You didn't cast a single immolate during the fight, and despite this Kasama was able to cast 14 more shadowbolts than you.
The bottom line is you need to do a much better job of managing your GCD's, you need to get or pay more attention to your DoT timer and you need to cast Immolate.
Going back and looking at the date of the kill, I'm going to assume you improved a whole lot already, as you have the 3 minute Patchwerk achievement from 1/29/09 and this WWS was from 1/13/09 and the 1/13 kill took 4:26.

First thank you for your response.
Is there any stats that should be improved ie more crit over haste or such?

It's been a little while since I last played a lock (last time was Naxx v1), but my guild have asked that I pull out my old char as we were a little short of them. Now I have been reading the Affliction thread, but find my DPS is quite a bit short of the other locks in the guild (both of which are Felguard/Emberstorm). Is it a gear issue? or I am doing blatantly wrong? and if so, what can I do to put it right? Please be brutal!

Your gear is ok, but by no means amazing. Take this into account when you're comparing your DPS to Warlocks who are performing better. That being said, you can do much better than 3.7k dps in your current gear.
DoT UpTimes (Patchwerk)
Corruption: 78%
UA: 81%
Immolate: 81%
Siphon Life: 80%
CoA: 86%
You're dot uptimes are kind of on the low side, particularly for a stationary fight like Patchwerk, especially corruption, which should have a near 100% uptime since it's refreshed automatically by haunt.
Drain soul: 5 ticks in a 3min fight is extremely low. I got more than twice that number of ticks on my last Patchwerk and mine was ~20 seconds shorter than yours. Make sure you start using it as you filler asap once the boss hits 25%. Also, get a mod or customize quartz to show you when DS ticks will occur so you don't clip ticks early and lose dmg.
Misc points:
1. You're professions don't give you any stat/dps increases. Consider dropping both, or at least one, for a Profession that does - Enchanting, Jewelcrafting, etc.
2. Pop a dps pot sub-25%. Opinions vary on which to use for Affliction. Can't go wrong with Potion of Wild Magic though.
3. In general, now that the bugs with the Felhunter have been fixed it's a better choice over the imp, especially if you don't have a Disc Priest bringing Divine Spirit. Use the Doomguard on fights where you really want to see how far you can push your damage output. It will outperform even the Felhunter + Infernal combo now that it's been buffed.
4. You're 1% over the hit cap for 25-mans. (12% - gear, 3% - talents, 3% - Shadow Priest = 18%) Drop a point in cataclysm and put a point into Molten core. You can drop a point in suppression too, but there's no good place to put it in early Affliction that will increase dps by any amount worth mentioning.
5. You're gloves aren't enchanted according to armory. I'm assuming you just got them and didn't have a chance to yet. You're belt is missing an extra gem slot from an Eternal belt buckle also.
6. Can't see which glyphs you have, but you should be using Immolate, Siphon Life, and CoA.
I didn't see a Boomkin or an Elemental Shaman in your WWS, but you can't do much about that. Just something to consider when you compare yourself to locks outside you raid. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks, that has been very useful. The gloves are new, in fact all that gear is fairly new, due to me switching chars, i've basically just been boosted, so my gear has gone through quite a number of changes. Guess I need to practice a little a keeping my DoTs at higher percentages - in reference to this, is it better to hold off on a Shadowbolt in order to refresh a DoT at the optimal time? or cast a Shadowbolt, and refresh directly after it? According to the Affliction post it's always best to be casting something, but i'm curious, is there an optimal median, dependant on how much time there is left on a ticking dot - e.g. 0.5secs seems it may be worthwhile waiting, whereby >1sec casting a Shadowbolt may be better.

There is probably no optimal median, and this amount of timer stare-age (deciding if you have 0.5 seconds vs. 1.1 seconds and then deciding to cast a dot or shadowbolt) is surely going to lower your practical dps.

Short answer: It's always a dps loss to sit there casting nothing, even if it's for as small a span of time as 0.5 sec. This whole question is part of what makes Affliction challenging, but frustrating, for perfectionist. Let me give you an example of what I often run into -
Say I start casting a SB. And my UA timer has 2.5 seconds left on it. I need to make a quick calculation about how long my UA dot will have left on it by the time my SB is done casting. Since my UA has a 1.3 cast time with passive haste, if the duration >1.3 sec when SB ends then I cast another SB. If it's <1.3 seconds I refresh UA. It's virtually impossible to do an eyeball estimate of a few tenths of a second with this degree of detail when you're paying attention to a half dozen other things and the dot timer itself is ticking down so fast. So if you ever suspect you're going to clip a dot by refreshing it at that moment, just use your filler spell instead. Ideally you need to know what your next 1-2 spells are going to be in advance as you're casting your current one. You just have to live with the fact that the timing will always work out weird and one or more of your dots might fall off for a second or two.
Also, watch out for haste procs from Eradication, trinkets, or Bloodlust. It will throw your timing/calculations way off and you'll start clipping dots like crazy if you're not prepared for it.

Hello all, I need some help on breaking 6k dps on Heroic Patchwerk. Here are the parses from last week:
WWS
WMO
Armory
As can be seen, the WWS parse doesn't include doomguard damage. I didn't have Illustration of the Dragon Soul (was using Sundial + Mark of the War Prisoner) nor the T7.5 pants at that time (was wearing pants from MH). I was hit capped.
I had every buff under the sun, except single-target damage buffs like PI and TotT. Food flask spellstone wild magic pot etc. etc.. Bloodlust was popped at the beginning which is not optimal, but how much of a difference would it make if it were popped at 35%?
DoT uptimes seemed ok to me. Anything I can do to push it further, other than just getting better gear?

Was just wondering what pots you guys use to max dps. I tend to use a speed pot but for some odd reason my DS ticks last raid were like 9.7k avg and I had two other locks fel/ember but still using corrp/coa in their rotation. Was wondering if the 200 crit 200 spell power pot would be better for higher ticks but it just seems the crit from it is wasted.
Wow Web Stats.
Don't see what else I could do to make it higher. MY doomgaurd did around 1100 I know because the total dmg he did put me over the fel/ember warlock by like 7k dmg done. We didn't have a elem shaman or the mages debuff scorch for some dumb reason. So also the crit rate on the other two locks looks way to high for not having the 10% scorch debuff. My dot uptimes looks decent enough for to me unless I missed something.Actually CoA is the worst at 85% and I think that is because it will expire like right when I'm casting UA and then I still need to cast immo then haunt. Any ideas on how to space them out better in the beginning for it to last the whole fight? All other dots were like 89.9% uptime. Anyone else think my DS ticks are a little low?

Did not have a Elemental Shaman tonight, but I'm still looking for ways to push my numbers. I usually come buffed with a flask, food, and bloodthistle. I also pop Wild Magic pots during Patch and a haste pot around 25% of a boss. Anything else I can do?

Only thing I can see is try to make your dot uptime a little bit higher. Other then that every thing looks good to me. Wish I could get those DS tick numbers. I know double trinket procs increase DS ticks but sometimes it just feels off.Like in the same channel I will hit like 13k then drop to 10k on the next tick without any dots dropping.Anyone else experience this?

another wws
I am a long time reader and researcher here at EJ. I am currently FG/EM mostly due to lag issues and I enjoy the pet management. I am specifically interested in how to make my dmg more consistent. Some of the discrepencies can be explained via, RNG, fight mechanics, etc. but I would like to know if anyone has some specifics that may help. I have a few different gear choices depending on raid makeup. The gear I have on now reflects wanting 4pc and the highest dps items I have, that the spreadsheet identifies.

Hello everyone, this is my first time posting but I have been a frequent reader of these forums for quite some time now.
That being said, I did some napkin calculations on demonic pact versus personal affliction DPS and came out with a possible increase in raid dps if I went demonology so I tried it out.
Here is our WWS report from last night. This was my first attempt at a demo build, so I would appreciate any advice.
One error on the WWS I can point out already, is that WWS gave me credit for both myself and Mygnomedude's doomguards.
Thank you for your help!

The amount of dmg DS ticks for is dependent on all the Affliction effects currently on the target, including those from other Warlocks. Meaning, when their dots fall off it will affect your DS ticks. Also, take notice of any dmg procs/buffs that might be wearing off between ticks.

Don't use a Doomguard when you're that deep in Demonology. They don't get the benefit of your talents deep in that tree. Leave the Felguard out.

Thank you I did not know that the buffs were that big of difference. When I was thinking about whether to do it or not, I looked at past examples of doomguard DPS when I was affliction. It usually runs around ~1400 dps I think? While I found the felguard was running around 1200 dps.
I guess I forgot about Master Demonologist and other such buffs.

I wrote a small DoT Uptimer application hosted on Google Apps that takes an Affliction warlock's WWS parse for a single fight, like Patchwerk, and does some crude analysis of DoT uptimes. I don't want to derail this thread, so maybe send feedback by PM.

Are there some points i could improve? Anything I could do better?

I had a much better go at patchwerk this week in another pug...although i had no spriest/boomkin hit buff. i had to make up for it by losing my 2 set bonus going from valorous gloves -> gloves of grandeur with +hit food just barely capped my shadowbolts :-/
Wow Web Stats
6307 dps using this build Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft
my dot uptimes were:corr 96.86
UA 88.79
CoA 90.58
Immo 88.79
SL 90.13 Any critiques would be awesome because ive seen a lot better. also i used a haste pot @ around 25% instead of wild magic...more of a habit but i havent found any calculations comparing the two (would also help).
Edit:
one thing thats been bugging me is ive just started messing with wow meter and it seems theres a 100-200dps difference between the two although the dmg is all the same. which of these two is the more accurate?

6307 is actually really good considering the fight lasted for almost 4 minutes. If you've seen a lot better than that, my guess is they've been sub-3-minute kills.
Dot uptimes are quite good, the only potential for improvement I can see is your amount of drain soul ticks. You had 12 there - I can usually fit in 12 as well, but our kills tend to take around 2:45.

Anyone else thinking this is a little miss leading in general with the time it takes a guild to go from 25%>0. Like the above qoute where he got 12 DS ticks and in my 3:17 i got 14.It isn't that I don't know how to play or even that I forgot when to use it. I had 90% dot uptime on everything and I consider myself good with keeping track of DS ticks. But isn't there some possibility that even on a shorter fight the time saved on the boss is the pre BL time? Like your guild kills patch faster in the 100%>25% faster then my guild but when BL and 25%>0 we are closely even with each other?

Of course there are tons of variables here and it's difficult to say anything on a general basis. I would never have commented on your 14 DS ticks in a 3:17 fight compared to my 12 in a 2:45 fight - the fight I was commenting on had 12 in a 3:48 fight, which is a huge difference.
Assuming a similar raid makeup and BL being popped around 30%, there's no reason to believe that all the difference between a 2:45 fight and a 3:48 fight lie in the first 75% of the boss's health.

oh, i forgot to get food buff...but it couldn't give those 300 dps for me to hit 6k.

When reviewing my last Patchwerk kill, does every time I see "Patchwerk is afflicted by Haunt." mean that I let my Haunt fall off? I am the only warlock in the raid, so all the Haunt spells belong to me.

Technically- yes. But:
20:59'55.217 Patchwerk's Haunt is refreshed.
21:00'07.158 Patchwerk is afflicted by Haunt.
If you look at this, theres actually slightly less than 12 seconds in between those 2 haunts. This is probably the result of lag, and the real difference between the 2 might have actually existed. That is not to say that you refreshed haunt too late here, but more so that you were extremely close to refreshing it at the perfect time.
It is 'good' for haunt to be refreshed 0.1 second late, when the alternative is to refresh it 1.4 seconds early.
When it's 0.75s after vs 0.75s before- then yes it's probably better to refresh haunt 0.75s before. But seeing "Patchwerk is afflicted by haunt" really is not fundamentally 'wrong'.
