I don't know do you mean the message EnhSimGui gives or the one EnhSim gives. Anyway, if it is EnhSimGui, check the message. There are two types. One tells that the stat goes over the cap and the other one tells that the stat is over the cap. First one is told if stat + ep range is over the cap.
Both actually.
The GUI says: "MH and OH expertise are over the cap. EP expertise will be skipped"
EnhSim.exe says: "Mh expertise goes past cap by 7.22765 expertise (28.495 expertise rating)." (and the same message for OH).
These messages occur with the EP range values listed in my previous post, and with Expertise rating for both MH and OH set to "102". As I said before, I have to lower my expertise rating to 80 or so before that message goes away

Right, I thought so.
I have 10.78% spell hit in my paper doll, +1% for being spaceberry, so that gives me 11.78%. I have the 3% spell hit debuff checked under buffs, so thats 14.78% total hit (I have warp burger selected for food and saw no other settings that might affect spell hit). So i should need another 2.22% to reach the spell cap, yet any spell hit value entered that is over 12% causes the GUI to display this message in the Info textarea: "EP hit goes past cap with spells".

Ok, I tested with 102 expertises and it didn't give that error message, wierd.
I tested the spell hit with 12%, buff 3% and EP range hit rating 20 and it didn't give the error.
I have no idea what's going on. I noticed another bug in the gui regarding spell hit calculation. Anyway, what about the program, if you just ignore the messages? You should know that the error message values are calculated with the EP range value added to the stat. You could send me the config, which should show those errors, so I can take a look at it.
Forgive me if I missed it, but is there an option to declare your weapons as being Dragonstrike's? I know I could figure out an equivalent passive haste %, but I was wondering if there was a cleaner option.

I just tested this on the ptr and achieved an uptime of ~70% for the dragonstrike haste effect with double dragonstrike, WF/WF, hitting with SS and Lavalash. Interestingly the haste effect grants melee+spellhaste.
BestDpsBuild.txt config is very haste capped right now. Only 5% haste from gear and raid buffs but weapons speed is just over 1.5s. Ep calculation give haste value -0.88ep with these settings. All you can do is get slower weapon or get rid of all haste or get lot more haste.
Hence the entire problem of why people are asking how to compile this on OS X. If I had an Intel mac I would simply bootcamp into Windows and run the sim there for convenience. The compile instructions as provided by tukez don't seem to work. (Grab libs, build them, run g++ on the sim)
Bootcamp is convenient?? Maybe compared to owning another PC, but I find it incredibly inconvenient to have to reboot - I usually leave at least a dozen apps up. Also Krim (the guy I was responding to) mentioed he tried Darwine, so I knew that was an option for him.
Anyway, Krim, I can't help you any more right now but in a few days I'll have a little more time, and I'll wipe out Wine and the sim and install them from scratch taking notes.
Thanks for the advice! I didn't know about the hidden .wine directory (it's in my home folder, by the way, not at the root of my HD). I am on an intel mac (I've been hoping to avoid installing windows to do this). I am, however, still getting stuck. When I use WineHelper to open the Sim, I select the Enhsim.exe file and it doesn't open. I tried pasting the text from config.txt in, that didn't work. I'm seemingly either not doing the right steps to select the arguments, or something else is going wrong.
Edit: I'm taking a closer look at the config.txt file now. I was using the default, but perhaps the 0/2600 kinds of values that are input for armor_debuff_major and the like are the problem? Also I see a few talent values that seem to be impossible (not having any talents in tier 1 of enhancement). I'll try changing those things and see if it makes the difference.
Edit 2: Tried the same things with the BestDpsBuild.txt file instead, since it seems to be filled in. Same problems.
The default config.txt produces valid output.
I just DLed 1.3.2. I decompressed it into the "drive_c" folder inside the ".wine" folder. (And yes, I meant .wine goes in your home, not the root, sorry.)
Then I ran the wine helper app. Selected "Open", and in that dialog chose enhsim.exe. Before starting it I also checked the checkbox for arguments in the area underneath the file browser, and put as an argument "c:\enhSim1.3.2\config.txt" (without the quotes, and notice that those ar BACKslashes, since this is windows).
Hi, I'm really hoping someone has some suggestions on what I can do to resolve an issue I'm having running EnhSim.
I unpack the .rar onto my computer without any hitches, and can pull up the GUI fine, and lad config.txt ok.
But then as soon as I try to simulate, calc ep vals, or generate combatlog output, the damn thing crashes, and gives a nice microsoft send or don't send report box.
enhsim.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
I've made sure to update my Win XP, installed and re-installed MS Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Setup, re-downloaded and unpacked the sim, and even prayed a little bit.
The alternative is "it doesn't run at all" so yes its more convenient. Something is better than nothing. The wine stuff only works on an intel mac anyways right? Still need to figure out why this won't compile on a non intel mac since there's really no reason it won't. Otherwise someone is going to need to run the sim a whole lot for me when I need to start rewriting the wiki article.

Give that a shot, it worked for me...
I tried this both exactly as you typed it and also as "c:\EnhSim1.3.2 Folder\config.txt" since the directory in which config.txt resides is called "EnhSim1.3.2 Folder". No luck either way. It seems I am so close; it's frustrating as all hell.
Edit: I got it! I had to rename the folder to something simpler to eliminate what I thought might be potential syntax errors with the space. I renamed the folder "EnhSim" and then used the argument c:\EnhSim\config.txt
I cannot thank you all enough for the help. I'll write up exact steps soon to get any Intel Mac to run the sim so it can be included when Malan updates the wiki for 3.x and beyond.

See if you can figure out how to compile it on a non intel mac too.
Another issue I'm running into: If I use config.txt (unedited from when I downloaded it), it works fine (though with a few errors reported). If I use BestDpsBuild.txt (also unedited), the sim shows me results that are very odd:

MH Storsmtrike:

No, the alternative is running in Wine (if you can live without the GUI), which I think is way better. To each his own. And there's always parallels or VMware.
Actually, there's also Sun's xVM, which is free. I haven't tried it yet but if you own windows try getting xVM and installing windows in that. It won't work for games but for the sim, even the gui, it would be fine.
But yeah, being able to compile it natively would be cool. I barely have time to read this forum though, so I haven't had a chance to try that since the earliest release.

You're welcome. Sorry I forgot to explain about the space...
If you want to make things interesting, see if you can figure out how to get the gui working. It's missing a component that may be proprietary (part of windows) but I don't know. I didn't have time to look at it.
Wine on OS X is not officially maintained by the Wine project. As such, it may be out of sync with the latest version shipped by Wine. If this is the case, it is better to "build Wine from scratch". This requires to install XCode from Apple, the development package for MacOS X shipped (but not pre-installed) with your Mac.
Please note that all builds discussed here are for Mac's with Intel CPU's, not PowerPC CPU's
Mine is working fine, but ive found one issue. Its not registering unleashed rage, my meta, or my t6 set bonuses as having ANY uptime(o.oo%). Any Advice on what i might be doing wrong? my config is Below.

I tested this and I get something to UR uptime. Your set bonus or metagem don't give any uptime because they don't proc any buff.
Anyway, there are couple of problems in the config:
-You don't have anything in the ep_dps value.
-You have 2 windfury glyphs. You can't have same kind of glyph multiple times.
-You have mw_lb in the rotation. You need to put the minimum charges to use MW next to the "mw". Like this: mw5_lb.
-You have both, high end elemental and enhancement talens, which isn't possible.
thanks for the tips, but the T6 4 peice gives a buff called stormpower which offers the 70 AP increase(even when the stormstrike doesnt like e.g parry/dodge etc) so that should offer uptime correct?(albeit 100% but still)
EDIT: Oh and duh about the meta...thanks. its been a long day.
"Does not compile" isn't very helpful. Give us some compiler error messages so we can try to help.
I haven't toyed with OS X since the first releases, but surely you can get a native gcc for your architecture? OS it usually the big snag, not the arch.
I have narrowed down the source of an issue. After having tried, by trial and error, many small changes to config.txt, it seems the issue is with setting rotation priority.
rotation_priority_count 3
rotation_priority1 ES
rotation_priority2 SS
rotation_priority3 LL
The above settings give an expected result. As soon as they are changed to the below settings, I get searing totem DPS only.
rotation_priority_count 4
rotation_priority1 MW5_LB
rotation_priority2 ES
rotation_priority3 SS
rotation_priority4 LL
I have also tried altering a number of the following settings, thinking maybe this was what was fouling the results.
Hi. Im trying out the sim to get EP values for lvl 70 raiding in 3.0. However, Im not sure how to change the config.txt in order for it to use lvl 70 spells instead of lvl 80.Could anyone explain how do this?
Thanks.
open the enhsimgui and input your characters completely unbuffed stats into the lines. Hit simulate and it should open a window.

also, what number should i input for the ep_dps value? my current weapon dps? simulated dps?

That said, I'm sympathetic, and if I get some time next week I'll take a shot at compiling it. I vaguely recall Tukez saying that he'd built it with some threading library, but that you could arrange not to use the threading (an ifdef?). Did you try that?
In any case posting the errors may elicit some help even from people who don't have a Mac.

This should compile on pretty much any popular OS. I compiled it on 64 bit RHEL 5.2 myself. If you are unable to compile ZThread, chances are you're not able to compile EnhSim either. Quick Google search gave me references to ADC Member Site where you can register for free development tools. I'm sure there is a tech savvy, OS X running geek in this thread that can share insight on getting gcc up and running, even for non-Intel users.
