Is it be better, in mop, to use macros like these

/cast Metamorphosis
/cast Doom

or

/cancelaura Metamorphosis
/cast Hand of Guldan

to enter or exit metamorphosis and avoid time spent while you are moving your finger from the metamorphosis button to a button of the spell that needs to be cast next, when your have metamorphosis on a separate button. I have counted that metamorphosis was cast 28 times and canceled 14 times, in simulationcraft demonology 5.0.4 sample sequence, so if it takes you 0.3 seconds to move finger from button to button that would be 11,4 seconds of dead time. I think that is a lot.

Chain-channeling the same spell incurs no penalty - what we're talking about is following a channel with a different spell, which can't be done by a human without wasted time.

And yes, our channeled spells cost mana per tick, but they also have a mana cost associated with the initial cast.

Have there been any maths or study around the convertion between expertise and spellhit? I know this is a shady topic at the minute since we dont know much about it. But Im wondering about it since it -could- if the convertion is beneficial enough make Human the prime race for PVE-warlocks. It all depends on how much the convertion rate is.

3 Expertise at this date should be around ~0,92% hit if its directly converted point for point. Not as strong as I hoped it would be, but was hoping someone could shed more light on this.

Expertise is converted directly to spell hit, so in MoP humans will have 1% extra spell hit if wielding a sword.

This is assuming they don't change it so that the expertise is only applied to weapon-based attacks, which in my opinion would make more sense.

According to the retribution paladin thread, expertise from racials will not grant spell hit.
http://elitistjerks.com/f76/t129896-...7/#post2167545 and the following posts elaborate a bit on the topic.
Granted, that discussion was over a month ago, so by now it could very well have been changed, we are still in beta after all. If that is the case, humans will likely have a slight edge regarding itemization for warlocks in MoP, maybe even enough to get them more in line with some of the other racials for warlocks.

There are only 10 types of people... those who understand binary and those who don't.

Should Expertise convert to Spell Hit for pure casters? Or is that only supposed to work for melee classes that use weapon attacks that deal spell damage? (Pardon my ignorance here, I know nothing of melee stats.) Basically, I'm wondering if every Human Mage and Warlock is going to be looking for swords now.
Yes, Expertise should indeed convert to spell hit, even for pure casters. Casters might have a slight preference for certain types of weapons (as melee have for years). We make some mage blades, but not a lot.

Hi everyone, I don't play a lock but have a question regarding warlock performance comparing to other dps classes with 5.0.4 changes.
The warlock in our 10-man raid usually performs really well but atm is really frustrated and sub-standard. Have locks been somehow nerfed or misdesigned in 5.0.4 so that there is no chance to keep up or is this just a matter of understanding new mechanics and stat weights, so that you are doing competitive dmg as a warlock again?

Thanks for your help, Bela

With all the new mechanics of the class it might take whomever your lock is a bit to adjust, but they are in no way "behind" the other classes.

If you were curious what you should be looking for in combat logs.
Affliction
95-100% uptime on DoT's (agony/unstable affliction/corruption) is desirable. Using Dark Soul Misery on CD (a use for every 2mins and 20s in a fight), GSac or Observer as the pet of choice. Malefic Grasp should be the rest of the time pretty well.

Destro
95-100% uptime on immolate, conflag should have a cast every 12s of a fight (if it is a minute fight you should see 5-6 casts) and for every 7-8 casts of Incinerate you should see either a Chaos Bolt or Shadow Burn. Either Gsac or Observer as a pet. Dark soul instability should have a use for every 2mins in a fight (3min fight should have 2, etc)

Demo
95-100% uptime on corruption and Doom, Hand of Guldan should have a use every 15s (1 min fight should have 4-5 uses). Shadow Bolts and Soul Fires should be the majority of the rest of the damage. Either Wrathguard or 2 felguards should be their demon of choice.

Obviously these are rash generalizations of each spec but it should give you a rough idea of what to look for

Thanks a lot, Wobb, especially for the detailed extra info. This should speed up the search for the best rotation / priority.

There are some much better guides to 5.0 for locks out there then what I put up

Icy Veins does a decent Job

Affliction Warlock DPS Spec, Builds, Talents, and Glyphs (WoW MoP 5.0.4) - Icy Veins

Destruction Warlock DPS Guide (WoW MoP 5.0.4) - Icy Veins

Demonology Warlock DPS Guide (WoW MoP 5.0.4) - Icy Veins

I don't think the icy veins strats have the latest updates. For example, for our rotation it has the old beta shadow trance mechanic:

Cast Haunt when you have a Soul Shard or when you are in Shadow Trance.
Each time you deal damage, you have a small chance to enter Shadow Trance, removing the Soul Shard cost of your abilities for 5 seconds.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation regarding Nightfall/Shadow Trance floating around. I imagine it has something to do with it proccing and giving a duration buff that does nothing other than alert you that it has given you a new Soul Shard. Obviously, it's this way because of the iterations the mechanic underwent, but the state it went live at lends itself to some confusion.

Sixty percent of the time, Ret has a twenty percent chance to work every time. Or else become a warlock.

Regarding the icy veins class guides I agree with Badahs. For Ret paladins they do not have the latest updates included and some of their suggestions are not optimal. Their reaid guides are really great though.
Are there any others mentionable warlock guides around, that get updated regularly? (Except for this thread )

I have a meh one I put together for affliction a while ago for a couple guildies that were asking about how affliction was changing.

Affliction Lock (Panda Edition)

Includes vague gear goals, some thoughts on darksoul, etc.
