I have a rotation/priority question regarding a deep Destruction spec. Let me set up the situation. Immolate has 1.5s left on it. Chaos Bolt and Conflagrate are on cooldown with CoD already up on the target. You are down 1300 mana and your Life Tap buff has 9 seconds left on it. What do you cast?

My question comes from the fact that, with haste, my cast means that I'll be clipping if I try to Immolate so that's a bad choice. However, my Incinerates aren't fast enough to finish before the Immolate DoT falls off, so I'll lose the damage buff for that cast. Life Tap would be mostly wasted and you don't need to refresh the buff yet anyway. It seems that Incinerate is the choice but it feels like I'm losing out by losing the Immolate buff for that cast. Just second guessing my instinct here and wanted to get a second opinion.

You could always wait 0.x seconds and cast another immolate.

I can't remember if the damage bonus of Immolate being up is applied when your Incinerate is cast or when it hits. If it's when it hits, couldn't you just cast Incinerate then reapply Immolate while it is in the air, depending on your distance from the boss?

I've thought of that option but it seems a general rule that if you're waiting at any point you're losing potential DPS.
You make a very good point. I'll test this out on the dummy tonight. I was under the impression that the bonus was calculated when it landed, which was where my initial worry came from about Immolate falling off before the cast was complete. If that's the case then, at least in theory, it makes casting Incinerate ideal if you follow it up with Immolate.

What about death coil? When I'm in those situations (as an affliction lock) I tend to cast that, shadowflame (if range allows), or rank 1 life tap for the 4pt7 bonus.

For leveling I would go with anything that has the new siphon life. You will gain 40% to your health from any damage done by this dot. With that, I would go 21 in affliction first. After that you have 2 decent hitting dots you can put on everything (and get healed in the process). After the 21 in affliction its personal preference.. but, I would get 1 or 2 into fel snyergy to keep your pet alive and possibly go all the way down in demo to felguard.

Another starting lock was asking about best gear he could get for 5 man instances. First off the bosses in 5 mans are not lvl 83 but are lvl 82. You will only need a total of 6% from gear and talents (possibly 3% from the affliction tree). Another thing to consider is what specs work good and which are poor for 5 mans. I would go some sort of Felguard/destro mix for the burst damage.

Gear places -
1. Check on a site like Wowhead: Working as intended. and find the cloth armor search. You can then find which stuff is crafted and have that made.
2. Check each 5 man instance on that same site for the drops in normal and heroic mode. You then check all the drops for any warlock useable item. To speed up this search put in useable by warlock and str/ap/ag = 0 (to filter out all the physical dps rings, cloaks, etc). You now can see by each 5 man instance which gear you can use. I would then make a list. Epic cloth gloves from instance A, Epic caster wand from instance B, blue quality caster helm from instance C.
3. Check your faction rep rewards. Do you need a good set of caster boots? If so you would probably want to use your Argent Crusade tabbard to work towards them.

25 Man pugs that are ok
There are a few places that are puggable and offer up great loot even when you have to team with really bad players.
1. Naxx 25 or 10 the spider wing - I would say most all pugs can get thru at least that much. There are some good items to be hand at minimal work.
2. 25 man or 10 man vault - The old boss there is super pug friendly and you could quite possibly walk out with an epic quality set part (usually chest or legs).
3. Obsidian Sanctum 10 or 25 man with no drakes is also quite easy and a good source of loot.

I've been trying to constantly keep my life tap buff (w/ 4pc t7) at all times, usually with a rank 1 life tap. However, upon browsing some of these threads, I've read that this is not optimal for DPS. What is the general stance on this?

With the Glyph of LT, you should be keeping the glyph buff up, not the T7 proc.

I saw this happen with Corruption last night in Ulduar. It hasn't happened enough for me to find a pattern through. Might be worth moving to the Warlock Bugs thread.

The reason your getting this error is because blizz made it to were you can't over write a dot like corruption if you casted it during say a trinket proc because it will do more dmg then the new corruption your trying to cast that isnt under a trinket proc. With that said stop clipping your dots and this won't be a issue.

Now that 3.1 allows an imp's fire shield to be cast raid-wide, I've been searching for a macro that allows this to happen. I've read in various forums that pet macro spells both can and cannot be done, and am looking to clear up the confusion.

I've found done a good bit of searching and have found macros on fire shielding myself, but nothing on the scale of multiple targets. I myself am fairly macro impaired, so if it IS possible, can someone direct me on creating said macro?

Hey guys im a fairly new lvl 80 lock. I was sporting Demo but made the change to Destruction when I found my DPS was waaayyyy under par and I dont like affliction much.

My gear is all blues (bar the green staff) and now 1 epic (gloves) but im not 100% convinced my gear is the only problem.

my spell stats are:
Damage: 932 (unbuffed, 1258 with Fel Armor spell)
Healing: 932
Hit Rating: 90
Crit Chance: 11.62%
haste rating: 43
Mana Regen: 271

Ive also check out a whole bunch of rotations but they have varied the avg dmg by very small amounts (usually within 200-300)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your spell damage is 932 unbuffed, your gear is terrible. No matter what rotation you use, you are not going to pull very high dps. The simple answer you are looking for is that you need to sort your gear out.

Here is a gear set I compiled (pre 3.1, but that won't matter much) using entirely BoE blue gear - i.e, cheap stuff you will be able to buy from the AH. That alone will get you to 1300 spell power, which should be sufficient for you to do heroics if you have your rotation sorted. From there on, use a warlock pre-raid gear guide to see which heroics you want to get drops from, which epic drops or crafted gear you need, and so forth. I'm sure you'll find something if you do a search.

I would really avoid trying to use destruction as a newly 80 warlock. The gear/stat requirements are really high to make good use of destruction, whereas they are very low for the FG/EB spec. Plus, the FG is ridiculously good at low gear levels (in relative terms).

You need to get the mod updated. There was a UI change in patch 3.1 and if you don't get your mod updated your going to see everyone'd debuff.

Is the bonus that incinerate gets from immolate being on the target still static?

Is there an up-to-date version of Best in Slot lists for hit/non-hit. If so could you please point me in the right direction

Anyone familiar with how pet mana works on Vezax? My guild's about to start our first attempts and I'm wondering if my FG can last the fight considering there's no replenishment or whatever it is he normally needs to avoid going oom.

Pets aren't affected by the vezax debuff as far as I could tell.

I know what GC is saying but player testing has proven that it is static. This may have been a bug since the day Incinerate was given to us in BC.

Incinerate and Immolate -- There does seem to be a bug where spellpower is not getting applied correctly. We don't know at this point if this is an old or new bug. Certainly there used to be a lot of spells that didn't scale with spellpower, though we now make an attempt to make sure almost all of them do. It may matter less with the F&B change, but we'll still get it resolved.
