Creative Demonic Circle Uses

I have seen quite a few people ask about some of its use in PvE and PvP, and have seen quite a few of you add some good tips. Figure we'll get a compilation post going where we can keep some of the more widely known ways to use this spell. Generally most of the PvE uses are nice ways to minimize running around so that you have more time available to refresh dots and things.

I'll start with some of the things that I have done so far, post yours and I'll fill them in.

Naxx
  • Grobbulus - Using it to move you away from the raid to drop the poison clouds.
  • Thaddius - Use it to teleport to the appropriate charge camp.
  • Four Horsemen - Especially nice on 10 if you are Warlock tanking, using it to switch to another corner of the room is nice.
  • Gothik - You can place it right where the door in the middle of the room closes. You can then teleport there and assist either side.
  • Heigan - I place it on the platform so I can teleport back up there.
  • Loatheb - I place it in the 'clump' that we all stand in to dps. That way after we go to get a spore I can return faster.
  • Sapphiron - Using it to help you dodge Blizzard a bit easier.

Sartharion
  • Placing it at one of the gaps in the fire wall helps make dodging the wall a bit easier.

Malygos
  • You are able to exit the Vortex and teleport back to the ground and continuing to DPS while your raid is flying in the air above you. (Watch Threat)

VoA

For Arena:

Seeing as meleedps at the moment burst an affliction warlock down often in a matter of max 1-2 seconds, Demonic Circle can, used correctly, be an awesome way to get those dots in. Place it when you know that battle is going to start and asap when seeing for example a rogue, DK or feral, put up a curse of exhaustion, use Howl of Terror and blink back. If they trinket, you should hopefully have enough time to get a fear in, which puts another kite up on them. By now you should have all the dots possible up including haunt and so far I have yet to see anyone without cloak of shadows / bubble / ice block / magic shield survive a full dot-up. If they don't trinket out of Howl of Terror, they're already fully-dotted.

This should be a nice way to firstly survive, but also enforce mages / rogues / dk's / palas to pop their cooldowns.

I used it for kiting the zombies at Gluth as an affliction lock using Siphon Life/CoA/Corruption. Had a portal placed in the center of the room so I could run the zombies to a corner and then use teleport to gain distance again.

The portal is funky for kiting in general.

On Sartharion I find it more useful to stand such that I'm safe if wave comes from behind me. I then place the portal on the other side of the island so that I can port through the wave once it's passed over my portal's location from my front. This way I'm only wasting the port GCD and can move back to my original spot during the GCD of instants.

Anub'rekhan - to avoid impale entirely or just fall damage in the worst case.
Grand Widow - to avoid rain of fire
Maexxna - to get back quickly after getting webbed
Kel'thuzad - moving for detonate mana & shadow fissures

Dont forget to refresh demonic circle on long fights like sartharion with drakes.

On Thaddius our server had insane lag so when I jumped off the platform it was the 2nd time in the past 3 years I actually didn't make it. I just ported back up and tried it again lol

I like that Anub'Rhekan idea. Makes getting back on the floor faster lol

Any BG: place your circle where the buffs (speed/heal/enrage) spawn.

WSG: Take flag, port up to the second floor. Attackers in the flag room will have a harder time catching up.

Any BG or Arena: Place circle on high ground and jump to a lower tier to join the battle. Nuke/DoT until you take some heat, then retreat to the higher tier. The inverse also works, but not as well, as attackers can jump down to get to you. Examples: bridge in Blade's Edge Arena, towers in AV, graveyard/base in WSG, lower ramp around the EotS flag spawn, below the path leading to Dun Baldar in AV. Behind walls or on the gun turrent perches in SotA/Wintergrasp.

EotS: Fighting tends to be heaviest at the flag and at the base you are heading to. Leave your circle just out of the fighting zone at the flag spawn or at the flag return to avoid trouble.

Any BG: Teleport inside of buildings to confuse your enemy.

AB: Teleport underwater when you want to GTFO. Probably easiest to set up when defending. Putting your circle on top of the Mine roof is an especially effective escape, and put it near the edge at Lumber Mill to avoid getting knocked off.

___________________________

I don't think it would be smart to teleport somewhere to drop your poison during Grobbulus, as you don't really know where it would be best to drop it when you set your circle. It would be more effective to run to a corner to drop your poison and teleport back to continue DPSing.

Four Horseman: Demonic Circle where the chest spawns to ninja your badge before everyone gets there and takes forever

Depending on what your off-tank is doing, this can be very bad. If you ever get targeted while standing outside his room (perhaps due to being 2nd on threat when your tank has his aggro dropped) you will evade-heal Archavon. Usually not an issue if you stay below your alternate tank in threat.

I use it for Noth's Blink, im usually the one that gets aggro after it because of my dots. Sometimes the tank can be slow on picking him up so i'm always at max range and when he blinks and comes running for me i port even further away. Its not that big of a problem, just needed to do it once but still it can be a solution for some.

Howcome I didn't think of that. Using the gaps in the flame walls still requires some running, this doesnt. /applaud

Not sure what the big difference is. Using the gaps you need to run back to the other gap each time you teleport. Using the port-through-wave method you also need to run back to the other spot after each teleport. I suppose the run can be a bit shorter in the second case, though.

Yeah, it saves running. The flame wave is hardly a few ingame feet wide as opposed to the space between the gaps being in 20'ish yards.

On Grobbulus I tend to set portal to return from placing clouds in later phase - just to use it more than once.

On Gluth I actually managed to tp into the poison pipe, unfortunately few secs after I got aggro and gluth tp'ed me back, right in before him. More experimentation needed.

If you are still wiping on patchwerk, portal near slime river can make hellfire suicide trivial, same with evade on Razuvious

Noth is immune to dots when ported up. They still tick but deal no dmg. It's probably the melee aggro range that (110% < 130%) that makes him chase you. Just stay away from the place he comes back to.

I prefer dropping my circle at thaddius between the groups, so I have a fast way to escape if I'm not paying attention to the charges. This has saved me at least once. Dropping it into one of the camps isn't that great, since you'd want to tap while running anyway.

i was with a pug group where the priests had problems with razuvius. i placed it 40 yards away in direction to the stairs.

since i was at top of the aggro list razuvius was going after me when the priests fucked up .. i then used the teleport to get away and run up to reset the encounter.. and when i was upstairs i could teleport down again ,)

I did not mean his "teleport up to balcony" spell, He sometimes casts Blink and totally resets aggro, this only applies to 25 man.

On Sartharion I actually place mine right up against him since it's easier for me to run back to the ranged position than it is to run forward.

AKA: Sememe (Alliance Paladin: Eitrigg)

WSG: Offensively, you can use it to get the enemy's flag out of their flag room (yes, I know someone mentioned it, but it's so awesomely fun we can do it again). Either in the tunnel, on the roof or on the balcony, you can grab the flag, ninja-port and break all semblance of LoS.

Defensively though, is where it really starts to shine. You have the enemy flag, you're in your base. You plant the circle up front on the roof, careful to avoid LoS from the balcony, or on the ground, but as much in the middle as you can - this might be easier for alliance now that I think about it. If placed properly, you can port to it from the ground level in the flagroom, the balcony ramp, the balcony, from behind the big thing up in the middle of the roof and so on and so forth. Basically, you've got all the fun parts of the base covered. Just wait for incomings on top of the roof, and when they come, just choose depending on what's coming and what you have with you. Jump down, run behind the pillar, jump down and LoS them by running out towards the ramp(!)... Hours of fun until they start parking rogues on top of your circle. On the bright side, a rogue hovering at your circle is a rogue not beating you up.

We might not be the best option for crossing the midfield, but we make awesome fetchers for a druid in one end and for hide and seek in the other.

Naxx: I used it on Heigan to get to the dance starting position. Saves you a second or two.

(Misc. use: Getting up from the Underbelly in Dalaran while doing, say, Infused Mushroom Loaf)

Gluth:
  • Drop it on the pipe leading to green pipe before Gluth just in case you fall.
  • If you're kiting Zombie Chow, use it to teleport across the room to gain distance.
Thaddius:
  • Drop it on the ledge before dropping down to Thaddius just in case you miss.

On Thaddius dropping it on the platform before the jump serves two purposes. If I miss the jump (haven't yet, but you never know), I can port back up. And it lets me port back up after the kill to avoid getting my butt blown apart by everyone that wants to spread the love while waiting for the charges to wear off.

If you can find no other use for it on an encounter, can always place it right behind the door that closes or far enough back to kite the boss to the entrance...save a few gold without playing with hellfire.

Not that much CC is needed in the heroics, but I've also found it useful for the rare cases a group wanted me to fear in a highly populated area of an instance. Just place the circle in a room that's already cleared behind you. Then grab aggro on your target with some damage, port back and fear the mob in the cleared out room. It's about our only option since they removed fear juggling.

Strands/Wintergrasp, it's really useful to be able to teleport behind the wall. Typically a melee will try to rip you, and being able to teleport away is very useful.

Warsong Gulch - I've found it incredibly useful to place a Demonic Circle exactly on top of our flag. Then when i have the flag i try to go to the Top level, as soon as the flag as ready to be captured it's just a matter of pressing Teleport.

Sartharion - I place it on the opposite segment that I'm standing on, so that if i wasn't paying attention i can easily save my self.

Maexxna - I place the circle either on the raid for quick returns after Web Wrap, or Near the Web Wrap location so i can quickly save someone.

The Oculus
- Using this on the 3rd boss is handy, Makes it even more incredibly easy.
