Are you sure about this? I know many people, myself included, have had problems with recount not showing the proper DPS, sometimes 500+ less than what is shown in their WorldofLogs reports. I haven't noticed any significant DPS loss when I check my DPS on the log, but I have noticed my recount numbers being lower in some cases. Just something to look into.

There's been a lot of questions on various forums about which gear to upgrade first with trophies from the new instance. Since the majority of the complaints about the warlock dps spreadsheet had to do with incompatibility between versions of office and/or open office, I decided to look into making a google spreadsheet to calculate dps for upgrades purely based on stats. It's available here.
| DPS Gain By Spec | Robes | Shoulders | Leggings | Gloves | Hood | Total | | 00_13_58 | 63.33 | 43.01 | 50.61 | 50.74 | 67.37 | 275.06 | | 03_13_55 | 80.18 | 52.52 | 40.24 | 44.61 | 73.74 | 291.29 | | 53_00_18 | 60.93 | 46.84 | 57.35 | 56.62 | 68.97 | 290.71 | | 03_52_16 | 53.87 | 31.20 | 53.98 | 51.50 | 61.02 | 251.57 | | 00_56_15 | 77.12 | 49.69 | 45.64 | 50.52 | 74.00 | 296.97 | | 00_41_30 | 80.11 | 43.61 | 37.09 | 41.67 | 71.09 | 273.57 | | 00_40_31 | 57.96 | 28.53 | 51.64 | 49.33 | 62.54 | 250.00 |
These values are derived using the scaling factors from simulationcraft (referenced in the spreadsheet here).
Feel free to PM me if you have questions or corrections. I made the assumption that you can achieve hit cap through other means - that stat is not involved in these calculations.

Um yeah.. but what about engineering? Nice buff in 3.2... rockets for gloves (pvp), 320 haste for gloves (pve), which you can macro with incinerate to get a nice 10 sec rotation. Also 5sec super fast boot with crit (pvp) and many other helpful things, like mailboxes, repair bots, mechanopets, bombs (meh), and the cloak/parachute with 29sp.
anyways... I am partial to engineering, but enchanting gives the $ and I think also the extra ring sp?

Best evidence I have of this is look at total damage, and I will be 1 or 2, and then look at dps, and I'm number 3... prertty consistently in my 10 man group. 2 geared hunters usually top me on dps chart, but not overall damage.
Also, my big beef is the wait I have to cast Conflag after Immo... gotta be a bug no? just takes too long, longer than GC it seems for sure. I have even resorted to casting incinerate ..then go back to conflag, CB, incinerate rotation..
Thoughts?

Search function will more than answer this. Are you looking for optimal professions? Because engineering falls in suboptimal still compared to quite a few others.

Mainly because of the 340 haste enchant, simcraft shows a ~50 DPS increase, changing inscription to engineering. In addition you get 27sp instead of 23haste (back) and 24crit instead of 18spirit, 12hit/crit or my favorite one: 15stamina/runspeed (boots).

I've addressed compatability issues in the DPS spreadsheet (there are still some outstanding issues but they seem to be OpenOffice configuration problems). Backwards compatability in Excel now seems to be resolved.
I have also now added the T9 gear.

Hit Cap
Why would both Simcraft (r3114) and the warlock DPS spreadsheet (v3.2.0a) show that adding additional hit rating would increase my DPS when I am hit capped? Simcraft shows no misses; spreadsheet shows 17% total +hit chance.
As I understand it, hit rating simply reduces the chance of spell misses, and has no other benefit. Am I missing something fundamental about how hit rating works or is this a result of how the simulator and calculator work?

For stats with caps, SimulationCraft will use a negative delta-stat...... essentially telling you how much DPS you lose by removing a unit of Hit Rating.

You clearly didn't even scroll up to see this post regarding that exact question. I don't know what spec you're looking for an answer with regard to, so I can't point you any more specifically towards the weakest piece.

I have been looking but unable to find (perhaps I'm blind?) how good (or bad) the T9 set bonuses are. The stats on the T9 gear are frankly not that great (too much crit as usual) and I'd rather go with non-set badge pieces (lots of spell power and haste), but am not sure.
I'm 0/13/58, so Empowered Imp is what may make that 2 set great.

So I got Vezax HM gloves today (finally and nobody else wanted them) and I'm wondering as a 3/13/55 spec (normally 0/13/58 until I lost the hit on the T8 gloves=\ ) whether it's worth it to break the 4pc T8 bonus and get the T9 ilvl 245 shoulders (token+triumph badge version) since I still have the 10man T8 shoulders after all this time (drops hate me). I've seen a few people here and there breaking their 4pc w/out having 2pc T9 already so was curious if it's actually worth it or not? Confused, Party of One! Stat-wise, they'd be a bigger upgrade for me than most of the other pieces until Heroic T9.
I'd use the OptiGear sim, but have not been able to get it functioning on my Mac so that's out for now until I can figure out a solution.

I downloaded simcraft-r3178-windows.zip and I was able to use this program to simulate dps with a warlock near mine in talents tree. My problem is that I don’t understand how to make a simulation with my specific warlock. I read that probably I have to use somewhere the string “armory=eu,realm, name” but is not clear.

To clarify, that's something you would type in a shell (on a Windows machine). Specifically, the part you type or paste is what's after the "C:\Simcraft>".

Hi,
I would like to have some help about new stuff from Trial of crusade.
My actual stats are (w/felarmor) :
2570 SP
606 haste
232 crit
hit overcapped
Destruction 3/13/55
I have the tier 8.5 2P bonus (chest+legs), and an ulduar 25 haste gear (wavering calm, wyrm hunter, plentiful recovery).
I have a trophy of crusade and I don't know which piece buy
My trinkets are :
[Illustration of the Dragon Soul]
[Living Flame]
[Talisman of Volatile Power] (not equipped)
Can you give me some help about the best choice of T9 and trinkets set ? Can I broke the 2PT8 bonus ?
Is talisman better than living flame ?
Thank's

Here is a simple one. To quote the tooltip for Demonic Pact, "Demonic Pact increases spell power by 10% of your Spell Damage for 12 sec.". What is 10% of my "Spell Damage"? Is it my spell power or the damage I did with my last spell? The wording seems confusing.

T9 2 Piece is Amazing, you should aim for that first. Since you have chest and legs, Get the Shoulders and gloves for t9.
Talisman isn't that great of a trinket, lvl 219 Trinkets are better than it. You should stick with Living Flame

Hello, with new abundance of haste gear in the new patch, it would seem to me that being gcd cap while backdraft is up while become an issue that most 13/58, or 3/13/58 warlocks will have to deal with. My question is, at what haste rating with a backdraft proc does a warlock become gcd cap casting choas bolt or incinerate, assuming such standard raid buffs such as the moonkin +haste buff and the +haste buff from shaman totems?
Is there a point where haste becomes significantly less valuable for warlocks?
Additionally, a step by step guide for setting up simcraft specifically to load my character off the armory would be appreciated. I've figured out how to use rawr, which numbers seem oddly off especially for glyphs. I realize this topic has been gone over even on this page, but I still don't really understand what to do.

I am trying to make a choice on secondary specialization.
Brief history: I began gaming playing a magician in Everquest and have been playing for over 8 years. A while back, my son-in-law talked me into trying WoW. At first, I created an Alliance Mage and specialized in Frost.
It was at that time, after leveling to 70 that I found that a Mage in WoW was more like the class called Wizard in Everquest. The Wizard is the master of Fire and Frost spells and has a "snare" ability that allows him to solo, using the snare to restrict the enemy movement while casting very high direct damage spells from a distance.
I wasn't very happy with the play style of the WoW mage, as it was significantly different from the Magician I play in Everquest, in which rank in the top 25 on my server.
Enter Karoshi, the Horde Blood Elf Warlock. I found that by specializing in Demonology (0, 71, 0) I was able to field a monster of a companion with which I was able to solo my way to level 80, matching my method of play in Everquest. I can send in the pet and nuke from the cheap seats, rarely ever taking damage to myself. In Everquest, the play style is equally good whether soloing, grouping, or raiding.
While the Mage is like the Wizard in Everquest, I discovered that, depending on specialization, the Warlock can be like the EQ magician (nuke ability with pet tank (demonology)), the EQ Wizard (nuke ability (destruction) with the added benefit of a pet (not available in EQ)) or the EQ Necromancer and pet (DoT ability (affliction)).
Like I said, I basically soloed my way to level 80. Demonology was really beneficial in keeping me alive all this time. But I understand that destruction and affliction specializations are more desirable to a raid or dungeon group.
So, to get the long question simple again, I'm interested in hearing the pros and cons of Affliction vs. Destruction.

You really do not want to put 71 points in any one tree. Grab the key talents that will improve what you are trying to do whether that be PVP, 5mans, 10mans, 25mans, or even farming, and skip the bad ones. Check out the Simcraft thread for how the different talents specs compare in theorectical damage at least. Also, check the individual threads and read up on the specs for some better understanding.
Affliction
--------------
Pros: Great single target dps, great AOE dps (Seed), Improved Shadow Bolt 5% Crit Debuff is a very minimal loss of dps below 25%
Cons: Lacks Burst, requires keeping close to 100% uptime on DOTs for maximum dps
Destruction
--------------
Pros: Amazing Burst DPS (great for add heavy fights in Ulduar), great single target dps, can provide replenishment and stam buff.
Cons: Dependant on Imp staying alive for Empowered Imp buff and DPS. Less powerful Seed and RoF damage for AOE.
