I have Loggerhead set up to start logging for Ulduar 10 & 25, and Coliseum 10 & 25. I sometimes am asked to dps based on the needs of a specific boss fight, and I don't stress over starting and stopping the log file. I have water shield uptime set to 30% for determining the most intense mana fight (the old default option), so running out of mana when I'm enhance spec won't affect my calculated mp5 hep value. I cast few enough heals when I dps that I don't worry about them affecting hep for spell power or other stats (and Mental Quickness grants a high enhance spell power anyway).
So I run shaman_hep on a combatlog that has me healing sometimes, dps sometimes, and even on a hunter alt sometimes. The nature of how the parser works means it ignores the stuff that doesn't matter anyway, and I get helpful results. One advantage to my laziness: if ever another guild shaman is interested in a report, I have that data logged.
With the new option in shaman_hep to turn off verbose report output, I noticed some spells the parser isn't able to process. I snipped some relevant lines from my output file:

Note that Lightning Shield (49279) appears to be the orb firing and damaging an enemy, not the spell I cast on myself (which is already in the .pl file).
I added the following lines to shaman_hep.pl in the my %MANA_COST = ( table and it makes a much prettier report for me now (calculated hep values are unaffected):
Unfortunately, addressing this in a release version of the parser is more work than this, as WF, FT & LS all likely have different spell IDs for different ranks. If this is something you feel like bothering with, let me know and I can go beat on a training dummy to log some spell IDs for lower ranks if you want.

Having time spent in other specs in the combatlog will have a slight effect on the data. Mostly the data from other specs will be ignored as it isn't relevant to healing, but total combat time is effected so uptimes and hps is effected.
I haven't added elemental and enhancement spells because shaman_hep doesn't have dual-spec support yet. This is something I would like to add. Ideally I am thinking of having it detect abilities that would indicate enhancement (Stormstrike, Lava Lash, Unleashed Rage, Shamanistic Rage, Maelstrom Weapon, Feral Spirits), or elemental (Elemental Mastery, Elemental Oath, Totem of Wrath, Thunderstorm). If any of these abilities were used during a combat, all data from that combat would be ignored. This is not a simple change as a lot of processing is currently done at the end of each fight, but this change would require all processing to wait until the end of each fight so that a spec for the fight could be determined.

When I model IWS, I use crit rate to adjust the mana cost of the affected spells, which allows them to naturally scale with haste. Again, we could be accomplishing the same thing with different implementations, but my spreadsheet shows that adding IWS to a spec makes Haste comparatively less valuable than other stats. I'd be interested in hearing how Daidalos models it as well, since it's entirely possible I am in error.
When I read scrusi's post #685 in the "[Resto] Best Practices: PvE Healing Discussion" it got me thinking and I realized that not increasing the number of water shield procs over time based on haste was wrong. You get the same mana per iws proc with haste, but you get more casts and thus more procs over time. The effect is minor, but I try to be as accurate as possible.
I also noticed a very big increase in haste hep with 3.2 patch. Possible reasons I can think of include:
Different boss encounters cause me to heal differently.
Less mp5 is needed with 3.2 regen buffs.
Haste has more relative value with 3.2 throughput buffs.
More haste is needed with the change to LHW tidal waves interaction (I don't think this is right, since LHW was still bounded by gcd with the old proc).
An effect from changes to shaman_hep.
My last shaman_hep report hep values from 3.1 patch, 8 hours of in combat healing time (version 2.33):
Since patch 3.2, I have noticed a 50% decrease in the HEP value of the [Insightful Earthsiege Diamond]. Perhaps is was because of the Gen. Vezax fight. I will be sure to run a parse on fights other than Gen. Vezax to verify this. It may be time to revisit the HEP for the [Ember Skyflare Diamond] and compare the two values. The Int HEP has dropped drastically.
Also, there is the issue of [Steamcaller's Totem] vs. the new vendor item [Totem of Calming Tides]. It would be nice to get a HEP value for the totems we have equipped. I am checking out Pawn and DressToKill now. Perhaps there will be an answer there, but the proc rate would only show the real affect in the combat log, I think.
Has anyone done any testing since the patch?

If you noticed, the "Overall in combat mp5" was lower. This very well may be due to spending more time on the Vezax fight where no mana is gained from IED procs. I believe the fluctuations in your IED values are more due to the randomness of how much it is procing in each combatlog than anything that changed in 3.2.
In my 3.2 combatlog, I had "Overall in combat mp5: 34.68" which is significantly higher than your most recent combatlog but similar to one of your previous ones. I would use a larger sample set before throwing out the IED. Although it may be the case that another META might be better for you.

Steamcaller's provides 243 base healing to Chain Heal only.
Calming Tides provides 234 Spellpower to everything when up. 234 Spellpower equals 440 (234*1.88) "Healing Power" and thus 440 base healing to Chain Heal. So as long as it is up 243/440 = 55% of the time, Calming Tides is equal to Steamcaller's for Chain Heal, and obviously much better for everything else.
With the current data (70% proc, 8 sec ICD according to wowhead, I dont have it yet.) you should have close to 100% uptime when spamming chain heal. When you're not spamming chain heal you might not have 100% uptime. But that also means one of two things: either you're (a) not casting cause you dont need to heal or (b) you're mixing in a lot of other heals.
case (a) can be discounted, in case (b) Calming Tides is still vastly superior cause any uptime will benefit the other spells you cast, while Steamcaller's would be mostly wasted.
Another thought. for the loot rankings, the default is set to rare gems, I'm sure most people are using epics these days. Looks like another simple fix for the next release.

I ran logs on several H ToC, and 10 man ToC. [Insightful Earthsiege Diamond] seems to be performing as it did earlier. Must have been only affected by the nature of the encounters in the other logs.

I will have a GEM option so that you can select rare or epic gems next version for the gear ranking links.
I will look into the number of casts canceled issue. I am not sure what changed there as nothing in the code for that should have changed.
Edit: Found the bug, when cleaning up some code a "{" got placed in the wrong place in the code that incremented the chain heal casts started and was causing it to be incremented on most chain heal hits rather than the start of casts and I missed that that field changed when going over diffs of reports between versions. This should have no effect other than on the number of chain heal casts being displayed as a bogus value.

Just a note: I have tried to make sure configuration files are backwards compatible. Any configuration options I have added are optional so that if you do not set them they have a default value. That said, the default value may have different behavior than before, for example, the most recent GEM option defaults to epic, while the old behavior was rare. In addition, I always specify new configuration options in the change logs. This should allow people to upgrade without having to reconfigure shaman_hep each time they upgrade. If you want to use the new configuration options you can add them to your existing configuration file.

Yes, it does effect the results. From the comment in the configuration file:
This is used when calculating the SP vs. mp5 ratio.
It is part of the equation that assigns a weight between SP and mp5. That equation wants to know how much spell power is on your current gear. All healing output is weighted in relation to spell power and all mana regen is weighted in relation to mp5. The basic idea here is that you want a ratio of spell power to mp5 on your gear that gives you enough mp5 not to run out of mana.
It does not make a big difference if the number is a little off. A lot of shaman swap a little bit of gear between fights as needed and as long as the spell power numbers do not change too drastically between the gear shifts it shouldn't skew the numbers too badly.
I also wanted to give a reminder that if you want to make sure you do not have mana problems, you should make sure your gear meets the mana regen requirements specified at the end of the report:

I am tempted to add a Pawn string so that one can more easily add up the mana regen on each of one's items. On each item one adds up the mp5, crit, haste (negative), and int (the mana value is only used if one has a +mana enchant). If all one's gear does not add up the the total mana regen points needed, one will run into situations where one needs to mana pot or receive innervates etc.

I've often wondered whether trinket procs, such as that from Eye of the Broodmother, should be estimated in this value. When I was last going through the code (to try determine how easy it would be to determine how much chain casting I was doing, which has been largely made moot by 3.2) I saw code that was able to note when these sorts of stacking trinket effects occurred, but was never sure that it was being used in calculations anywhere. Personally, I think that this would be a wonderful addition. Right now I do it by hand (though in retrospect it might have been faster to tweak the code to do it given that all the support is already implemented).
Here's a report from last night's Algalon wipes & kill. I post this because I used almost exclusively LHW here (as opposed to the CH spam of the previous log.) Again, above 2 HEP on haste. Seems like haste is definitely THE stat to get (at least for me) no matter the playstyle.

For mana regen, 1 haste=-0.4136
With 1 mp5=1.1262 spellpower, this should give a total haste value of:
2.1165-1.1262*0.4136=1.65
I'm not doubting haste is the most efficient stat for situations where mana isn't much of an issue (as it rarely is), but unless my line of thought is wrong something seems a bit fishy in the final HEP calculations.

The final HEP calculations are fine (the bug is not with the final haste value), the value displayed for haste for its effect on mana regen is too high. Obviously the calculations aren't actually done using the calculation you used, but your calculation should be a sanity check on the value. They should match. Thanks for the catch and I will release the fix soon.
This is excellent. My guild (and me) aren't quite up to Uld 25 hard modes, we are on Yoggy, killed him on 10 and most of the 10 man hard modes (Mimi is tough going by last night). I'm usually the lone Resto shammy, and examining recent logs with this I've come to the conclusion that the pawn values for me (simplified because it only needs to pick between 2-3 items in each slot on each tier of raiding) are...
Not too far from many reports here, so that looks a fair baseline. I am worried that I will be regen starved though if I fully regemmed, so will take the coward's option of regemming onto Haste on new gear and seeing the impact on future raids.
- BUGFIX: The effect of haste on mana regen in the mana regen HEP values was too high (the final haste HEP value was fine).
- Added Pawn and DressToKill Mana Regen strings to make it easier to determine the mana regen value of each item.

Is there any way that I can run the program once on several combat logs (with differing names), or must I cut and paste them together into one file?
You can feed shaman_hep multiple combat logs, and as long as your gear hasn't changed much between the combat logs you will get better cumulative data by feeding it multiple combat logs at once. You do not need to cut and paste them together, just specify each one on the command line (or in the .bat file if you use a .bat file).
