Imp's Demon Soul only affects cast time spells. So I don't suppose it would matter, given that you're are in effect triggering it before your Incinerate casts.

And even if it did, the macro wouldn't work. Since Demon Soul and trinkets do not trigger the GCD, if you include an instant cast in the same macro, that instant cast does not benefit from them.
Same thing goes for Moonwell Chalice and Metamorphosis.

Might be worth changing it to an incinerate macro in that case...

Better yet, an Immolate macro (or both!). Its DPET is way higher than Incinerate's and the critical chance bonus from Demon Soul affects both the direct damage and the periodic damage of Immolate.

Ignorance is showing here, but don't dot's benefit less from crit than regular spells? I think i remember reading something regarding this in the affliction forum a long time ago.

That's not true - only Moonwell Chalice has the delay causing macros to behave unexpectedly. Metamorphosis and Demon Soul and "normal" on-use trinkets do not.

Yes, but since Immolate's duration is equal to DS's duration (disregarding haste), you can make it benefit from it twice if you cast Immolate at the beginning of DS and again as it's about to expire. Beyond that, Incinerate's DPET way smaller than that of Immolate, so I assume an Incinerate crit still does less damage than an Immolate not empowered by Demon Soul, though I'd have to do more math to be certain about that.

Anyway, I'm not sure how relevant this is since the optimal rotation is to cast DS on CD, regardless of anything else. So either you macro it to all your abilities or use it more smartly, i.e., use it on CD unless you have to move or stop casting for any reason. I much prefer the latter, since you can literally waste a whole DS if it happens to trigger from your macro and you have to move for a long time right after that.

I like the idea of macro'ing it to every spell for the most part, since my only concern with actually manually clicking/hitting a button that it's bound to wastes time for something that is off of the GCD and it would run the risk of actually missing an entire DS towards the entire fight. But keeping it handy for just before popping heroism is something to consider.

Thanks for the quick update.

I was rather bored and decided to play around with simcraft for a bit.
Since Chaos bolt is now no longer used during backdraft or bloodlust, dropping it all together is a small dps loss and Bane of Havoc isn't used for all fights I decided to drop both of them and take Improved Searing Pain instead.

Start casting Searing Pain when targets hp is under 20%, still using Incinerate during backdraft.
For a patchwerk fight this was a loss of about 500dps for my current gear level (33.7k to 33.2k) for a movement fight this dps difference dropped to only 100dps. (26.5k to 26.4k)

In reality this difference might even be smaller considering searing pain favours movement. I don't know much about scaling so I wouldn't know how this would go with better gear.

Atm the only lines I added where:
actions+=/incinerate,if=buff.backdraft.up
actions+=/searing_pain,if=target.health_pct<=20|cast_time>=0.9

Guess what I'm trying to figure out is if there's anything else to change to see if we can slim down this dps difference even more or even get searing pain to top it. Maybe using Soul Burn - Searing pain if instant Soul Fire is up. I would have no idea how to start adding that, first time I use SimCraft.
I know it would be very situational but guess its interesting nevertheless, or not ^^

Hello fellow warlock friends!

I can see that you have a very nice table on the first page showing the dps gain for DI.

Could you show us how this was calculated?

Thank you.

I see that the Haste cap is at 2685. Is this assuming that you have a shaman in your raid to give the additional haste buff? I am in a 10man raid and with my first two pieces of gear I am at 2618 haste unbuffed. So my question is, does your 2685 cap assume that we will be getting the raid buff from a shaman's wrath totem? and if so, what haste should I attain knowing that I don't run with a shaman?

Thanks,

Med

Where did u get that 2685? As far as I know the "haste plateau" is at 30% raid buffed, which is 2437 for goblins and 2589 for others, with full haste buffs from raid, i.e Dark Intent and shaman's totem/moonkin aura/spriest aura.

So no, you don't need shaman if you have a balance druid or shadow priest, they give the same haste buff as the totem.

edit: Is that 2685 some plateau for BL to reach next tick(s)?

I guess I'm still not clear as to what it is exactly, I have 20.44% (2618) haste with no buffs. Medvayne @ Emerald Dream - Game - World of Warcraft So, from the looks of it with the 2618 I am there, but I'm not at 30% haste, so I'm not too sure what this means. It's probably me not having a full understanding of it all, but I don't quite understand why that 2618 haste is not converting to 30% roughly. Check out that link to my armory and I think you will see what I am talking about.

I have no idea where 2685 came from, but on the front page of this thread it says the haste cap atm is 2681 for non-goblins under the reforging section.

You need 30% haste to reach the second extra tick on Immolate. In order to reach 30% haste, you need 2589 haste rating while raid buffed, i.e., 3% haste from Dark Intent and 5% haste from either Wrath of Air Totem, Mind Quickening or Moonkin Aura.
In your case, 20.44% haste converts to around 30.26% haste raid buffed:
1.2044 * 1.03 * 1.05 = 1.3025586

The recommended 2681 haste rating regards a fourth extra tick (70% haste) during BL/Heroism, which is explained in the Stat Priorities section.
