HEP is normalized to spell power. That means that, by definition, 1 HEP is worth 1 point of spell power. When you produce a shaman_hep report, it provides you with a conversion rate from spell power to hps, if that's a metric that feels more intuitive to you.

I have a Resto Shaman I have been working on building up and I have been reading as much as I can, but there is something I have not been able to find out recently. Is there a good number for my MP5 to be at so I can clear around for more haste and crit?

The amount of mp5 you need is subjective to each fight. If you have mana at the end of a fight, you had too much mp5, if you ran out, you had too little. That being said, I run with about 200 mp5 unbuffed (without water shield or mana spring) and a Solace trinket (which is 128 mp5 consistently), and very rarely have mana issues as long as I have replenishment and remember to keep water shield up.

For starting out, somewhere between 200-300 mp5 should be more than enough unless fights are taking longer than they should.

I would like some advice about tank healing in 10 man. A few questions.

1) Firstly, should I keep with the T9 2 piece? I appreciate the extra healing power from riptide would help, but I very often consume it for chain healing on the melee, and I am concerned it may result in a lot of overhealing. I am only running with the 2 piece T10 and offpieces, and my stats are fairly strong that way.

2) Is it worth going for the T10 4 piece? Considering I have elemental to gear up also. Is it really beneficial in a 10 man environment as a tank healer?

3) We run with 3 druids and replenishment, so innervates are free to use, though I do get quite hung up about mana and don't like to 'hog' innervates (I usually get 1-2 per fight). I expect my lack of experience means I am spamming a little too much, but I am really unsure where to go with stats. As a tank healer, should you go with crit or mp5 on gear? haste/mp5, crit/mp5 or haste/crit? I don't feel my mana is much of a problem but it might be if i drop further mp5, by dropping the T10 gloves for the T10 helm instead, replacing the gloves with haste/crit gloves. I am pugging every week to try to get the Solace trinket, but no luck and I can't really rely on getting it. There are not really enough people in our guild to form our own group either.

It may just take a few weeks of getting used to it, I am fairly new to healing, but I'd like to get the basics right.

I apologize if I missed this somewhere, but I looked through the Elemental compendium and through other threads on this forum and didn't find an answer to my question.

My question is this: If I get a spell power proc from an item, is it worth interrupting my rotation and spending the mana in order to refresh FS with the increased spell damage(I have 4pc T9)?

Also, would I want to use Blood Fury and any other +spell damage buffs before dropping my Fire Elemental or is the effect so minor that it would be more beneficial to have 1 more GCD with the spell power buff on a different spell?

Cheers.

Enhancing Totems For Resto

I'm a resto shaman in a strict 10 man guild that is not currently raiding with either an Elemental Shaman or a DK. Is it worth moving 3 points from Healing Focus to Enhancing Totems?

The spell pushback in current content is fairly negligible. Being in a strict 10, on the other hand, makes the available buffs that much more important. Go with the switch.

Burst rotation on Valks in LK phase 2

Wondering what other Elemental Shaman are casting on the Valks in phase 2 of 25 man LK encounter, where mobility is really hurting me.

I'm assigned as a backup slow on one of the Valks, but other than that, I'm getting my FS dot up, a Chain Lightning for the cleave, and a Lava Burst, then just shooting bolts until CL is back off of cool down. I'm finding that I'm having to move around a little too much due to defiles, yet remain near the bottom in output on the Valk Shadowguards.

I'm obviously taking assumptions on your strat that cleaving is an option, but strategically placing your totems helps a lot. We usually start a couple steps North of the center of the room, so the Valks fly North, and I place my Totems 5-10 yards out of that. This lets me either have a Magma down that they snare through, or they fly over my Searing totem that is popping away at LK and I can Fire Nova them.

I do make liberal use of Chain Lightning, but I also move a lot once the Valks come up to put me in a better position. You'll frequently need to move due to a Defile cast during the Valk period anyhow, so you might as well move to near the edge and force the Valks to move towards you rather than chase them. That will let you take advantage of your being a "turret" and should up your damage a bit.

However, I'm not at the top of our damage either (Usually 4th-5th). Starfall used properly is going to be huge damage, as will anyone with great spammable cleave damage. I can't see a parse of yours, but make sure you aren't being too hard on yourself. If the Valks aren't dying, are they actually getting stunned/slowed? If you are actually doing your job with positioning and getting targeted quickly, the problem might not be you.

Enhance question.

If I read correctly our wolves benefit from buffs cast while they are spawned and won't benefit from buffs/cd's popped before they are spawned.

Therefore if I am an Orc Shaman, how would my BEST start dps look?

The World of Warcraft Armory - Nikn @ Gorefiend - Profile

1. Run up to boss
2. Totems down.
3. Wolves
4. Blood Fury
5. Trinket
6. Shamanistic Rage
7. Bloodlust

Or is there a better priority to start up?

Perhaps

1. Run up
2. Totems
3. Wolves
4. Bloodlust
5. Blood fury
6. Trinket
7. Shamanistic Rage

Thanks for input.

Iwiperaids: The standard answer is change around priorities in enhsim and see what priority gives you the best DPS. I am not 100% sure what mine is off hand, but of the abilities you listed, I think think wolves are near the bottom.

I can offer you the following suggestions:
1) cast flameshock, drop totems before you are in melee range of the boss.
2) when you get in melee range, do priority order.
3) with 4pc t10, #1 priority is probably a sham rage/trinket/blood fury macro. #2 priority is probably wolves but your mileage may vary.
4) It is a good idea to pop wolves then lust, but this is not always possible. Try to have another shaman cast the 1st bloodlust (after your dogs are spawned of course) so you can use your lust cooldown to buff your dogs later in the fight.

Effects of Haste on Elemental Priorities

With the DFO and the upcoming Charred Glowing Scale, it seems that the haste a fully buffed Elemental Shaman can attain will be insanely high.
This much haste will likely GCD cap both LvB and CL and heavily cap them during Elemental Mastery and Heroism.

As such, would it be better to switch to a pure LB rotation over one with LvB during any of those periods?

Using ZAP and some reasonable stats, I get that the damage per cast time of Lava Burst is roughly 14,000 at 50% haste with Chain Lightning at about 8,500. The DPCT of Lightning Bolt is only about 10,500 even at 100% haste with Flame Shock at around 22,500. So, even with global cooldown capped LBs, the only spell you would want to drop is Chain Lightning, and that is only if there are no additional targets for it to jump to.

I am trying to defuse a situation between my raiding shamen. We are attemting ICC 25 hard mode and we have one elemental shaman and one restauration shaman.

Both shaman are refusing to drop a windfury totem for the melee. Both saying the other one ought to drop one.

Could you please give me a clear indication on what totems in this case, these two shaman (retau and elemental) should be dropping (rotface fight for instance)?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does the percent damage buff in ICC affect fire totems/fire elemental?
