For me that mp5 rating is way too high. With 2 pc t6 bonus and a spreist its hard to dump mana fast enough with chain heals unless I use hasted CH5. I'd imagine shaman still learning t6 content would value mp5 higher than I do though. I value +heal and haste over all other stats. Also my guild also tends to do crazy "Everyone stand in the AoE for higher dps. Shaman chain heal to keep them up." strats when HPS is my highest priority.
I'll play with the mp5 some more. At the moment using the Tier 6 values above, [Lightfathom Scepter] ranks higher than [Vengeful Gladiator's Salvation]. If we drop the weight given to mp5 to 2.5, then the PVP mace ranks higher. You gain 21 +healing, +7 stamina and +3 Intellect at the cost of 11 mp5. Would that be a worthwhile sacrifice, in your opinion? I would consider myself a Tier 5 shaman so I don't have the first-hand experience that you do.

That's because you get the SP and I get the hunters.....
But yes, even without a SP and the fact that I'm only 3/5 T6, I still think the MP5 is too high. I think 2.0-2.25 is a closer number to reality.
That's because you get the SP and I get the hunters.....
Ouch...that expains our differences in views.
I also think my most important stats are healing and haste. With a spriest, I can freely spam rank 5's with around 160 unbuffed MP5, and I do just fine without a spriest spamming rank 4's. I, unfortunately, also deal with warriors who thinks cleaves are rage-batteries.
For me in t6 content and gear I am currently running about 2300 +healing and 130 mp5 unbuffed (no water shield no totem) and 120+ haste rating on trash on bosses I switch some haste for better stats (stam / regen) as needed. For pure regen trinkets I use alchemist stone and eye of gruul or fathom brooch if needed. So those are another ~70 mp5 equivlant for a loss of about 150 healing. I think its good to be able to switch up gear a little as needed. Regen isn't always better and pure +heal isn't always better. Adapt to the strat and swap gear as needed.
Well they changed our regen enough that typical t4 and t5 would be different than I was at back then.
Here was my +healing for those levels though.
For t4 content ~1300-1500 +healing.
For t5 content ~1500-1900 +helaing.

Is 1500-1900 bonus heals (unbuffed) right for a T5-class resto shaman? I am at 2071 right now with a single piece of T4 and no T5 or T6 at all.
What is it at T6? I've seen numbers like 2400 bonus heals at T6 with the bonuses. How can T5 be only up to 1900 if T6 is 2400?
(Not "challenging" this... just trying to understand)

I would say you are ready for t5 content for sure with your gear, you have managed to find a good size of +healing from pure red gemming and badge/pvp/crafted gear. You have 129 mp5 in the armory right now which is fine for t5 as long as you have pots if the situation calls for it. 7.7k stam is also I think around average for a shaman doing t5 while your total mp at 8.8k is low, too low for my taste. I like to have over 10k without ancestral knowledge to give mana tide that umpfh.
I had around 1900 healing when I started with t6 content but alot more mp5, int and stam then you currently have. If you could get your unbuffed stam up a bit along with your int then you will be fine for going straight into t6 also.
Also I think you misunderstood the numbers a bit, the average t6 raiding resto shaman will probably have 2100-2200 healing, and one who just started will probably be just under 2k. Those who managed to get 2400 are the ones who farmed bt/hyjal for a while already and pretty much have the best possible piece on every slot.
Max'ed out T6 numbers vary from 2300-2500 depending on how you enchant/gem your things.
T5 tends to be under 2000. The reason is that a lot of the stat allocated for T5 goes into +crit rather than +heal/mp5. Furthermore, most guilds who can farm Kael/Vashj usually don't. The T6 content offers much better gear and that's also part of the reason. I'm sure a full T5-geared character with the Vashj mace will be around 2000 healing.
Finally, your point about your 2000 healing with 0-T5 loot kinda shows how strong PVP and Badge loots are. The badge loot are among the best non-T6 items in the game (In fact I use the boots), and the S2/S3 mace has more healing than the Vashj one. It's definitely a valid upgrade unless you need the MP5.
Best boots in the game [Treads of the Life Path] if you use Tier 6 stat weights and you can get them from heroic badges. [Two-toed Sandals] from ZA are also very nice with a little more mp5.
Hi, I've read a lot about resto shamans and leraner a lot with this post. I'm still trying to balance my gear. We are actually 40% in t5, downed void, solarian, hydross and lurker. Now heading for al'ar and morogrim. I'm full t4 and have t5 shoulders. I have the s3 chest and almost every piece of gear I can get from kara-mag-gruul (except for prince's cloak and maggy's shield). I have like four trinkets and I don't know when to use them (gruul's eye, martyr's whatever, pendant of the violet eye and opera's ribbon). I've been changing my gems to get more mp5 and I've lost a bit of healing, intelect and sta. With my current gear I'm at:
And that's unbuffed. I use mana oils and mana regen flasks in t5 and with the water shield I get a high amount of mp5. I also got spellsurge on my Light's Justice (my mages love me almost as much as they love our shadow priest). Am I losing a lot of stats just to get that mp5?
In my guild there are like 4-6 shamans rotating, 3-4 palas, 1 druid an 2 priests. I'm usually not the one healing the tank but assisting the MH and keeping the raid up (what's usual for a resto shaman).
Hello fellow shamans.
I wanted to ask you for help/advice.
Sometimes while healing intensively, when I’m in most need of Water Shield I forget to rebuff it. I use totemtimers and this addon has a reminder, but it doesn’t help. I switched from SCT to Mik’s scrolling combat text for the same reason, but it didn’t help too. Does anyone know any addon with distinctive visual effect and sound, which can help me.
Regards

..actually, im not entirely clear on the sudden demotion of haste either. if you have a spell that gets hasted to a cast time of less than 1.5sec, the spell completes and fires off in.. less than the 1.5sec of the gcd. its just that you cant initiate another spell until the 1.5sec gcd has completed. or am i missing something?
if the issue is landing a heal as soon as humanly possible to avoid your tank getting turned into street-pizza, then whats the problem here? yes, the SECOND spell you cast after that hail-mary and when youre able to cast it, thats a different story. still gotta wait on the gcd, but this was ever the case.
but.. in what situation would haste not be good? my 70 is a dps so ive never seen the flipside of this til recently, but even with my midlevel shaman ive already had a couple 'oops' moments where a heal was a split second late and a dollar short. i precast whenever possible and cancel a heal or even downrank a heal as i see fit.. but once in a while you need to bring the 'Jesus-cast' and yet youre about 0.2sec too late.
in other news, if theres something better than grid, im all ears. im concerned about certain incoming heals from particular spells not being shown, so alternatives are warranted. i always look around on files.wowace.com first, im a geek about material being up to date.
I'd like to thank you guys for the earlier breakdown of expected stats for the different Tiers of content. My shaman (only 2 weeks at 70) is sitting at 1300 +heal and 142 MP5 (no totem, no water shield), and that certainly let me know how much more work I need to put in to the gearing for my guild's current progression.

There are several links to addons that do this a page or two back. Shamanfriend is one of them, and it comes with other neat shaman things.

I second the shaman friend recommendation. It also lets you know when earth shield runs out on the target which is quite nice since its something that may take me awhile to notice. It also has other neat things for notify group/raid for purge, interrupt, mana tide and lust.
Thank you for advice.
Shamanfriend is probably one of that rare shaman addons I haven’t bothered to try out yet.
Going to install it as soon as possible. The most promissing thing about it is “sound for elemental shields” in description.
PS Also wanted to thank Shamanaut and Daidalos for replies and wws in this thread concerning spell haste theorycrafting.

Any ideas or criticism are welcome
First, you have a lot of +Intellect. You have +12 Int on your bracers and used +8 int and +4 int/2mp5 on your legs. You have 11k mana unbuffed. That’s a huge amount – far more than needed.
Suggestions:
1) Regem your legs with straight +heal gems
2) Put +30 healing or +6 mp5 on your bracers
3) Always use Essence of the Martry. It’s the best trinket you have right now.
4) Ditch the healing ring from Kara – [Violet Signet of the Grand Restorer]. Trade it in for the Enhancement or Elemental version. I see shaman make this mistake all the time. That ring is of little value to shaman because of the spirit. You can buy a better ring from Thrallmar/Honor Hold – [Ancestral Band] or [Ring of Convalescence]. Or better yet buy a PVP ring or the [Band of Halos] with heroic badges.
And considering how much you love Intellect and a big mana pool, I’m a bit shocked that you are not specced 0-5-56. I don’t recommend that spec but it would seem a good fit for you. I would drop the 5 points in Totemic Focus and put them into Ancestral Knowledge.
If you get less than 12 FPS you're getting a clear and direct hit to your reaction time by the simple fact you get slower pictures on the screen than your brain can process. I'm not sure exactly how much FPS you need to effectively eliminate the slower reaction time effect of low FPS, but it's definitely somwhere >12. Having 5 frames/sec means you lose up to 0.2s when it comes to seeing the info on time. Again this isn't completely scientific and can probably be better explained but it's enough to show you how low FPS definitely make you "the slow poke".
I think you have probably hit upon my problem. I tried spam casting last night in BT and did see a noticeable improvement (at least on the healing meter compared with my twin shaman Khairis). It looks like if you have getting less than 10-12 FPS, spam casting is your best method (as much as a I hate pounding the mouse/keyboard). If you have better FPS, you can probably afford to either just cast the next heal shortly before the first finishes or use a mod such as Quartz. I think I'll add this to the main post somewhere.
I have been meaning to take a look at my mods and try to streamline. However, we're raiding 6 nights a week now in an attempt to down Illidan before the Sunwell so there's been no time to play around with my UI. Eliminating Recount seems to help but I absolutely love that mod (especially the Grim Reaper function when someone says they have no idea how the tank died and it shows the tank went 6 seconds without heals).
Are there any other mods that have a big impact on game performance? XPerl perhaps? If Grid is significantly more lightweight, it would be yet another argument in favor of switching.
Posts earlier in this thread show that using the 3 piece T2 set outweighs the loss currently, given specific circumstances.
Yes, I read the numbers based on current stats available. I'm wondering what the turning point would be where wearing T2 over future stats would be too great.
What you lose (varies depending on current gear and which pieces of T2 you equip):
• Healing -200 to -350
• Crit -1% to -2%
• Intellect -15 to -35
• Stamina -25 to -80
• Mp5 -20 to -50
So the real effect of 3TS is around 14.3% more healing. In this example, you would need 2479 +heal to get the same effective heal without the 3T2 bonus so it’s worth about 729 +heal .
What numbers before the +% healing would = 0. When three pieces of gear = +729? Given current stats and projected level 80 stats, it'd have to be +243 healing per piece. This seems like an unreasonable amount of healing for a single piece of level 80 gear, just speculating. Based on that reasoning, would it be safe to say the T2 in it's current form could possibly be worthwhile at level 80?

Can you explain what the modified code does? Does this make the sound play 10 times instead of once? I'll also repost a modification that can be made to SCT.
I'd like to share this little line of code that is inserted into 'interface\addons\sct\sct_event_config.lua'
Inside the file there is a line local sct_Event_Config = { Next to that is a custom events list. I replaced 'lightning shield' event since it's usefulness is none to me. The file itself contains pretty clear explanations and examples for custom events so feel free to modify. It gives you warning when Water Shield fades. test.wav is your own to pick.

Yes, T2 could still possibly be worthwhile at Level 80. It scales well with +healing. I would also expect T6 to scale well into the next expansion. However, a lot may change. Just look at what happened to our class going from 60 to 70 with water shield and mana spring and shadow priests.
We did BWL one Saturday afternoone when we were bored with about 15 people. It probably took a total of 3-4 hours if you include all the blood eleves we had to get attuned and people trying to find out where they put their Ony cloaks and the fact that you couldn't summon using the meeting stone. It was quite fun -- and profitable. The bosses dropped a decent amount of gold.
I was curious why you are using [Royal Shadowsong Amethyst] over [Lustrous Empyrean Sapphire] in blue sockets and the intial statement regarding using Ruby's and Spinels whenever possible? I'm not sure if this is the same for all resto shammys in BT/Hyjal, but I typically run 40% - 50% overhealing. This may be due to us having 3 - 4 resto shammys in each raid, but those numbers are pretty consistent.
When I'm grouped with a Spriest, the +Healing is much better since mana is never a problem. But quite often I'm with Melee or Tanks, so my mana regen becomes the ceiling on healing intensive fights (e.g. Gurtogg).
I'll lookup some of our full BT clears (trash isn't the best example), but I would be very interested in seeing how a significant +healing set does vs. +regen set (regarding enchants + gems).
Can you explain what the modified code does? Does this make the sound play 10 times instead of once? I'll also repost a modification that can be made to SCT.
Yes, but it will play almost simultaneously so it is very loud over the background noise of raiding.
mp5 is wasted in a group with a spriest, +heal is never wasted. When you struggle with regen issues, downrank. This is pretty much the mantra for a resto shaman, IMO.
Baby, you can hold my balls.

Given a sufficiently high ilvl that the +healing on T2, the base healing from Chain Heal, and all non-scaling buffs/etc are trivial enough to ignore, all healing is coming from +healing on gear. Boots + Bracers + Belt is 18% of your item budget. As a result, you'll lose 18% of your +healing from gear (given perfectly distributed +healing accross your items slots -- not actually true, but good enough for this), and hence CH will be 18% smaller on the first target.
Total Healing with normal gear: 100% + 50% + 25% = 175%
Total Healing with 3pc T2: 82% + 53.3% + 34.645% = 169.945%
At infinite +healing, 2pc T2 (barely) falls behind normal gear, indicating that it scales slightly worse than new items, and there is a break even point. This point is easiest to find by looking at the final size of the heals.
Let the average size of CH's initial heal at the break-even point in +healing gear be x. Let the average size of CH's initial heal with 3pc T2 be y.
x + x/2 + x/4 = y + y/2*1.3 + (y/2*1.3)/2*1.3
1.75x = y + .65y + .4225y
1.75x = 2.0725y
y = .844x
When wearing 3pc T2 results in the initial hit of CH to be 15.6% smaller, the total healing across all three bounces is the same. Using the level 70 version of CH, we can calculate at what +healing this becomes true (assuming again the loss of 18% of +healing from 3pc T2 -- less true because enchants, gems and pots do not scale, but would still be relevant at these gear levels). As far as I know, all multipliers apply after +healing, and so can be ignored.
CH base is 884 healing. The +healing coef is 2.5/3.5. The break-even point is where reducing the amount of +healing by 18% results in a 15.6% smaller initial hit, i.e.:
At level 70, 3pc T2 stops increasing the total amount healed by CH at +8050 healing. Level 80 will make this number higher due to the larger base size of CH. However, you will probably want to stop wearing it long before that, as items do have stats other than +healing, and by the time you're even thinking about 8050 healing, you'd be looking at losing potentially hundreds of points of int and stam and a large chunk of regen by wearing T2.
