Weapon Enchants?

Anyone done any testing on which is better?

I was looking at either Mighty Spell Power or Black Magic.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It's been tested and pretty much proven that Black Magic is crap, considering the cost. +63 spell power scales much better and affects your entire arsenal.

That's what I was thinking, especially since I'm a demo log with demonic pact, I think the spell power is better but another lock in my raid last night was trying to encourage me to get Black Magic so I wanted to find out if there was something about it I was missing.

Do you have any numbers to show why its crap?

Thanks. I'm not affliction so I tend to ignore threads made for just that spec (same for destro). I'll have to change that habit.

Given the prioritization of stats (Spell Hit > Spell Power > Haste > Crit > Spirit) discussed elsewhere in the forums, would that also imply that the Spellstone is always > Firestone for temporary enchants, regardless of spec?

Good question, but ultimately, I would guess its based on your build...
I'm 0/41/30 and incinerate spam...so I've been using a firestone... I take full advantage of the +dmg from direct spells and +crit...whereas the spellstone with +periodic dmg is not going to benefit me as much..

Your best answer is to look at WWS or recount. If more than 50% of your damage comes from DoTs you should use a Spellstone. If more than 50% comes from direct damage then use a Firestone.

Can anyone run math to be sure? Spellstone is 2.22% haste with 2/2 Master Conjurer which looks very competitive with ~1.4% crit and 1% direct damage.

This advice overlooks the whole point of the question being asked: Haste is significantly more valuable than crit. Yes, you need to calculate exactly how much DPS you're getting from each type of damage, but you also need to calculate how much DPS you're expecting to gain from each point of crit and haste.

There's no way to get a general answer with just math for this particular question, since it combines relative and absolute DPS increases, so it will depend entirely on your current gear. For my gear and spec, running a simple CoA/Immo/Incin rotation, Simulationcraft shows 100 DPS for Firestone and 89.5 DPS for Spellstone.

The value of haste becomes discreet in this rotation as well to a certain degree, because you can only cast whole numbers of incinerates within a given immolate duration. There will be a level for each person (and it will slightly differ due to lag) where getting the extra 78 haste from a spellstone would actually lessen potential immolate uptime (or force you to "over life-tap"), which would be bad.

If I have time I:ll edit this post later with some real illustrations to show what I mean.

Use Lleulier's spreadsheet to determine which is a bigger DPS increase for you.
