Hi, I'm starting a new warlock on a friend's server and am a bit boggled with the profession choice - I'll surley be a scribe, the other profession is still open though - tailoring or enchanting. Assuming money for lvling is not a problem, which of them benefits a raiding warlock more? On a side note - which gives more profit in your experience (I know it changed from server to server, but still).

All of them have about the same overall benefit. If you do lots of heroics (and with 3.2, you will) then enchanting will be the most profitable.

Between those two choices, tailoring gives the a very nice cloak enchant; but has a substantially less "profit making" value than enchanting. I would definitly choose enchanting. You could also consider alchemy, 2h flasks are big time gold savers for anyone who raids weekly.

Does anyone have any info yet as to whether or not the new trinket [Reign of the dead] will proc off dot crits? I have read in one thread from another site that lock dot crits aren't actually crits but the damage is just applied twice? Not sure if that info was right or not and not sure if the info would be out about this or not, but this could potentially be an extremely promising trinket if it can be triggered by dot crits. Thoughts?

Warlock Dot crits are -indeed- critical strikes. They register with the sever as critical strikes and - as such - could proc Reign of the Dead. There have been rumors of Reign of the Dead having an internal 2 minute cooldown, although I haven't found anything (Except the tooltip on mmo-champions) to confirm or deny this.

Enchanting is more profitable, Tailoring is a more viable PvE profession.

It seems that there is still no conclusion (post patch 3.2) on which spec will yield highest DPS. I'm particularly interested in top DPS specs assuming BiS gear, though what I'd really love to see is a 3.2 raiding compendium. I've been raiding as destro (0/13/58) for all of my Wrath raiding career, but with patch 3.2 my DPS has definitely suffered. On the other hand, affliction was buffed a bit with the patch. So, any estimates on when to expect spec DPS comparisons, or, even better, a full raiding compendium? Even new weight factors for each major 3.2 spec would be really nice.
I would have no problem contributing to some of this work myself, but it seems like the current numerical tools haven't quite been updated to account for the latest changes.

Hi, been looking through the forums for warlock macros that would really be helpful in BGs, but I couldn't find one. Would really appreciate a link or some suggestions. I need macros to help manage the felhunter better. Thanks!

Does anyone have any insight into the ISB/scorch/winter's chill debuff conflict?
Unless I'm missing something losing scorch and/or winter's chill will be a hit to a mage's DPS because of the self-buff that they lose. However, I can't imagine my Affliction spec without ISB would be worth a damn.
I haven't seen much discussion on this lately, are people not using Affliction anymore?

In all honesty, regardless of what in theory will be top dps, there are too many factors to say that one is unquestionably higher dps than the other. It is really dependent on playstyle and the encounter you're looking at. For example, as an affliction lock, there is another destro lock which usually tops me out dps-wise in our raids. However, when it comes to fighting yogg, I blow him out the water. So, depending on the fight, one spec can have an edge over another.
I am very curious as to whether or not they've managed to bridge the gap between destro and aff with this tier set and new BiS, and I am curious about seeing some numbers myself.
I am dropping my pvp spec soon to make my second spec a destro build, allowing me to test my dps with recount in-game and seeing which one in practice will be higher dps during which encounters, along with on the heroic test dummy of course. This will of course take a couple months as I will be waiting to get my tier 9 along with at least a couple BiS for my char prior to this. I will provide all info as far as my exact builds for each spec., equipped gear, etc.

Yes, I had read somewhere as well about the 2min internal cooldown. If that is the case, it seems our BiS trinkets might not change. I would find it surprising that they would give a trinket with such a high ilvl an internal cd of 2mins as it would eliminate it's usefulness as far as new content for serious raiders. I guess we will need to wait and see once people get this item as to what the case is. If this however does not have the 2min internal cd, this may very well make it to one of our BiS trinkets I believe.

Has anyone tried the [enchant weapon - black magic] as an aff lock since the new patch? I doubt it has been changed enough to be comparable to the sp enchant, but was curious as to whether or not anyone has actually tested and confirmed it yet?

There is no conflict.
Mages don't scorch if there's an Afflock and most Mages don't raid as Frost except maybe for Vezax where in return Afflocks click on their Destro Button usualy.

The same happens with Imp. Scorch overwriting Winter's Chill.

Here are parses from today ToC 25 mans.
On Beasts, first warlock is destruction, second warlock is aff. Difference is marginal. (Equipment being roughly equivalent)
World of Logs - Real Time Raid Analysis
Logs from Zaraxus later on are a bit irrelevant since as a new fight perfomance varied too much from try to try to warrant any assumptions about DPS. (I had more than 600 DPS variance between some tries and the final kill )

Well since they had changed the [enchant weapon - black magic] enchantment, figured i'd give it a try on the test realms. I have to say I was pretty shocked.
Though it's hard to know for sure as there were so many others hitting the test dummy with debuffs, I believe that when i went from the +sp enchant on my weapon to the black magic enchant, I actually gained about 150 dps (in a 4min round on the heroic dummy). I am very curious if anyone else can confirm this as like I said, it was difficult for me to do so since there are always so many people on the test dummy in the test realm.
I'm not even sure how this is possible unless the curse benefits from our +sp as the curse itself only does a small amount of damage at face value. From my testing however, it does seem that the black magic weapon enchant may be a promising replacement to the spell power one. Again, I would appreciate it if someone else could test this as well to confirm?
*edit* - did more research. it seems like someone did have a debuff on it during the black magic enchant, bringing up the dps slightly. however, testing both enchants on another dummy that was untouched by anyone but myself, i tested both enchants for 4mins each, 4times each. Both +63 spell power and black magic actually came out to almost the same dps-wise, black magic averaging out to be just +10 spell power above the sp enchant. So it does seem that black magic has indeed somehow caught up to +63sp, at least on the dummy testing.

Hello,
How do you calculate the max number of Incinerate, Chaos bolt, and Conflags that could be cast during a boss fight? I understand how to calculate the max number of DOT ticks but not the others.
Thank you in advance.

Chaos bolt has a 12 second cooldown, and conflagrate a 10 second one. So that should be somewhat straightforward - you would like to see each spell used more-or-less on cooldown. Incinerate is harder, since you need to account more for movement (since it's the filler spell), but also backdraft and haste considerations (you can ignore the cast time in the calculations of chaos bolt and conflag, but not incinerate). I'd say - run a simcraft on the warlock in question, see how many incinerates the sim gets off in 5 minutes and use that as an asymptotically good goal - expect to see about 80% of that number in a patchwerk-style fight and FAR fewer in any fight with movement / lockouts.

Focus Magic
Hello there, so my main is a lock very good dps, and i had a discussion with my rol lider about the buff Focus Magic.
our discussion beggins me telling him that the focus magic is better on locks that is on themselfs they make this rotation were the mages put themselves the buff that way they say they get 6% of crit insted of 3% off it, ok i agree that 6% is a lot more than 3% but the dps on the mages are way to low in raid. so heres my question how can i prove to him that giving that buff to locks or other clases that are high in dps is better, or how can i prove my self wrong.
Is there a program i can use?
thank you

If I can tease the meaning out of what you're saying here, I think it just adds up to the mages arguing that they can "loop" the FM casts between the mages, whereas a warlock cannot reciprocate FM back. E.g. if you have 3 mages A, B, and C, then A can FM B, B FMs C, and C FMs A.

yes thats what they do, but the dps of the mages still sucks big time at least half of them. so im trying to probe that is better for warlocks beocuse the dps increment on the lock is higher than in the mages.
i apologyze for my english
so is there any way i can probe right or wrong this theory

This is not precisely valid. Chaos bolt's cooldown does not begin until the spell is complete, and the cast cannot begin until the cooldown ends, so you only get 1 per 14 seconds, reduced by haste. In addition, when Conflagrate and CB clash, it increases the effective cooldown of CB slightly since you prioritize the Conflag and delay the CB another GCD.

Okay, here's one that I'd really like to know and haven't found an answer to:
For each faction (Ally/Horde) there are distinctly named tier pieces and sets. Within each factions (set of) sets, there are multiple levels of gear. In particular, I'm thinking of the Triumphant vs the Conqueror's T9 sets.
My question is thus: can you combine pieces from the Triumphant and Conqueror's T9 sets to get the set bonus (since the set boni are indeed the same, and the gear is pretty much just different quality versions of the same tier gear), or does this not work (since the Triumphant and Conqueror sets are in fact different sets)? I know this is more general than just warlocks but I figure this is as good a place as any to ask.
