It's not worth Macro'ing if you use a mod like Clique to assign all your heals to mouse buttons (you do have 17...). Then you skip the need to target anything and can just click on the grid panels with the appropriate button to fire your spells.

Keep a /focus on the tank and you are free to target boss or adds for shocking. Without the need to target for heals, the only thing slowing the process down is the global cooldown, and a macro won't get you around that.

Is it better to:

Use a stop casting macro with Lava Surge when it procs so that you can Lava burst ASAP

OR

Finish out the spell currently being casted, hope the spell queue doesn't have another spell in it, then cast lava burst?

As I always remember WF weapon proc have a 3sec hidden CD. So that means no WF during 3sec after the first WF proc.
Is that still true? Or I miss any changes in that way?

I just dig in the combat log of Leedsz-(FTH enh. shaman) and saw that:

That's amazing. I've been trying to figure out how to get that log browser working that we used when testing the cooldown in the old thread but haven't gotten too far.

From that log it looks like windfury is going to need additional testing. Also need to check on WF/WF while we are at it. Maybe they managed to pull the cooldown when it is only on one weapon? or maybe they simply shortened the cooldown?

EDIT - I'm checking some other logs from last nights raiding and I'm not getting anything like that for any of them. Not sure what is going on with that log now.

Just put a 1.8 weapon speed MH and hit a dummie for a while, I wasn't expecting to see timings like this or am I missing something? Is my simple test flawed?

I'm sorry if this question is answered already in a different place but I just could not find it, so here goes my question:
Shaman restoration:

Since patch 4.0.1 Chain healing is not as effective as before and I see that there are actually better gear out there than T10 itself, So I was wondering if we need to still aim to have full 4 pieces of T10 to have the set bonus applied to our healing in raids, heroics, etc. or should we only keep 2 pieces and find better gear with spirit, haste,, crit or more sockets available.

Greetings everyone,

I have a question about healing gear. I am currently using the Blood Boil Lancet as my staff. I have been contemplating a change to a shield or off hand item and a healing mace. Should I focus on spell power for the off hand or intellect and haste/crit? I am second spec elemental, however, I am gathering gear to go enhancement, I would like to focus my primary gear towards raid and group heals.

I guess I would like to see what the more experienced shamans prefer, staff or mace/shield? At what point should I stop focusing on crit and haste and move to spell power?

1h-weapon and shield are always better than a staff of equivalent ilvl (as long as you don't choose a tanking shield obviously). The preferred stats depend on your target raidsize and whether you heal the raid or tanks more. For 25man raid-healing, I'd recommend haste, haste and a bit of extra haste on the side. I'm currently at ~1350 and would still take more. Haven't done a lot of 10-man healing, but chain heal is not as efficient there, therefore haste might be less valuable.
Since patch 4.0.1 hit, you won't find spellpower on offhands or shields (except for very few items), so go for intellect.

In terms of stat allocation points, a staff is just as good as a shield and main hand weapon. The problems is, are you getting the stats you want from a staff?

The tier 9 staves from ToC had exactly the stats we were interested in at that time, and the new staff enchant meant that losing the shield enchant wasn't a loss anymore -- so for that time either choice was fine. Tier 10 staves all have either a lot of spirit or hit, or a proc that doesn't help a healer. In Cataclysm we'll care about spirit as mana regen will matter a lot more, but for now spirit isn't a compelling stat.

So the best healing gear right now is the traditional MH & shield combo we're used to. But with that said, the best gear available to you is the gear that drops for your group.

As to haste and crit, there's no reason to stop stacking them for less desirable stats. Haste is still our most valuable stat past the soft cap, and it's literally impossible to reach the crit cap as a resto shaman.

That is what I thought about ditching staves. It was hard to find one that was half way decent. I will start running pit of saran for the shield off the last boss. But back to the chain heal statement, I rarely ever use it in 5 and 10 man groups. It is slow and gives me 1/3 less healing. I rarely ever need multiple target heals.
The basics of how I run heals is ES and riptide on tank and use healing surge at 75% on tank. Everyone else at 50-60 will get one. Refresh ES and riptide as needed on the tank. I also will use riptide as a heal if I need instant heals for some reason. Riptide gives me enough time to get hs down most of the time. Maybe I should consider using Chain heals more?

Then again I have no 25 man exp other than my runs in tbc. None from wrath.

I did a similar test to see what the rate was if it was changed. Did 2 segments. 1.97/1.97 Weapon speed due to 20% Haste and WF Totem.

Boro your timings on your run seem similar to my second test.

Test #1 shows when the OH proc'd vs the MH as you can see the damage is lower like it should be. The Test 2 shows that without the WF glyph of 2% more of a chance to proc that there was only a few occurrences of it being almost exactly 3 seconds apart. While in the first test it is showing that even though both were up you can see there are a lot of back to back of MH or OH. Some alternating between MH or OH.

Could be just RNG playing it's hand between the two. I'm not sure. I might do some testing in a bit with the WF Glyph to see how much closer MH only would get, or if there is some clipping with MH+OH. The question would be, what glyph would be useful to give up for it? Right now it's Feral, SS, and LL as Prime Glyphs. If WF was a Major it'd be nice to have. But as a Prime I'm not sure.

Rouncer have you looked into this anymore?

Now that the blizzard updates the tooltips as your spell power scales, I have confused myself. Standing in town with just my totems down, my tooltips show this:

LB: 5057 dmg/1.42 sec cast = 3561 dps

CL: 4544 dmg/1.07 sec cast = 4247 dps

But I'm reading all over the place that CL should not be used for single target DPS. Elemental focus (+10% spell damage procs) should affect both these spells at the same rate. But, after trying this myself and other shamans trying a LB + CL rotation on a training dummy, it results in lower DPS than LB spam?

What mechanic am I missing that makes LB better than CL? I saw a post in my research saying that Elemental overload chance for CL is less, is this what I'm missing?

Use pre-patch Elemental Overload as an example:

OL on LB was 33%, but only 11% per target for CL, so if you use it during single target, you left with very little OL %.

Now post patch our OL scales with mastery, so it is safe to assume that your CL per target OL % would be whatever your OL is divide by 3 (and I also think it is safe to assume if by any chance you gylph for CL then it would be divide by 4?), hence make CL on single target cast a lot less desirable, especially now the OL extra hit do 75% of the original damage.

Pre-patch CL is mainly used for multi targets as well as used to tightening up your rotation between LvB, but now with Lava Surge there isn't really a need to tightening up the rotation anymore so CL is pretty much used for multi targets only for these reasons.

CL Overload still only has 33% of your Overload chance per hit, but that doesn't change with or without the glyph. Hitting 5 targets gives you 166% of you Overload chance (5*33%), but overload CLs only hit 3 targets each.
