For Freya in 10 man, because I don't run with a mage, and modified my secondary 0/13/58 spec to have shadowfury (since I primary raid as haunt), we group up on top of Freya to deal with Detonating lashers and when it's time to AOE, the whole raid runs away from the mobs when they get low so that no one gets blown up on in the same direction, and to keep the lashers still, I typically port away from Freya to the run spot, and shadowfury the mobs while AOE finishes it.
It's my 10 man's "frost nova", the 4 seconds saved from running is how we do that wave with absolute ease.
I know in Mimiron you can reset the fight in phase one, however is it still possible to do so in phase three or four? I am usually tanking the Ariel in phase three; and would be useful if something goes wrong to be able to reset the fight.
Ancillary to that I personally place the portal right in the center next to either side of Mimiron. This allows me to port in and run behind him during the laser barrrage.
Ignis: I put a circle on the ground away from the tank to avoid scorches. After Ignis uses Flame Jets I teleport down to immediately continue dpsing. No waiting for rise/fall.
Is it just me or does this use a GCD? When I tried it people were landing and casting about the same I was actually able to start casting again.
Now I use to port back after being put into slag pot, now that's more useful to me because I can typically time a conflag or lifetap during flame jets.
I would throw out there for discussion on Hodir, find your starlight and put it down. It allows quick porting back if you get Icicle on that spot, and to get back to that spot asap after flash freeze.
When I have ever fought Archavon, I drop my DC catty-corner to where I want to DPS. I place it far enough away from the area I am standing to escape from clouds, stalactites, but not directly near anyone else in case I were to be charged randomly.
For example, if I am fighting at either side of the stairs, I will place the circle just in front of the small alcoves on the left and right side of the room. In theory, I just keep the DC along the walls opposite the stairs. Of course this tactic is dependent on good tanks in the group, and threat is being managed properly and Archavon is kept in the center of the room as much as possible.
Port no longer resets the encounter on Iron Council. We had three locks try it at different times. The port was placed right outside the door and then the boss was engaged. One fusion punch got through, and a wipe was called. We ran and teleported out of the room and started to run down the hallway and still died.

The damage aura will still kill you if he's aggro'd on people in the room. During a failed hard mode wipe, I hit the non-focus targets with a few dots and ported out. Once they tried to pass the threshold, they reset.

I can back this up. You have to cause one of the council to leave the room to reset the boss, most Ulduar bosses that can be dragged out of their room reset upon doing so - look at Ignis, if they stop the council portal reset they'll give ignis a door. Porting out to reset is fine, especially for Steelbreaker, but everyone above you on threat is still going to die, and they should stop DPSing as soon as a wipe is called to avoid pulling him off you.
Since the VoA section is empty, I'll contribute a completely situational use for the Demonic Circle, which is to teleport away from the Lightning Nova on Emalon. I have had a wide variety of both pugs and guild runs, and the positioning is different in every group. I've had times when I couldn't reach the adds, or where I was simply cornered into the Lightning Nova. Demonic Circle gave me the ability to port out, or even LoS the nova. (Although you can't - I believe - LoS the explosion that comes when you let an add stack up 10 charges.)
When doing the pull on Auraiya, if there is no shaman to drop a totem for contact agro, I'll drop a circle around the corner of the stairs, stand at max distance, and fire a low yield chaos bolt or other spell that requires travel time. Port back and remain los until your tanks have a chance to grab her and her initial two cats.
In some situations I've sent out an imp to be killed to begin the pull as well before teleporting, in lieu of throwing a spell.
I couldn't get the portal to work on Vezax anymore last night.
Tested about 5 different locations and placing before and in fight.
I can confirm this was happening in a 10 man last night, also tried placing before and after combat. The circle I placed before combat was working before we engaged Vezax, so it wasn't terrain bugged.
The portal was working fine for me on General Vezax last night at around 10pm EU server time. I always make sure to place it on flat, high ground after entering combat, and I always put it in pretty much the same place, directly in front of where the boss is looking before you engage him at a distance of 50 yards or so.
It was working fine for me on General last night. You just have to make sure that you lay it down after he is engaged. For some reason any Demonic Circles laid down before the fight starts don't work after he is engaged.
Another funny use for the demonic circle in warsong: take the fastest way to get to the flag on ur mount, put the circle down 20 m after entering on "1. floor", jump down - get the flag and jump back up... a "rescue" team should be waiting near the circle.

There is no reason to even be in range of Emalon's Nova to begin with, let alone setting up a Demonic Portal to get out of it. I am sure it's safe to say that regardless of the raid's positioning (guild or pug), you can dps both of them without having to turn yourself by creating a 90 degree angle with yourself, Emalon and the adds.
I think the reason behind nothing for VOA is because you can just sit in one spot and nuke everything without ever having to move.
I used to cast this when I found myself to be at enough yards from the boss to do a perfect soul fire weaving, in order to start weaving as soon as the boss hit 35% (for which I also set a sound warning in MikScrollingBattleText).
And yes, I can confirm that it still works at Vezax, granted that it has been casted after the pull.
i strive to find a use for demonic circle. I didnt go through all seven pages of the post, so im not sure if im missing key things/repeating information. sorry if i am.
flame leviathan: only vaguely useful, but can set you up with a place to meet your chopper (i get launched).
ignis: i play the role of backup for the shadowpriests. demonic circle is put in place so i can shatter the adds without having to stand always in range.
razorscale: i use it to teleport to the harpoons, as i click them for my guild
deconstructor: close to useless on normal, immensely helpful on hardmode. couple of ways to do this, put it in the middle to teleport you back after running out, or to exactly where you want to go for light bombs so its always at the correct range for the tank taunt
iron council: placing it outside the room can save your entire raid from a wipe. when a wipe is called, teleport out and run down the hall. When one of the guys chases you, it will reset the right
kolagarn: gets me across the room from eyebeams without wasting time running
auriya gets me back in front of the boss after fears
thorim gets me quickly out of the way of the lightning lines (and blizzard on hard mode)
hodir gets me across the room for a variety of reasons, whether chasing useful buffs or a flash freeze
freya gets me across the room to those pesky hard to reach trees, and away from acorns during phase 2
mimiron gets me away from inconvenient bomb bots when im tanking, and makes me run less during spinning up (careful not to range your healers)
vezax: gets me back into a shadowcrash if i screw it up, or across the room to saronite vapors, or out of the raid for life drain
yogg: gets you away from clouds back to the front of the room, and around the head for phase 2 and the beginning of 3.
Sifting through this thread, I noticed some general comments about certain Ulduar bosses, but little to no specifics especially regarding hard modes, so I figure I will post a few here. The below ideas are mostly for hard modes, but some can be used on normal modes as well.
Freya: As a destruction lock I am often made the kiter for the Snaplasher. It is easy to maintain aggro with quick casts and jump/spin conflags. Usually, when the trio is about to spawn, I will toss my portal on the ground where I am standing and begin to kite the Snaplasher away from me. I then can stand still and let it get close while I DPS and generate lots of threat, and quickly port back to my original position (far away from where the Snaplasher will be standing by then).
Thorim: I believe your best bet is to place your portal in the spot where you are assigned to stand with your group. This way, when running away from a lightning charge, if you get caught in a Blizzard or by Sif's frost nova you can still safely port back after the charge. This will also get you back into position very quickly after the charge, which is particularly important in hard mode when you need to avoid chaining lightning as much as possible.
Also note that if you get Frost Nova'd by Sif right after a lightning charge appears, you can cast teleport to break the snare and then safely run out. Although it will not be up when you need to get back to your spot, it is good for making sure you do not die to the charge if you are not dispelled in time.
Vezax: This one is particularly important, since there seem to be some mix-ups in this thread about how to use it here. On hard mode, you will usually have Vezax stationary and one ranged group of 8-10 people. At the beginning of the fight I face AWAY from Vezax, and as soon as I enter combat place the portal down (it will not work if you do it pre-combat). Move into the ranged group and begin DPS. Do not use Teleport for Shadow Crash;, just strafe sideways for those. Save it for Mark of the Faceless. When Mark of the Faceless hits you, if you are fast (and use a stopcasting macro, like you should be), you will be able to port out before it even ticks once. Note: Facing the portal AWAY from Vezax is important so that you can hold down your Run key as you port to get further away from the group. This is imperative in case your ranged group begins to drift backward and your portal becomes in range of them, you will be running further away from them immediately after you port.
Also, if you teleport out and are standing in the back and you get a shadow crash on you, use it as an opportunity to refresh your demonic circle, as the reduction in mana will help out a lot, since Demonic Circle costs nearly 600 mana to cast, and you will need to refresh it at least once to keep it up throughout the entire fight. If this does happen to you, be sure to call out in vent to the other warlocks in raid to refresh their portals as well while the crash is still down back there. Avoiding Mark of the Faceless ticks is extremely crucial to getting this hard mode down.
Any Demonic Circle tips for Coliseum from those who played some of the encounters at PTR? I took a look at the abilities of Northrend Beasts and I guess the obvious use is at least to dodge Icehowl's Ferious Butt. How about on other beasts?
On the new 5-man dungeon:
In P2 on the Black Knight: port out after AE'ing the adds as the BK usually cast a ground AE when/shortly after the adds die.
I don't have a screenshot of it but if you are on the horde side go into dalaran and fly to the alliance side, then land behind the benches across from the portals. Set it down there and you can go in and out at will for the duration of it.
Also on hieghn the unclean use it to get back to dpsing position faster.
