Ok, and the length of a "fight" is defined at the beginning of the config file right? So the sim might run for 1000 hours, but it's doing it in X minute "fight" intervals?

Kind of. Not everything is resetted at every fight. Trinkets, Bloodlust, misc Item, potion and Searing Totem come to mind, which are resetted. I'll probably implement full reset some time, but it's not too high on priority.

I have seen others asking this, and I am sorry but I still am missing something. I have been searching through this thread as well as the wotlk discussion thread and I am at my wits end.
Why is hit rat ep value showing so high for me? I'm running the sim with 10.65% hit (168 rating) I thought the hit cap was 166
i have the ep range for hit set to 20 and ran for 50000hrs
my hit rat ep value comes out at 2.86 so when I enter values into lootrank or pawn, the gear with hit rating is coming up on the top of all the charts.
My question is, do I want to continue to increase my +hit past 166, and if so, how high do I want to go?

Probably because the sim doesn't recognize you being a Squidface. Might need an option if it lacks that. I'm not 100% sure on this however. Manually adding 1% extra hit should fix it though.

Its because in your config you have the spell hit raid buff at 0/3.0, leaving you 3% spell hit behind the cap still. You need to add this if you wish to be spell hit capped and see a much more reasonable value for haste then the high one you currently have.

BTW, I still haven't had time to do this, so I'm glad your friend was able to, but he went about this differently than I would have. Ask your friend if he's willing to add a makefile. It should be trivially easy and that way people don't have to open up projectbuilder (or whatever it's called these days).

I agree completely about the naming - it'll just get way too confusing. I'll rename the files etc and update tonight.
I'll ask about the makefile.
Regarding someone else's question about threading - I believe threading is disabled to avoid the use of ZTHREADS or whatever it is. I'll ask to see if we can put it back in. I've found the Mac binary to be a bit slow, but then I've never run the Windows version so have nothing to compare it to.
I was just pleased I could run it at all

9% is the hit cap for specials.
17% is the hit cap for spells.
28% is the hit cap for normal attacks.
You are under the hit cap for spells, so you get high EP value.

I'm progressing with the exporting of paperdoll stats in ShockAndAwe for direct cut n' paste into EnhSim config files. A few questions...
1) Is the order of entries in the config file important?
1a) If it is important would it be at all possible to have the default values have all of the data that comes from in game in one place. At present the Shaman (stats) stuff is in one place and the Talents stuff is later on in the file with Rotations/Misc & Boss in between. Producing a single cut n paste means its easier for users to replace data in the file, if its all consecutive.
2) I note there is no config option for Feral Spirits talent? I'm guessing this is because we haven't got reliable data for them yet?
3) If I export the name of a glyph that the sim doesn't cater for is this a show stopper or does it treat bad names as a dash (ie: not present)? I'm thinking of new glyphs in game which of course an export sees whether it should treat anything not in the sim as a dash and output that or whether it should output the name and let the sim ignore it. I note various checks in the sim to say "not found" however I couldn't make out if the sim just ignores with a warning or its a show stopper?
4) Same question as 3 for trinkets
5) Does anyone know a Blizzard API call to get weapon dps? Or will I have to parse the tooltips?
6) Same question as 5 for weapon permanent enchants eg: mongoose. I suppose question 3 holds true here too.
Proposal for solution to question 3 type (if it isn't already the case) :

Please use the EnhSim by Ziff & others to simulate what gear, priorities etc are the best dps. You can use ShockAndAwe to export your paperdoll stats to EnhSim.

So if I understand what has been said so far, if I manually add the 1% draenei heroic presence, as well as add the 3points in the sim's 'spell hit raid buff' I should be good to go?
Just for confirmation, it says to add the 3 points if you are receiving imp FF, and misery. Our raid does not currently include a boomkin. I guess I can not add those 3 points? Or are there other sources I am not thinking of?

Misery is from shadow priests, so if you're running with one of them, you're 100% sure to have that debuff up. Also, notice that you do not need to gem up to 14% to be hitcapped (13% in the case of you, since you're draenei); Spicy hot talbuk gives 20 hit rating, which allows you to gem stats that are more useful out of raid (such as AP or any stat that comes out with an EP above 2).

It's a nice little pocketguide by Toots Hepcat, if you're good at enhancement shaman "stuff", it will not be news but a nice recap, if you're a bit unsure of some of the basics, it's a godsend.

May I suggest that the sim be modified to take data on STDIN if it's there?
Alternatively (or additionally) it would be cool if it could take multiple file arguments. Then you could to things like:
cat myconfig.txt shockandawe.out | enhsim
enhsim myconfig.txt shockandawe.out
What happens if the same config info is repeated twice? Do the second statements override the first ones reliably?

I'm having a little trouble understanding the config file for the sim (I'm just not a numbers girl at heart), but I'm trying to figure it out myself without whining for a walkthrough. One thing I would like to ask though is do I still need to manually add in my 6% hit from Dual Wield Spec and 1% hit from draenei racial, or do those get sorted out on their own in the sim? I know with Yo's sim, we had to add the talented hit bonuses... Also, does the 6% hit from talents count towards spell hit as well now that hit is consolidated? I know the 1% racial counts, but I'm fuzzy on whether the talent does.

Many thanks. All I need is to have everything that's "in game" stuff in one place. As far as I can currently make out that's - Shaman section up as far as glyphs and the Talents section. Everything else is either Sim config data, raid config data, or user preferences.
Ideally have all the stuff at the end of the default config file so that a cut n paste is delete everything from here to the end, and replace with data from game. Indeed that could be a comment in the default file. Assuming that I have fixed the cut n paste issue I've dry coded at work, I should have a working version up tonight for people to test.

Now that the sim is C++ based (I'm lazy) I may poke at it a bit.
If threading/multi-platform is an issue, I have had very good results with Intel's Threading Building Blocks: TBB Home
This is an open source (GPL runtime license...IE do whatever you want with it) library for threads, threaded memory allocation, lockless data structures, and atomic operations. It's currently in use Win/Mac/Linux in one of our game projects.
The current method for building effects in EnhSim is limiting since it requires C++ changes/recompile. I think we could get better results using an aggregation model, driven by XML data, for effects. I'll poke at it, at some point.

Alright I have no clue, I think I broke the sim but I'm really and truely clueless again. I picked up the brute neck tonight, input my new stats into the sim and pressed run. And thats where things went truely crazy. The sim spat back 4.xx EP rating for melee %hit. I ran the sim again to make sure something wasn't bugged out, reset all my stats in the sim, ran it again and I ended up with similar numbers. I then procededd to crank my hit rating up to 19.4 which the sim regards as max hit% for melee in raid settings and I still came back with a 3.xx number.
What is going on here? Replacing my supremus neck with the brute neck simmed for 150 dps difference which is some serious numbers. Sunday I pulled off 2953 dps on brute with UR, tonight due to an incorrect macro and the resulting swapping half way through the fight, completely destoryed my rotation but I still broke 3k dps (no UR this time).
With my old neck on (11.6% haste and 10.13 melee hit) EP values came out at 2.10 / 2.11 for haste / hit. With the new neck (13.51% haste and 8.8% melee hit) EP comes out at 2.22 / 3.8 for haste hit.
Specials are capped at 9%.
Spells are capped at 16 or 17% (I was told the 1% innate miss rate was removed)
The sim reports that (at 10.75 + food 1.58 + hit debuffs 3%) EP hit goes past spell cap but that only adds to 15.3%
I should add that I run UR in the sim despite not having it in game, just makes things easier for me when simming and EPing. I also add 1% melee crit for having the SOE gylph and 1% hit to melee and spells from the hit aura.

Do you have the GUI linked to the level 80 sim instead of the level 70? (just throwing it out there)
I'm confused about the Brut showing as 150dps over the Supremus neck. I actually show the brut neck as only being 3 AeP value better then the supremus one which is nowhere near 150dps (I want a Brut neck but that has more to do with all that free stamina then with the dps increase). Maybe I am mixing up the necks or something.
Edit. nm, your values for hit are that high because you are no longer spell hit capped. The reason why the sim says your values for hit go over the cap is because when you add that additional hit you do go over the spell hit cap.(ep works by adding that much to your values and seeing how much your dps changes)
If you want to maximize use of that Brut neck you need to make up the lost hit from the supremus neck with gems until you are at least spell hit capped.

Actually that buff you should add manually since the Sim doesn't present an option to account for your being a blueberry.
Doesn't have any way to account for me being of the superior Orc race either (which wouldn't be a bad option to add since Blood Fury shouldn't be that hard to code since it is a simple buff on a 2 minute cooldown).

My DPS doesn't change when I increase spell hit (obviously since I'm spell hit capped at 13). The problem is when calculating EP values. Having 17% spell hit total should give the same EP values for "hit rating" as 18%+. The DPS doesn't go up by going over the spell hit cap so I don't see why it should change the EP value for "hit rating"

For future reference, use the code tags, not quote tags, when pasting sim stuff, it will add a scroll bar to the block so that it doesn't destroy the page formatting.
