits, we get an increased mana pool from intellect on gear. However intellect procs don't give extra mana like static intellect on gear does. The crit and regen effects are small, so power torrent (and trinket intellect procs) effectively provide only spell power, which is less valuable than spirit for a shaman healer.
So the tool recommendation is wrong, but it's understandable. It doesn't have different stat weights for intellect and intellect procs. The difference doesn't matter for a dps player, and druids and priests can time innervate and hymn with an intellect proc.

I've been going through world of logs today trolling other Shamans DPS and happened to notice someone that pulled 32k DPS who had only slightly better gear then me. By slightly better I mean 600ish AP and 2.0 Mastery. In the same fight I pulled 22k DPS so a 10k difference is huge!
I'm trying to figure out what I can be doing better in terms of DPS and I've just noted the changed (or new if that's what you'd like to call it) rotation. Can someone confirm for me what the best opener is on a fight like Shannox (or any boss in general). What I usually do is as follows:
1) Pop Spirit Wolves, run to the boss with the Sprint ability while they are already on him attacking.
2) Drop Searing Totem
3) SS
4) LL
5) usually by now I have MW5 so I use a LB
6) UE + FS
7) SS again or LL
8) ES
Then I pretty much start again. I tend to prioritise my LL over SS, especially when I see 5 stacks of searing flames on my target (but I think I might have to prioritse SS now by the looks of it).
Sometimes FS falls off, or sometimes I refresh it with about 3-4 seconds left on the DoT. Is this a bad thing?
And lastley, I noticed in the rotation the MW3/4 - Does this mean we just hard cast LB now when we have everything on CD and we are just waiting for the 2-3 seconds for a next ability to come off CD?
Thanks in advance for the help. I know it's a slightly confusing rotation and I'm sure a lot of other Shaman out there might also be getting confused. Overall I'm happy with my DPS but after looking at logs today I've noticed I could be doing A LOT more and would love to try and improve my DPS!

I would have to see both logs before i could make an assessment of why he is doing more dps than you, things off the top of my head are the following:
1. Pre-potting
2. RNG (gotta love it)
3. SS should be above LL in all instances
4. Searing Flames/Searing Totem uptimes
5. Flame Shock uptime
5. Gear
6. Boss Mechanics (I dont know which fight you are comparing)
7. Raid providing him with Tricks, Dark Intent, ect. to help him Rank on the fight.
if you can answer some of these questions then we could conclude what the problems are. (linking WoL reports for both would be optimal)

Ashunera what's your thought on using [Eye of Purification] in the most suitable way?
I did some calculations and neither AEP nor Glyphs or Priority changes will improve my DPS compared to the regular BiS settings. I was using T11 2p + T12 2p to run my calculations because Shoulder and Head non Heroic won't be a DPS upgrade. I also believe Blizzard will nerv Eye of Purification eventually soon.
So is there anything to improve our DPS using Eye of Purification compared to our regular settings? Everyone's thoughts are as always greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I've been looking all the forums for a pvp enhancement build + spell priority and have been failing. If it is up somewhere can someone please direct me to it? If not, then does anyone know what the best build is? I am guessing we drop searing totems, and grab toughness, but I'm wondering about frozen power, seasoned winds and earthen power. Are they worth getting? If frozen power is, which weapon gets the frostbrand, replacing wf on mh, or flametongue on oh? both seem like big drops, since you either lose the sp buff for the spells you're buffing, or losing the giant burst of wf.
I've been using the same priority of SS, LL, lb (or surge if dying), shock as I do in pve, wondering if it changes at all for pvp?
thanks
P.S. I'm still leveling with heirloom gear, and have been using The Blessed Hammer of Grace MH, Venerable Mass of McGowan OH. the speed difference is only .1, and the 168sp versus the 14 agi seems like a huge difference. is this a good choice, or should I be using a second McGowan or something else?

I play in a 10-man group that has lately found itself lacking a mage, and thus without the 6/10% spell power buff in any form other than my Flametongue Totem. Is there an approximate rule of thumb for when it's a raid DPS increase to drop a Fire Elemental and lose that buff? Essentially, how many caster DPS does it take for the +6% spell power buff to provide more single target raid DPS than a Fire Elemental?

Remember that in addition to strict caster DPS, enhancement shamans and paladins benefit from spell power, along with all of your healers. How much DPS does your Fire Elemental do across the entire fight? I imagine as Resto that number is small, as you are unlikely be glyphing it and do not have any hit rating to back it up. You'll cast it once, get 2 minutes out of it, and deprive everyone that isn't a rogue, warrior, or death knight of effectiveness in some form or fashion.
